  1. This was a good reminder. Thanks I am finding it is easy to worry so about these travel bugs, and I of course want to see mine make the crossing, but sometimes I see a bit of obsession in the Geocaching community regarding TBs and thier survival! Since this thread seemed a bit gloomy, I figured it was a good opportunity to broaden the message a touch!
  2. Look at it this way: There are 10's of thousands of us talking about diabetes. We are telling our friends and loved ones and coworkers about this effort. That is recruiting more geocachers and opening up a discussion about diabetes. A few thousand more summertime geocachers will pick up these bugs long after these discussions have died down and they will look up the bug and talk to people about diabetes. So what happens next? Maybe a percentage of these people will open their checkbook the next time they give to charity and they will give to diabetes. Maybe when a letter comes from a research foundation we will be more likely to send a few bucks. This is a subtle effort to keep something alive in your mind. We don't really need ads for McDonalds, I doubt there is a soul left in the USA who doesn't know about McDonalds ... but they advertise like crazy because at that critical moment in time when you make the decision to grab a burger they are hoping that their restaurants will edge out the competition in your mind because they were able to leave the last or best impression. Same with this promotion. Diabetes is becoming an epidemic in the US, and presumably the world. It is growing by factors, and yet we are fairly complacent because of the high tech treatments we have here in the US. Insulin pumps, oral meds, early detection etc. that the rest of the world may not enjoy. Read some of the stats on how fast diabetes is growing and you will feel doubly good about your efforts to promote awareness. My bug may not make it to Romania, but it may touch a lot of lives wherever it goes. That is the true goal! Todd
  3. The Aiud, Romania Unite for Diabetes TB is on its way, starting its journey in Kettering OH, USA. One heck of a long way to go. A mere 6000 miles as the crow flies. That is the TB sitting on my deck in suburban Dayton Ohio. I have had it a few days, I applied some time last week, so quick turnaround. I am excited to see what happens here and I hope we all get great success! Reference TB1BFX0 Todd
  4. Way I figure something did not save right when I loaded this file. An older one was still happily roosting in the geocache folder -- reiterating that I did not get any options to pick or choose where this was going. It almost feels as if it was in memory, and when I forced the reset it of course disappeared. I will go back to the basics and read up on the procedures and get more comfy with it before I try to rely on it again. Plus I think a little research may be in order to find a different reader, I am not really inclined to liking the Mobipocket GUI. Sorry to the Mobipocket fans out there, no bash intended -- I like my technology to work. Simple and easy is the order of the day when you are dependent on technology to complete a mission. Sure it's just geocaching but I tied up three hours of a day off and a good sized splash of gas to get out to my goal search area -- dangnabbit! Todd
  5. I downloaded the prc file for my day's cache work and sent it to my pda with the Mobipocket reader that is installed on my PC. Pulled the pda and headed for my adventure. All was well for the first cache, but then when I tried to fire up the pda is stuck on the owner info screen. Forced a reset, and everything was fine except the document was gone. Oh joy, that made for a tough day and I only found two without a clue as to what type of container and so on. I enjoy the challenge of just using coordinates, but today I had some specific goals. Anyway, consider this a chance to scream out loud. Anyone else have issues with Mobipocket eating your stuff? I noticed that it did not give me any chance to pick where I saved it, so maybe I have to RTFM. Happy Caching and Happy Holidays Todd
