I believe when you "Find Nearest", it only shows the first 50 results no matter how many you have loaded into your unit. Try switching to "Find by Name" and see if they're all there.

So if I understand this right, the pocket quierie big advantage is the ability to search in a much more defined way? I think I am confused on the GPX issue though as well.

My Garmin Mapsource software that came with the 60CSx can open GPX files and export into my 60CSx. And, that location will show up on the software. So as it stands now, without pocket quiery's, I need to load one at a time the gpx files into the Mapsource software, then upload in to the Garmin?
If you specifially want the .gpx format this is correct. If for whatever reason your satisfied with the .loc format, you can get 20 at a time from any 'search results' page (see image).

This is partly correct. You will only be able to load them one at a time into Mapsource, but there may be a way to combine the single files within Mapsource so you can get all of the waypoints grouped into one file before you actually sent to the gps. I rarely use Mapsource, so I'm not sure of the best way to do this with Mapsource alone. *edited to add - You may find this thread helpful in that regard.
Will the GSAK software load more info from the GPX file into the Garmin? As it stands now i see very little diff when I upload a GPX file versus a LOC file from the Mapsource into the Garmin. Maybe I am doing something
Yes. As already commented, it can take various pieces of info about the cache and add it into the name or comments for that waypoint.
Also, I unfortunately do not have a PDA/Palm, so I think that means I will still need to print on paper the cache page with info?
True, but older pda's are available on ebay for just a couple of dollars. A very minimal pda can hold hundreds of cache pages.
Just to clarify:
LOC=Cache name and coords
GPX=All info from the cache page (except the map), including the last five logs made online
In addition to the extra info that actually gets to your gps, .gpx files make it very nice to review caches you're interested in offline, so if the site is down or you're somewhere with a laptop and no internet connection, you can still have access to the info.

Sounds like the center point that's established before the filter is run isn't where you want it to be. Have you set up your home coords in the program?

I've set cachemate so when I log a find it makes an entry for that cache in the "Found" category.
This is really nice.
Then I'd mark the dnf's with a mark in the bookmark box.
When I moved all the bookmarked caches to the "not found" category, I discovered that all
the entries in the found category had been deleted !!!
Did I do something wrong?
Does a person have to choose which feature they like best?

When you move the bookmarked items to "Not Found", I believe this also automatically changes your current view to that category, making it appear that the "Found" items have disappeared. If you set the view back to "All" (or "Found") you may find that the records are still there after all.

You can download benchmarks county by county directly from the NGS. You can then use a utility called BMGPX (third paragraph from the top) to convert those files into .gpx files, which you can open with Google Earth.

Cachemate from Smittyware.com I believe teamed with GSAK
While GSAK is certainly an awesome tool (which I use too), it isn't required to get info into your pda. CacheMate comes with a utility to convert the .gpx data to a usable palm format.

Yeah, but with the current PQ setup, you can't exclude caches that are placed by a certain person. If that feature were added to the PQ setup, I'd be happy
Agreed. It makes sense to me to have the "exclude by owner" as an ignore list feature, but I don't see the point in expanding it to include things such as size and type which can already be controlled through pocket queries.

I think a more general ignore filter would be useful. Allow ignoring of caches meeting an arbitrary query condition including size, owner, type, etc.
That's what pocket query filters are for. Set up the queries to exclude sizes and types you don't like, then you never have to see caches that don't interest you. The only time I visit a cache page online is to log it.

Keep in mind that there is a 30 character limit for the comment field on the 60CSx. If the hint is longer than that, you won't get it all.

They have a minimum order, in dollars, but I was unable to figure out what it is. You can't order one foot, though - I tried, and it wasn't enough for the minimum. I wasn't interested enough to keep adding square feet until I found out how much was required.
Two square feet is enough to meet the minimum.

The Garmin 76CSx is almost a fraternal twin of the 60CSx. It has a different form factor, but the same insides and can usually be found for about $30 cheaper then the 60CSx.

This gives you much more information in the notes section, including more of the hint, and lets you store as many caches as the space on your card allows. If you prefer to use the 60CSx's built-in geocaching features then just set the "Waypoint description format" field in GSAK's "Send Waypoints to GPS" dialog to %hint.

Just for the OP's info: If you use the method detailed above, you will not be able to use your unit's 'Geocaching Mode' features with the Points of Interest. Caches must be loaded as Waypoints in order to use the special geocaching features built into your unit.

I also got the "You have reached the maximum number of Pocket Queries for this account." message.
Just for the record, does the "My Finds" PQ count towards the limit of 40 PQs? Because, I have 39 PQs right now and wanted to add one more.. but couldn't.

Yes, it does count against your total. You will need to delete one (or more) queries before creating any new ones. See post #2 and/or #3 at the top of this thread.

Since my eyesight is still quite good, how can I reduce the data filed sizes to something considerably smaller (such as even half the size).

I can't help with the GPSr question, but for the GSAK question, unless the cache has the treasure chest icon, you won't get the Geocache functions on the GPSr.
This is not quite correct. The 60Cx/CSx and 76Cx/CSx will only recognize a single symbol for 'geocache' or 'geocache found'. While the default symbols are set to the closed and open treasure chest respectively, they can be changed to any symbol that exists on the unit, including custom icons. Just highlight the icon you wish to change, and select the one you wish to use.
The important thing is that the symbol in the geocache setup screen is the same as the symbol that is associated with the geocaches you are uploading to your gps, whatever that symbol may actually be. Having multiple symbols recognized as a geocache is not possible

Yes. Reduce your mapset by 597 tiles. BTW, the map segment limit is 2025.

Cachemate was very easy to get set up since GSAK will export its file type, but it still wasn't what I wanted since it won't do custom filters and sorting based on cache attributes.

Let GSAK do all of your custom filtering and sorting, then have it spit out multiple files for CacheMate. As far as cache attributes, NO sofware (for pda or PC) can sort based on cache attributes, since they aren't included in Pocket Queries.

While participating in a walk-a-thon at a National Battlefield, I attempted to do some virtuals that were along my route. At one, I pulled out my pda to check the description and began to read, only to find that this particular cache was a 10-stage virtual. I skipped it and moved on because I didn't have the flexibility at the time to change my pre-established route....no big deal.
I use custom icons in my gps to show me the cache type right on my screen, and in this particular case I thought it would have been more useful to me to have this cache listed as a Multi, rather than a Virtual. Of course, new Virtuals are no longer allowed, so this specific situation won't be duplicated in the future (though similar examples are surely still out there), but it could be possible to have a cache that is both a Letterbox Hybrid and Multi-Stage.
I'm not at all 'complaining' about how the owner classified the cache, because it IS Virtual in nature. In cases where the type might overlap, how do you (or would you) decide which classification might be best suited to the cache?

There is no way to add mapping capability to EasyGPS, but it's big brother ExpertGPS downloads topos and aerial photos from the net and also allows you to scan and calibrate any of your own maps to use as well (they must be properly scaled maps to provide accurate coordinates).
