  1. There is a GeoArt out in Ohio called the Doxie GeoArt. It consists of 86 waypoints. I have the corrected coordinates for all and a gpx file of it. Is there any online mapper or in general anyway to import this gpx file to a program that will optimize my driving route for it?
  2. I own a Garmin Montana 680t. I've loaded about 2500 caches onto it via creating PQ's on the GC website, loading those into Garmin's Basecamp program on my MacBook Pro. I've done the same method for years with my old Montana 650 that unfortunately died and I didn't want to invest the $ to repair, but rather upgrade. I've noticed that when I scroll thru the list of geocaches on the unit the device freezes after maybe 20-30 scrolls with either the down arrow or finger flicks (it is a touch screen model). The whole unit becomes inoperable and the only way to shut it down is to remove the battery and replace and boot up. Garmin replaced the unit with a new one after I complained and it does the same thing. I called them to ask for insight and all I get is that it maybe a GPX file that is corrupt. They asked me to zip the files I recently uploaded and email it to them, but beyond that they have no solution. Sounds like they are passing the buck. They also stated to use Garmin Express to upload the caches instead. I find if I do that I get too much extraneous data in addition to the cache icons on the map--parking coords and blue flags among them which make for a cluttered map. Anyone else having this problem? 3. I, for one, absolutely hate the look and feel of the new maps as they load on my computer. This really sucks. I'd pay up to $100 a year for better google maps. Geocaching just became harder and less fun when you cant use decent maps to see anything. Fix it. Eyedoc
  4. There is a setting on the GPS: When you turn it on, click the setup icon (the wrench/screwdriver), click system, click interface, click garmin spanner. Now, every time you use the USB cord and plug it in to the computer, and turn on the unit, it will ask you if you want to go into Mass Storage mode, click yes if you do. No i haven't gotten help yet, but I will try Garmin again tomorrow and hope for a tech that knows what they are doing. I have since found out, however, from a youtube video covering this unit, and from a geocacher friend who also has the unit it is possible to do what we want. My tech didn't know that. Andrew
  5. I have a new Montana 650. I was on geocaching.com and trying to load a cache here and a cache there. That is singly, and not part of a PQ. I was on a webpage of the particular cache, clicked send to my GPS (as I said, a Garmin Montana 650), and it opened the box, found my unit after 3 tries. Not sure why that happened, and I am not in MASS STORAGE MODE. I clicked the write button, and it says it saved successfully, but it did not. There is nothing there. I run on an iMac. Have used the exact same setup for my GPSMAP 60CSx, with no problems for years. I have the Garmin Communicator 3.0.1.0, and while I realize there is a new version of communicator 4.0.1, the geniuses at Garmin said GC.com doesn't support it yet. Something is fishy here. Garmin says the workaround is to put the device in Mass storage mode, and it will work singly, and it does, but I find that a pain in the rear. It doesn't need to be done for the GPSMAP 60CSx, why for the Montana. I think I got a tech who really didn't know his stuff. Any ideas anyone? Eyedoc
  6. Is it Groundspeak that got rid of the KML file or Google Earth that did??? And which database was being taxed by the use?? I am of of the 200 users that loved this feature and find it extremely frustrating as I can no longer plan effectively what areas I want to visit. BRING BACK KML!!!

    Travel Bug Maps

Is there any way to have the maps displayed when you look at travel bugs not so cluttered with the cache locations thay have been at? On regional maps where TB's have traveled a few tens or hundreds of miles locally it is hard to see where they have been because of the location tags. On world maps where TB's have traveled thousands of miles around the globe it is even harder to see locations because of size of the map. Is there a way to just include a number and then that number keys to a cache list on the side of the page??? Eyedoc
