  1. THANK YOU GUNNIGIRL I am using a Mac too with Firefox 1.5. This new map just does not work for me, BUT Thanks to Gunnigirl I can now see it in the printer friendly page. Whew!! Must be something with Macs. All is not lost!!! I hope they don't fix this too.
  2. I came to this forum to find out what was going on with the maps. THESE THINGS SUCK!!!! I can't make it do anything. All I see is a white square with a stupid pin in the middle. How do you get to see anything with these maps. If I leave the page and come back you can see the original map for just a second then it goes to this new map. So as not to mix words. These maps Suck!!!

  4. Many thanks for that link. It answered all my questions. Actually Keystone is my reviewer and I have been in contact with him about this cache. Now I know how the issue should proceed. I hate to wade blind into a situation. This was really helpful. THANKS
  5. That was a very helpful link but, before I wade into it, what happens if the owner is no longer avaliable? I want to adopt a cache that the owner has just disappeared. He has only placed one cache, has never found any and does not respond to any emails. The reviewer cannot seem to contact him either. I am thinking that a new cache with reference to the old name would be an easier route to go. I want to change the information on the cache page too. If I adopted it would I have access to the cache page to be able to change it? Thanks for the help with all the dumb questions.
  6. No phones, no people, no problems, out in the woods. Welcome to the better side of caching. Did I mention I hate MOST micros. There are some great Cachers in my area that do put out some GREAT micro caches. They make them easy to find so you do not disturb the area and they usually involve a good hike to a great area. That is the only ones I will go after anymore.
  7. I dont want to upset anyone here, but I think leaving a business card or a signature item (unless its cool) is a cop out to leaving something tradeable. Keychains that are "YOU" or an item some one might actually enjoy are cool, but I usually just sign the log anyways. Who wants to trade a fake business card? I mean if I found a cache that listed all this fun, cool, neat things in it for trading, and all I found were peoples GC "business cards" I would feel ripped off in a way cause I would bring something of equal fun, cool or neatness. Thats why I just sign the log. I enjoy the hunt more than the treasure anyways. But thats MHO!! Forgive me if I'm a little dense but I do not understand why you quoted my whole post. Is it that you think the money idea is worthless? If so I guess you are entitled to your opinion but I have gotten some great logs from people that have found these jars. BTW I usually don't take anything. Most of the stuff I find I wouldn't bother to put in another cache. I just live with it. It's fun no matter what you do trade or not.
  8. I have found that leaving money puts a smile on everyone's face. I'm not talking funny money or play money I am talking Genuine US Currency. I put the money in different size jars and label the jar as to what I think is in the jar. Usually $250 Nobody has given away my secret in a post and those that like the money just love it. I have had people as far away as Canada contact me about the money they got with my name on it. I have even sent jars of money to people that could not catch up with one. This had nothing to do with my caching name. My wife used to work for the US Treasury Dept. and they used to have many items stuffed with this money. As I got into Geocaching more and more I though of this idea as a signature item. Just a silly little fun thing to do for a signature. I have toyed with putting a TB on one or two Just to see how far my money could go. The pictured jar has a label that says $250 in Genuine ( Shredded ) US Currency and I have a number of other smaller jars that I put $100 in. It's kinda the gift for someone that has everything. "A Jar Full Of Money"
  9. Some people like to talk (er TYPE) and some people don't. I mainly lurk. It is fun to watch. I do get quite a laugh out of some posts. However I couldn't resist this post. I have been in the forum for over 3 years and wanted to up my posts to 34. Hope you don't mind. I only post when I have a good question, that hasn't been answered before and I try to only hide Caches that get people to a very unique place. Some people like numbers and some don't care about them. Different strokes for different folks. No matter what you like you should enjoy your day. Life is too short to be taken too seriously. You never know when you are going to get your OFF button pushed. Enjoy every day.
  10. Different strokes for different folk. Don't make me do what you don't want to. I choose to carry a gun most of the time. You choose to drive a car, I choose to carry a gun. As long as it is legal, in the area you live, who cares. Let's not even talk about burning the Flag.
