  1. Depending on the display settings you choose on the 62s, the road lines vs Topo lines can be difficult to distinguish. An example would be: Land cover = on, looking at a road in National Forest. The National Forest land cover will show dark green, the TOPO lines red/brown, the secondary roads gray. That combo makes it difficult to see the gray secondary roads on the 62s, the 60csx is much better under those conditions.
  2. The email came through Geocaching Web site. I responded to it. I should have followed the link to respond, my mistake. Is your offer only for the 62s GPSr and not the 12v power cord and Zagg screen saver??? I'd like to sale 62s + 12v cord + screen saver all together. Not interested in selling 62s alone for $300.........$350+ shipping for 62s + 12v power cord + screen saver. Thank you for your interest.
  3. I answered your email as soon as I received it. Received it 2/1/2011 7:24am, sent mail 2/1/2011 9:16am....... Sorry you did not receive email. $350 for 62s + garmin 12v power cord + zagg screen saver.......$50 - $75 savings over new. Thanks for looking.
  4. Lowered price to $350...... Garmin cord is about $29 + $10 for the zagg screen saver. This should be about $50-$75 less than new. Thanks for looking
  5. Garmin 62s Garmin auto power cord zagg screen saver As new, I bought it when they first came out. Only used a few times, just like my 60csx better. $365, buyer pays shipping.
  6. Also I had to be in Mass Storage mode to receive any waypoints in the GPSr. If I left the GPSr out of Mass Storage, Mapsource would send the waypoints and say they where sent OK. But nothing would be on the GPSr. I don't have Basecamp yet. Can you save the Basecamp files on your computer like you can in Mapsource? If you can, save the file then drag & drop to your microsd card.
  7. Tried other things. Sent a waypoint from Mapsource to the L: drive (microsd). It went into the GPX folder I created in the post above. The file came in as userdata.gpx. So I put the my gpx file back in L:\garmin\gpx and it showed up along with the userdata.gpx file. Next I edited the L:\garmin\gpx to read L:\garmin. That's the original file path. I then transfered waypoints from mapsource to the microsd card (L: drive). They showed up in waypoint manager. So I transfered more waypoints to the L: drive. These showed up in waypoint manager, but it deleted my last waypoints. So all this seems like if you transfer you waypoints from mapsouce to your microsd card it works, but, if you do it the second time it'll delete your first transfer. It writes a new userdata.gpx file each time you transfer from mapsource. OK the last thing I'm doing. I added the gpx file back on the L: drive (microsd), address L:\garmin\GPX I added 2 waypoints (drag & drop) then I sent 2 more through mapsource. Ended up with 4 waypoints, 3 files -- test1.gpx, test2.gpx and userdata.gpx. Sent 2 more waypoints through mapsource, ended up with 4 waypoints, 3 files --- test1.gpx, test2. gpx and userdata.gpx. the userdata.gpx overwrote the older userdata.gpx. I think what this wordy post boils down to. Make a file on your microsd card named L:\garmin\gpx. drag and drop your waypoint files into it or transfer from mapsouce your waypoints knowing it's going to overwrite the userdata.gpx file each time. But it'll keep the drag & drop waypoints. Your mileage my vary.
  8. He is what I tried. Saved a waypoint in mapsource as a GPX file. I put the file in the H:\Garmin\GPX, that's is where the waypoints are stored on the 62s. It show up in waypoint manager as it should. I then moved it to the micro sd card, L: drive on my computer. Did not show. Then moved to L:\garmin file. Did not show. Then I tried it in the L:\garmin\userdata. Did not show. I then added a file named GPX under L:\garmin. The address is L:\garmin\GPX. It showed up in waypoint manager. Also the waypoint files in the H:\Garmin\GPX showed up in waypoint manager. So yes you can add waypoints to the micro SD card. The drive letters, H:\ and L:\ will probably be different on your computer.
