I'm guessing you either ran into a hobbit, or someone who doesn't grow mushrooms because they look pretty... Perhaps both, maybe neither. :-) I'm pretty sure, as it was late spring, they were waiting for the morels to pop up. And some of these folks are rather territorial.

We leave both a card "The Adventure Bhoys" and a hunter's orange dinosaur (we repaint them and put the blog addy on it.)

At all times, carry a plastic grocery bag. When hunting-hiding, pick up any and all garbage you find. It's better than an invisibility cloak.

The kids part (if you have some on hand) is always the best cover. As my kids are also Scouts, having a t-shirt or cap has yet to fail to expalin that they are up to adventure, not serious mischief.
