  1. I may be simple minded......(no flaming please?) But why do we all need to use the same logo? In reading other messages throughout the Groundspeak forum, it seems folks prefer to find personalized or signature items. What's wrong with everyone making their own coins? I would love to find special Geo-coins, but I don't want to find a bunch that are all the same. I'd like to find different ones........it just makes it more fun when the items that you're collecting are different. If one wants to reference Geocache.com on the back of their coins...then perhaps a small geocache.com icon and the web address? I would rather collect small tokens of others creativity........ I would like to dig through the treasures and find one that's different than the one I found last week.......
  2. We found a cache last weekend that had a 3 fold flyer in it for something I've always wanted to do, but is on the expensive side. When I first saw it, I thought......oh cool! I hoped there would be a coupon for it. But there wasn't I would have used it had there been one. Otherwise, as someone else so eloquently put it, it's a geo-pop up ad. But also makes me wonder if this poor guy can't even go have fun for a day without thinking about work....
  3. Our town has one of those trailers that the police department puts out to clock how fast you're going. Our geovan says it's going 3mph faster than what they clocked us at. We also used hand held radios and compared it with a friends van....also 3mph off. In playing with the GPS speed, the GPS also says we're going 3mph slower than what the speedometer says........And since the police are always right we're going to believe the GPS is right on..........
  4. My kids love the money! I tend to like the different little gadgets and goodies, but to my kids, a dollar or a quarter or whatever is the true treasure. A quarter gets them something at their school store........and a dollar that gets them an extra item or two with their school lunches...... or a candy bar at the gas station on the way home from the cache........
  5. Does anyone know the percentage of cachers who don't log their finds on Geocache.com? We ran into 2 groups of cachers last weekend at 2 different caches,.....so far, neither one has logged thier visit. I would do a survey, but don't have a clue how........ I'm just wondering what would be higher, the number of cachers logging or the number that are searching incognito? Are these caches getting WAY more traffic than one would think by looking on the online log? Once a cache is closed, are there more logs in the log book than online?
  6. Webelos are the 4th and 5th grade Cub Scouts. There is a small orienteering or compass skills in the Webelos program. My husband runs a small orienteering course every year for Camporee. You could do the same thing on a smaller scale. Pick a park. Set up 2 different courses. One with the Compass and one with the GPS. While 1/2 the scouts are using compasses, the other 1/2 could be using the GPS............then switch.
  7. I appreciate everyones help on this one. After listening to all of your ideas and giving it some more thought, we've decided to just let it go. I can think of a million conversations with MY 14 year old where I missinterpreted his attitude. And lets face it, at that age.........it IS all about the goodies. I emailed the cache owner and extended an invite to go with us. Havn't heard back from him, but my son talked to him at school yesterday, so he knows who we are now too. We'll see what happens......... Thanks again for all your help!!!
  8. I'm not sure what to do in this situation......maybe ya'll can help. We found a cache relatively close to our home. We left an american flag pin and took a dollar. We then posted our log on the cache page. this morning, there was alog from the cache owner. This is what it said: "Once again visited my own cache, with the intent of getting the American Flag Pin, allegedly left just yesterday. I looked all over the cache but could not find the pin. Are you guys sure you left it? Anyway, I took the hockey puck instead and left a pocket dictionary." We did leave the American flag pin.....what happened to it I don't know. We're not crazy about the negative post however as we feel it tarnishes our integrity..... In reading the previous logs from visitors it indicates that this cache owner is a 15 year old. And we believe that my son goes to school with him. We noticed that he had a cache hidden but had not logged any finds. We were thinking about calling him and seeing if he wanted to go with us once in a while so he could get some finds under his belt. Now I don't know.......... Anyway, what would you folks do? Would you make another log that the flag pin was left and you don't know what happened to it? Would you go back to the cache, leave something else (perhaps also finding the pin) only this time take a picture of it and post it on your next log? Would you just let it go as a bitter cache'r and move on with your finding festivities? I hate to leave any negative logs, making this an unappealing cache to visit. However, one feels like they need to defend themselves........ Oppinions would be appreciated. Geo-Johnson's
  9. We're brand spankin' new to Geocaching too....we've only found 2 so far. We've got 3 kids 9, 12, and 15. We ALL want to be the one to find it. And with my kids, if they don't, i'm afraid they'll get discouraged. But sometimes as adults, our immaturity tends to rear its ugly head and we want to be the finder.......We have a deal that the first person to find it can yell out "I found it!" However, we will wait until everyone finds it on their own before the first person can reveal it's location.......that way we all get the find. It takes a little while longer waiting for everyone to find it, but at least we all feel good about it........
