  1. I'd flip them the bird (privately and out of sight, of course) and place it anyway. But that's me. --tim
  2. All-- Just discovered how to get Mapsource routes formatted in a way that the "Caches along a route" (CAAR) feature will find readily acceptable. Just though I'd pass the information on in case somebody else runs into problems: 1) Create your route in Mapsource. 2) Save your info in .gdb format. Mapsource's .gpx format is not in a format that CAAR likes. 3) Open up GPSBabelGUI (assuming it's installed -- find gpsbabel + gui setup file at http://www.gpsbabel.org/) 4) For input, browse to your .gdb file. 5) For output, define your .gpx output file. Now the one little niggle: click on the Options button for the output. Select the "Target GPS Version for Output" checkbox and enter "1.1" in the text field. Click OK. 6) Make sure the "Routes" checkbox is checked. 7) Hit the "Let's Go!" button. 8) Upload your file and you should be good to go. Hope this helps. --tim
  3. One quick comment -- it's cool to see that DeLorme has forums set up.... especially cool that they've got one dedicated to suggestions. Do they take user comments seriously? I had sent in several comments to Garmin about my unit and got a form letter like response and that's about it. One of my complaints back then was the same one I raised in this thread -- the comment field is too short for waypoints. The only way to get around this (besides using a PDA) is to convert the waypoints to POIs, but that's not the most straightforward approach. --tim
  4. This looks like an interesting unit. Do any of you owners know what kinds of limitations there are with the comments field? I downloaded the FAQ and the user's manual from the DeLorme site but didn't see it speak to that. The Garmin 60CSx I have has a very small text length for its waypoint comments field which is disappointing. I'd really like to have a unit that gets me to paperless caching. Thanks, --tim
  5. I thought this one was funny. The guy on the sign looks like a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is.
  6. I found a site yesterday that looks to be a good source of POI data for the Garmin. You can visit it here: www.Poi-factory.com. Specifically, I was trying to find a data base containing Minnesota lakes and they had a CSV file for the entire US. Cool! They also a bunch of other POI data bases as well: parks, islands, paintball, and beaches to name a few. Does anyone reading this have any similar sites they'd like to share? Personally, I'd like to find a good source for restaurant POIs. --tim
  7. Yep. But, as I understood it, my price was high enough that you were just going to go with a brand spanking new one from Amazon.com. --tim
  8. Got a Forerunner 205 for sale @ $180. Rather than list it on eBay and letting them get a cut, thought I'd post here first. I've got a GPSMap 60CSx now and don't really do the jogging thing anymore. Comes with: - The unit itself (duh!) upgraded to v2.40 s/w. Among other things, allows for manual coord entry. - *Two* cradles (one has a dodgy USB connection and Garmin sent me a second one) - USB cable - USB adapter/charger cable - Two wrist straps for size adjustment - Wrist strap changing tool thing-a-ma-jig - Training Center software - Manual - Original box (yay!) I've got 100% feedback on eBay where my id is "tes425". Thanks, --tim
  9. For what it's worth, they price match. I know that the local Fleet Farm had 50cal ammo cans on sale for $4 a pop -- unfortunately, they were out of stock. I brought the Sunday sales sheet in to Northern Tool and walked out with 6 ammo cans at the $4 rate -- regular Northern Tool price around here is $9/each. Not too shabby. --tim