  11. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE NUMBERS Its's about enjoying yourself. Just remember "IT'S NOT ABOUT THE NUMBERS RELAX, and enjoy where they take you
  12. Here is a page that rates different NiMH batteries. Top of the line was the Enigizer 2300 followed by the Powerex. Powerex have done extremely well for me. A GPS uses nothing compared to some Digital Cameras that this chart was developed for. http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM Have a look.
  13. This person may plan on keeping it. If I do this, I'll post a note that I traded it to him. I guess?? If he does place it in a Cache I understand how it will get out of my posession now. Thanks
  14. I have a Jeep Travel bug. I was about to send it on it's way when I had someone contact me and wants to trade Jeeps. My Questions is how do I log that he now has the travel bug. I do not want it to look like I have this Jeep Travel Bug forever. Is is possible to post a note that you traded?
  15. I went to a cache the other day that said it was a White Jeep Travel Bug. When I got there it was a long Red one. The Cache page had a link that said log your White travel bug and I did, but I am now really confused. Does it have to be a White Jeep to enter a photo in the contest? Why did the page say it was a white TB, when it was not?

  17. Last year I was caching here in Central PA. I had just found the cache in a pretty remote area. As I was headed back out I was trying the track back with my GPS. I was not really paying attention to where I was going. I almost stepped on this little guy. It was not aggressive and provided me with quite a few nice pictures. The owner of the cache saw the picture and modified his cache to let people know there were rattle snakes in the area.
  18. I use some basic html to inform cachers about my cache and why they might want to see it and this particular one, the dangers they my come across to get to the cache. Since the location is pretty remote I don't want people blindly wandering around not knowing what that they need to use some caution when searching for this cache. I used low res pictures so the page would load fast even on a slow dial up connecton, such as the one I have to use. No high speed here in the country I have learned from another cache in this remote region that I had to make certain things bold because a lot of people don't read the cache page real good. If they had read the page correctly they would not have had such a hard time getting to the cache. This cache is in a sensitive Wild Area and took some work to get approval. I did not want someone getting hurt looking for it hence the use of HTML for the page. One of my caches
  19. There is a lake in Southern Md. that is a State Park that has 15 caches around the lake. It is a bit much but you can spend the whole day there.
  20. Thanks for the info. I was wondering how I could use a serial cable when all this unit has is USB. I think you are right. I will just get the Mapsource maps. Thanks for the help.
  21. OK I got this far. I am using Maptech Terrain Navigator Maps. I got the maps up and got to where I could transfer it to the GPS. I got stuck there because the computer could not see the gps or find the driver. I DID INSTALL THE MAPSOURCE CD BEFORE doing anything but the computer did not find the driver. Did I mention I hate PC's. MAC would have written this program to just fall in place. I can do this, all I need is some little bit of information from someone who has done this and it will work. However I do not know what that information is but I will know it when I hear it after going through part of the process tonight.
  22. Using Terrain Navigator how do I get the maps into my Legend C? My main problem being how can I tell how much is in the GPS? My state has 4 cd's and I only need to put 2 of them in at the most, but I don't know how much room that will take up in the GPS. If I have the room I will put more in. As you can tell I have never done this and I will be doing it on a friends PC since I use a MAC I do not know what I will see when I hook the Legend up to the computer. Any help will be appreciated.
  23. I have a Garmin Venture for sale. Great little unit. Somewhere between an Etrex and a Legend. It works great. I have used it to find about 70 caches. I just upgraded to a Legend C because I have started doing more technical work for my Trails Club and need topo maps installed in it. I am asking $65 and $5 shipping priiorty mail. I can send a pic if you email me. Put Garmin Venture in the subject line so I can filter it out of the junk mail. george1@penn.com
  24. Hey Badlands here is the link to one of my Caches that has several jars full of Genuine US Currency. There are several jars stuffed with $250 left in this one. I like to leave money in all my caches. It makes people feel go good to find it. Many times they share the money with people in other caches. Heh Heh you though people did not leave money in Caches. Old Virgins
  25. I feel your pain. I also just got a Legend C and I use a Mac. As yet there is no USB driver for Mac. All the other info you have been give in the last post is great. I have been through it all. I guess I'll just reside myself to entering caches manually like I have always been doing. I will have to admit I went to a friend with a PC to get maps loaded in it though I guess I will jsut have to live with my Mac and use my GPS the old fashioned way.
