  1. Heh, thanks for the help. What I did was take a little trip to REI. They had the Oregon 200 for $345. I poked-around with it, took it outside. I did not like two things about it... first, I didn't like the basemap. Not enough detail for me. Second, I didn't like how the screen washed-out when outside, and it was not even direct sunlight; foggy and wet but screen still went really dim. So I went back inside and bought a Colorado 400t for the same price. I liked it much better. No touch screen, but shoot, I got the compass and the maps for the same price.
  2. I have been away from Geocaching for a few years and the family is recently getting back into it. What I have currently is an eTrex Legend (the blue one). I used to have a Palm to do paperless caching but the Palm has since died. Here is why I am considering the 200 and maybe someone can point out why I should spend the extra $$$ on the 300 or 400t or on something else completely different altogether... Basically, all I really want to do is paperless Geocaching with it. I'm not a hiker so I don't need Topo maps or electronic compasses and such, I'm not big on turn-by-turn navigation (sue me... I like to plan my geocaching expeditions on paper maps, plus I have OnStar for that in the rare instance I need it for other purposes). I do however like to turn on the GPS and have it track where I went and upload the tracks to Google Earth and whatnot for giggles, but I can do that with any GPSr. Here is why I am leary... I also want to have the ability to mount it to my motorcycle handlebars so I can see when I am getting close enough to park and start the hunt when I am soloing, but I see a lot of people moaning about the screen in bright sunlight. I have also seen the PN-40 and it looks good but promises of coming true paperless caching and actually already having it are two different things. Also seen a lot about very short battery life with it. Anyone who can shed any light on the above? It's a big purchase so I want to make the right one.

Was it everything you expected, and more? george http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/39570_500.jpg Pedal until your legs cramp up and then pedal some more. The unabridged dictionary of the English language does not contain the words to describe the joy that I feel right now.

Sorry 'bout that. Anyways, it is placed. [This message was edited by 4_Hearts on January 24, 2003 at 01:59 PM.]

  6. quote:Originally posted by fizzymagic:Probaly would be. That &*^&% container eluded me for some time when I went looking! Heh. Guess I'm in the same boat. Thing is, I went out to look for it and found a pointy-ended stake pointing right to where the coordinates zeroed out. I figured that to be "the teepe", but looked around anyways and no dice. If someone did find it, they have not posted it in the last 36 hours. If someone did not find it, I guess I'm just not a good enough looker yet
  7. Would it be cheating if someone would tell me what kind of container the CVC Tag Cache is in? Thanks.
  8. quote:New subject: How about that Key Cache? I haven't heard too much chatter about that in a while. I think everyone is waiting to hear what YOU have to say about that one.

Looks like the Hearts are going to anni in too. (anni? spelling may be smelling) Oh no. A Bronco or a Polaros just won't do in Red Hills. That thar is Jeep Country!

I knew cachers C & M had a little click go but just didn't realize they'd treat the rest of the alphabet like this! Where's Red Hill and how much tread does my 4x4 need to get in (and out) in the winter? Bill, Red Hills is up by Sonora. The fire Roads are pretty well packed down so you shouldnt need much tread. There is 3 other caches close in those hills. Fun ones to go get. Maybe I will just plant the tag in Ripon somewhere mike If it's got wing's, I can fly it!! Noooo! Put it in Red Hills! I need another excuse to put-off washing the Jeep!
  11. Looks like someone already got TAG. I went and saw a "teepee" of leaves, or at least what looked like a very deliberate placement resembling something that maybe once stood upright at one time. Oh well. I guess one hour after placement is too long to wait for this group!
  12. Did seven caches today. Thanks for all the fun people.
  13. I placed my first cache today. It should appear here shortly. It is one of georgeandmary's babies. I apologize if it is too easy for you
  14. Anyone here using Pocket Queries? I was curious if you somehow integrate them with mapping software for your handheld. These PQ's sure make it easier to get out caching... No printing and sorting and searching for the right sheet! Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  15. Hi all. We are getting to like this pretty well. Took the family up to the Pinecrest area today and did five caches up there. Keeps me busy until I can find a job I guess
