  1. You can also find the Delorme PN-20 right around $120.00 it should come with either topo 7 or 8 make sure you have the latest software up date and then it will have what you need except maybe a 16 or 32 meg memory card to hold the maps.

Garmins you usually have to pay extra for maps.

No need for any extra palms etc. the cache logs, hints etc are all right there on the gps.

  2. Go to file in GSAK and look for export 4th down brings up a large selection of choices in there is the option for HTML file.

I also suggested a html file and it appears to have flown right on by his head. I think that is a much better way and not alot of extra programs required.

No need to be like that. haha.....

Yeah, I missed the reference to exporting as HTML earlier. I havent done that and I am wondering if there is an option in GSAK for that.

  3. I am running 1920 x 1080 on a 24" monitor just looked at the site on IE 8 its looking pretty good now to me. the only problem I see is in my profile the map showing the states I have cached in are there but the number of caches in each state are stacked below the map.

    Now back to firefox

  4. On a windows based phone go to GSAK and export HTML file. I don't use cachemate but have had great success on my old windows based phone.

Export the file to a location on your pc that you won't loose. (I have a folder called Geocaching set it up for all things related) Plug your phone into pc Via usb and then transfer/copy the HTML to your sd card on the phone.

Then you can go to file manager on the phone go to the memory card to locate it and click on it to bring it alive.

  5. I was just noticing that when I click on My Profile and up on top under geocaches it used to say mine next to it it now says Yours click on that to bring them up. Now the wording reverts back to the old Mine word.

  6. I am partial to Delorme because I have both the PN-20 & 40 topo 7 & 8 as stated the topo program came bundled to the gps.

Delorme Customer service is great unsure of Garmins

each gps has it's plus and minus's

  7. Ok by charging dock are you referring to the black piece that slides in on the top? There are 2 cables one that has that piece hooked solid to the cable and another that you can plug a usb cable into. Yes it will charge Via USB just maybe slower than using a wall plug.

A thought when you say are you using docking are you using the touchstone? by any chance.

on my older 20 I had problems with the contacts sticking and thus it would not charge.

Also you do have the settings set on the correct battery type?

ok,,will the usb cord give it a full charge

  8. At one time I thought that the 40 might be a good gpsr choice. However this coupled with the reported exceedingly short battery life...........not a chance.

you are welcome to voice your opinion, but until you actually have one and discover its not so bad if you follow procedures and utilize correct batterys life is great.

I could advise how Garmin sucks you in and then you discover you have to pay extra for map packages. so each gps has its plus's and minus's.

  9. To me the 1st to finds enhance my rating in my area so I do jump on them quickly when they pop if I am available. I have over 50 of them so yes if it pops up via e-mail on my phone its like stop the truck load the cache info program gps and point the truck in that direction.

  10. Here is a link to the better charger for the batteries. http://www.thomasdistributing.com/shop/mah...t77bonp78maub94

a lot of cash outlay at the beginning but you won't need to repurchase anytime soon, Also on E-Bay store is a guy who makes the CAB batteries. Currently he is out of stock and maybe back in March. That is the battery I use in my 40 use the others in my 20. The cab battery requires a bit of cutting on the back cover to fit but its worth it for the extended run time it provides.

  11. Welcome to the obsession! Do not feel bad not being able to locate right off the bat. We all started like you and were a rookie. You will gain confidence and learn about geo piles and where to look for caches. Do a search for geocaching containers so that you will be able to identify what some look like. from fake rocks to pinecones to nano's with magnets up under a light pole bottom cover you will start locating.

  12. Well not sure how you one a pn-40 but congrats.

Ok you will need a premium membership on the geocaching.com website to pull queries down. You will need topo 8 as it sounds like it did not come with.

Run some good enoloop everready batteries.

Walmart.com actually had some things on sale for it at one time. Also check out Delorme.com and forum.delorme.com for additional info.

The 8 gig card will work for now but look at upgrading it to a 16 to hold maps for your area Embra I believe runs a 32 though

  13. Mine has a spot for the 100oz camelbak so I have plenty of water on board. Spotting mirror and a silva 15 compass with matches cliff or power bars. Also toilet paper is a good thing with ib profen. You might want to include a extra id card so if problems develop the rescue crew can identify you if wallet is missing plus any alllerges that can cause problems.

  14. e bay or craigs list for a palm use GSAK to put together info.

My 1st was a etrex serial port and I printed and killed a lot of trees. so keep that in mind not to print a lot of the pages.

I use a Delorme PN 40 it has the cache info on board so I am paperless and only 1 device. plus I also use Topo 8 and a laptop kept in the vehicle a friend uses the basic nuvi and loads caches in there and it gets him to the location and then he switchs to his garmin 60

    welcome to the obsession!
