  1. Sorry Chilehead for stealing you idea. It's a difficult one to search for as not many keywords. I'll close topic since Jeremy has already offered his views. E
  2. I've always thought it would be handy to have an area for the cache owner to store notes about a cache - and where the cache owner would be the only one to see them. Similar to the text box for comments to the reviewer when setting up a cache. Only this box would always be availabe even if reachable only in the edit mode. Some examples might be all waypoints of a multicache or the answer coordinates to a puzzle cache. I currently have these on a seperate word document, but sometimes someone will email me while I'm at work and I don't have that document with me. If I could go to the cache page and pull up my "notes" for that cache I could check for correct coordinates or really anything I need to know about my cache. Just a thougt- E
  3. I bet you could if you really tried hard enough. It's amazing what women can make men do
  4. Don't you mean start looking for the cache?
  5. They already do that around here in NC (certain parts of NC), they set up cameras and clock you (also for running red lights) and send you the ticket in the mail. Doesn't matter if you ket your friend borrow your car - the car owner gets the ticket.
  6. Well, it looks like they have accomplished their goal, or the local group should work with them to adjust that fee. Does the fee include an annual entry pass? If so that would put it right in line with the annual pass price for CA state parks, and does that fee include the right to hide caches in all NC state parks? . Nope - that fee is per cache and does not include any other park fees. I also noticed that the fee is now $35 per 3 months. Here is a copy of the policy. I didn't see mentioned the time frame on this one, but I have seen the fee good for 3 months mentioned several times before. Several people (closer to the state's capitol) have been in discussion with whoever in trying to work with them. My opinion for a compromise is for the state to pick a couple of parks, and allow geocaches to be placed (following the same guidelines - just no fee) and see what happens. If things go bad - then they have a claim on their current policy. I'm disapointed in my state to impose such a high fee - a fee they know nobody is really going to pay to limit such an activity. I would rather see an all out ban, than they try to say they support Geocaching (with their fingers crossed)
  7. Quote (which I don't have to to figure out why I didn't get a correct quote format-) " It has been used for spiritual ceremonial purposes for millennia and continued to be used until recently by members of the nearby Nation that once controlled the land. He found Stonehenge........ Exactly how long is a millennia? E
  8. NC state parks have cache hiding permits, but they're $120 per cache per year I have yet to hear of anyone purchasing the right to hide a geocache in a NC park. E edited a spelling error
  9. Just curious, which agency was the badge from?
  10. All of the Target department stores around here have put a "Everything's a $1" section in front of their stores. I've bought some dvds and even a couple computer games there. Some of the stuff might not be worth a $1, but some of it isn't too bad. Since I mentioned DVDS - Wally World had some for $0.88 the other night (off topic - did you ever notice no prices ever end in a 9 at Wal-Mart) E
  11. I've posted this one before for something else, but seems to fit here too. Somewhere along the NC coast.
  12. Thanks for all of the help & advice. Eswau
  13. Two years ago I bought a Garmin V package that came with the Mapsouce City Select software which I installed on my PC and use to update my V when needed. However I have since purchased a new PC and have misplaced (lost) my cds that came with my V. Currently, I am using the old PC only to run this one program and would like to somehow get it over to the new PC so I don't have to have two PCs in the house. Not being too PC savoy, I'm wondering what my options are, I figure I could buy the new software ($100) but hate to do that when I have already bought it once before and still have the program running on the old PC. Another option that might be available to me is that my brother also has a Garmin V with the same software. So I guess my question is - Is the Garmin software installable more than one time? If so, is there a limit, I would hate to take one of his installs if it is limited and he upgrades to another computer. Hopefully I've explained my problem without getting too confusing - if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks, Eswau

    Counting Caches

Some are listed with an "*" - those are the ones that count. Travel Bugs, benchmarks and Geocoins don't count. E
  15. Here is my response to the same question from last summer, I haven't cached in Charlotte since then so my answer is the same, though I'm sure there are plenty of other good ones. "Of the ones in Charlotte that I've done, Galaxy Cache is one of my all time favorites. Charlotte Poker Run is a great cache that will take you all over Charlotte, but this cache could take you 3-4 hours to finish. Top Cat has hidden several caches that are related to each other, so you could get to one park and find 3 or 4 connected caches. Adventuretom's caches are well thought out and he has put a lot of work developing great story lines to go with them. There are plenty of others, but I'll let someone else give you their suggestions." Eswau
  16. One of my all time favorites is A Geocaching Bonaventure It's located in the most interesting cemetary I've ever visited. E
  17. I'm not 100% sure what they used to have but they had something similar back in 10/02. I found out about Geocaching while I was surfing the Garmin site. I do remember the Geo + Cache squares but I really don't remember what else it had back then. E
  18. As mentioned above, a shorter time frame than the "can be found in an hour or less" - I would "guess" that +75% of all caches can typically be found in an hour or less, so maybe even a 15 minutes or less, or 30 minutes or less. E
  19. Jeremy, Did you know the state maps still had this line below them - "Blue containers, Green containers, and Blue with a white checkbox are all geocaches." I still find myself using the old maps and noticed this line the other day. E
  20. I recently aquired an unreleased Yellow Jeep. I know the contests are over but is it too late to release it as a Yellow Jeep Travel Bug. I'm guessing it isn't but I haven't been following the whole YJ story line, so I'm not 100% sure. Thanks- E
  21. My vote is for an interview with someone that has several hundred hides. It would be interesting to find out what motivates them , how much work is involved and what they see as positives and or negatives of someone placing so many caches. At least that's stuff I've wondered about........ E
  22. I think I know what your problem was..... Just kidding of course. E
  23. There used to be a place around here that sold the Crown Royal purple bags for 10 cents each. They had hundreds of them. NC is a big textile area, so for all I know, they were made around here somewhere. As a kid, I had a bunch and stored all my "treasures' in them. I had forgotten about them until I saw your post.