  9. Post # 215 has lots of info. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...3992&st=200 The colors they use are harder to see. Really the wrong colors for the topo maps. Should have gray contour lines red roads and blue water. At least the water is blue. The red/brown contour lines overpower the roads. I e-mailed Garmin hoping to hear back soon. Turn off DEM shading, turn off land cover. Helps a bunch.
  10. You would want this for PLLS display: LINK Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try.
  11. How are the Township Range and sections displayed on the maps??? Do they show section lines similar to a USGS quad with the section number in the middle of the section??? I tried to find map views on the Garmin site but didn't see anything very detailed. Thanks.
  12. Thanks, I missed looking at the north central DVD. Great to hear I can load on both my GPSr's. I was torn between loading on the 60csx or 62s.
  13. Can the DVD 24K maps be viewed in Mapsource??? I also see some are not available on DVD. Hope Idaho and Montana come out on DVD.
  14. The zagg on the 60csx does not fit over the entire black area, it's just a little shy on width and height. The bottom of the zagg that goes around the in and out buttons will need a slight trim. That area has a different shape on the 62s. The flat part of the viewing screen on the 60csx is 1.73" wide at mid screen. The flat area of the viewing screen on the 62s is 1.70" wide at mid screen. The width of the area inside the black "band" on the 60csx is 1.43" The width of the area inside the black "band" on the 62s is 1.41" The height if the area inside the black "band" on the 60csx is 2.125" The height if the area inside the black "band" on the 62ss is 2.100" The zagg for the 60csx will fit the width of the 62s very well. The height of the zagg for the 60csx is 2.90". On the 62s you only need 2.80" of height. The top of the 62s has more of a curve to it (smaller radius), might need to trim the 60 zagg a bit on top. And I did not get this backwards. The size of the viewing screen is WIDER and TALLER on the 60csx. With both GPSr's turned on and on the "Satellites Page", the width and height of the area lit up is larger on the 60csx............. Anyway I measure it the 60csx has a larger screen and viewing area. I know this is against published data, but I'm setting here with a dial caliper under a bright light........
  15. Far what it's worth, my 62s will get a lock on the satellites in my basement and the my 60csx will not. The 62s also gets a lock on the satellites faster than my 60csx when outside. Thanks for all the tips. I upgraded to 2.40, it fixed the data entry field. Turning off land cover and dem helped a lot. I still like the colors of the contours and roads used on the 60csx better. I was going to send it back, but I think I'll keep it, squeaks and all!!
  16. I have a 60csx and a 62s. I have a zagg on the 60csx, looks close enough to the 62s. I ordered one to fit a 60 series last week, should be here end of this week. I'll post on the fit when I receive it. From holding both side by side I'll have to trim a bit off the bottom of the 60csx screen saver.
  17. Thanks again, Good idea using Profiles. I'm going to try this for a couple more days. Turning the DEM and Land cover off makes a big difference inside the house.
  18. You can remove the green background... Menu > Menu > Setup > Map > Advanced Map Setup > Zoom Levels > Land Cover and set it to Off. Thanks, that does help. I'll take it out today and try it with the land cover turned off.
  19. That's interesting. I have the 62st and see different colors with the built-in 100K topo than what you described on your 62s. On my st, the contour lines are brown and black (every third line is black, and the brown lines don't show up when zoomed out to a certain point.) The roads are grey, and the water blue. The colors are a bit different in BaseCamp, most notably the contour lines, which I believe were light grey. The biggest "problem" with the colors on the 62st, however, is that the DEM shading is much darker than it needs to be, and makes it hard to see trails when they're on the shaded side of mountains. I was in a steep area, and it was very difficult to see the dashed grey trail due to the shading, as well as to the very dark topo lines. This is not a problem in Basecamp, where the shading is much lighter (but still easily seen), and the topo lines are light grey. Even if they keep the dark topo lines, I really hope they update the colors so that the DEM shading is lighter. It is simply much darker than necessary at the moment. Larry The colors on my 62s could very well be the same as yours. I called the roads blue, but when I zoom in, they indeed look grey. The contour lines could also be brown. I'm using an older set of eyes to view my screen with. The shading used to show National Forest land causes the same viewing problems as the DEM shading. And the TOPO lines are much too dark.
