  1. But you can pick up the 20 pretty reasonable several who had the 20 switched to the 40.
  2. Delorme series both the pn 20 & 40 are paperless cost less than others plus it comes with maps. try that with Garmin.
  3. the dnf's is a thought to consider. there bus stop cache series can be tough to find as well as the home depot cache.
  4. can not forget ram mounts make a few for both garmin and delorme.
  5. I have waited 5 hours and went and changed the day to Saturday and see if it shows up after midnight.
  6. Yep I ran a query when I got home tonight and nothing. Good thing I have most of the caches and won't go until Monday. Hopefully this hiccup will be finalized soon.
  7. I guess I could turn on the gps and take a look at how many there are in the area, but I have done quite a bit of them.
  8. the question is are you driving from Utah picking up caches along the way or just in Havasu and do you have a 4x4? 225 might work
  9. Here is the best place to get the ammo cans but you better have a few friends to share them with. http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/ende...amp;cmd=keyword
  10. If its a 1 it better be ADA accessible for handicap geocachers is what I have always been told. The other day I rated a new cache it came out a 5 because of the nasty road into it. I set it at 3.5. So yes it varies area to area. Up on top of a mountain here is usually a 3.5
  11. Consider the DelormePN series as it can utilize a 32gb sd cards go paperless and comes with topo maps. Garmin usually charges extra for maps and as you have discovered the 60 can not do paperless.
  12. I just got a asus ul80 4 gig ram 320 hard drive not the fastest on the block but works great. Around the 800 dollar mark. Runs window 7
  13. I should have added the delorme pn-20/40 is capable of paperless last I checked the vista is not.
  14. Welcome to the obsession! A handheld is the way to go. to start off a Garmin etrax vista H or Delorme PN 20 are around a hundred dollar bill. Delorme generally comes with maps and garmin you have to pay extra.
  15. Have you been over to www.precentral.net yet? That is the site I use for my pre. I use a delorme gps so have no need for it. I recall that the older one that worked on the Palm will work but you have to use the compatibility gizmo. Can not recall its name but allows older palm programs to run on the pre.
  16. My farthest off find was a mile and a half.
  17. If I am in the area and recall where they are (I don't keep there coordinates with me) then I will stop and look. But I have some that are over a year old with only a few finds. Those are generally ok. The ones that have over a 100 finds a year I try to visit and check them. They get more use thus abuse than others so have had to replace containers to stand up to the usage conditions. I don't do swag or 1st 2 find items just a log and golf pencil in every cache.
  18. Yes the 20 can be paperless also check craigs list or ebay
  19. Sometimes I have to just park my rear on the ground near ground zero. scan the area visually for anything that is out of place or different. Then look up for anything odd like parachute cord hanging from a branch that you have to reach way up for. Do a search on cache containers and you will find fake pine cones bird nests etc. some cachers get very creative. I did one up in Washington state next to the columbia river and it was covered in leaves bascially had to get down on knees and do the feel thing till I discovered the hidey hole.
  20. Glad to hear it came back to life and still keeping faith in Delorme. I like others started with the PN-20 and graduated to the 40. In my case the only problem I have had was pins sticking in the adapter piece for the usb cable. Chip jumped in and got me a replacement quick from tech support no problems since. I will post our experience with Delorme support, I hope this can be worked out as Robin loves the unit. The Delorme was a replacement for the Garmin (a birthday present) which went blank and powered down in the field and would not accept the update. Link.
  21. The only one I use is over on the right under my profile. Shows newest in Arizona or a search from my home coordinates with options.
  22. We would like to assist you, any updates on which 1 u have?
  23. You can also find the Delorme PN-20 right around $120.00 it should come with either topo 7 or 8 make sure you have the latest software up date and then it will have what you need except maybe a 16 or 32 meg memory card to hold the maps. Garmins you usually have to pay extra for maps. No need for any extra palms etc. the cache logs, hints etc are all right there on the gps.

    GPS

Do check that maps are included. The pn 20 should have them included the Garmin usually requires you to purchase separately.