  20. Thanks for the link, not sure I want to go that route. Garmin must choose the colors of the roads and contour lines displayed in the handheld unit. The 62s road and contour line colors are closer to the Mapsource colors. The 60csx road and contour line colors show up different than Mapsource.
  21. Uh, you own the darned thing, which means you're more of an "expert" on it than most everyone else here. Just poke around in the menus. I'm sure it's not too hard to see what's under the "display" menu and if there's anyway to display the background/theme colors as on the 60CSx... Wasn't lookin to change the background/theme colors. Was asking if it was possible to change the colors of the roads and contour lines on the maps. I should have worded my question better. Yes I did check out the display menu.
  22. I found this bug. On my 62s I have UTM as the position format. When I hit Find/Coordinates and then on the enter location screen the last 2 digits of the Northing coordinate is off the screen. Anyone else have this? Also, I have some of Topo 100K loaded on my 62s, the contour lines show up red, the roads light blue, the water features blue. The same maps on my 60Csx, the contour lines show up light gray, the roads red, the water features blue. Now today I was in the Panhandle National Forest using both my 60csx and 62s. The background shows up green when in the National Forest. On the 60csx it's a lighter shade than the 62s. Now the bad news. Very very difficult to read the 62s in the shade without the backlight on bright. Very hard to see the roads with the contour lines being so dark. The 60csx is very easy to see without the backlight on. I think the main problem is the colors they chose to use on the 62s. It's unfortunate, because I like the new features on the 62s, but I'm going to return mine. I'm using Mapsource Ver. 6.13.6 Is there a way to change the display colors of the roads and contour lines on the GPSr or in Mapsource before the maps are loaded???
  23. On my 62s I have UTM as the position format. When I hit Find/Coordinates and then on the enter location screen the last 2 digits of the Northing coordinate is off the screen. Anyone else have this?
  24. I have done this on a couple of developments. It worked very well. We developed a 300 acre property. The lot size had to be a minimum of 5ac. The terrain was much as you describe. Our goal was to identify the building sites, then plot out a minimum of 5ac. lot around the building site. Also lay out the roads. We understood the limitations with consumer grade GPSr. When finished we gave the "map" to a surveyor to perform the actual survey. Or GPS lines and waypoints came out closer than we had hoped for. This is the method used. I took a waypoint of the property corners, the building sites, and made a track for the roads. I used UTM's. I used AutoCad next. Starting with a blank "paper" I entered in the coordinates for the corners using the UTM's as x/y. I then took an aerial photo of the property, imported it into Autocad (scaled correctly) and used it as an overlay to check the boundaries and physical features. Next I took my track files and imported those into a text file. With the tracks in text format I could write a script file to import my tracks into AutoCad. This worked very well. I also took a .jpg of the plat map and made an overlay with it much the same way I did with the Aerial photo. Now with the info in AutoCad I drew my lot lines and property corners. In AutoCad you are able to measure you lot sizes and such. After getting lines and property corners where I thought they needed to be. I exported the lot corner positions to a text file. From there I put the property corners back into Garmin format and set out to mark property corners. I drove lathes at the "suggested" property corners. Then gave the AutoCad "map" to the surveyor. I also had the distances and bearings of the lot lines on the "map". We are very happy with the results. And have used this method on several other projects. The Software used. Garmin Mapsource AutoCad 2000 Microsoft Excel Notepad Photoshop I used excel to change the Garmin format as needed. I'm sure there are better ways to do this, I'm just a excel geek. I used Photoshop to view and manage my .jpg and such. Hope this answers your question. Doug
