  1. LOL I was confused too apparently. At one time wasn't there an option to create a query right from the cache page? Anyway, between my friend having a Delorme PN40 which I am not familiar with and them moving stuff around it was quite the chore to get out the door yesterday
  2. Thanks Walts! Didn't realize it was a map function. I sure hope they incorporate it into the new maps. It makes things way easier for a day trip.
  3. Really? Wow I used it often, however I often take off for a day to an event not near my home. Click the event cache page and there was a nice pocket query link with the coordinates already in place. I was trying to help my friend who recently got a premium membership and isn't all that computer savvy when I noticed it was gone.
  4. Did this just happen with the last update? If so why???? This was a great feature if you wanted to pick a center point and do a radius of an area. I have no problem posting to the feedback site but I don't want to be redundant if it's already being discussed.
  5. Welcome to the game! Definitely try to make it to the events. Flash Mob, you will have to tag onto a group real quick. I personally don't like those. No offense to the organizers who work hard to put them on. I just prefer more to hang around in a spot and shoot the breeze at an event. But the Whodunit should be a blast and it's an all day affair. Plenty of time to meet, greet, eat and cache. Hope to see you there.
  6. Go caching an a group and make sure you run faster then at least one of them, you should be fine
  7. I still think they should not have moved the site issue forum off of here. When you go there now to report it you can't because it loops you to gc.com to sign in which you can't because it's down.
  8. I just tried and can't get in at all. Came here to look for a note that they were down for maintenance.
  9. Also, Costco carries them. But you might not want such a large package. I believe I got my last ones at Thomson.
  10. I was going to slam the poster who couldn't be bothered to charge batteries but I will refrain restrain myself. I am thrilled with Sanyo Eneloops and I use the LaCrosse Charger in my Oregon. I throw two sets on the charger before bed and in the morning they are ready. They stay charged for a long time unlike other types of rechargeable's I have used. It's really easy, just as easy as not disposing of trash on the ground or as easy as taking a shopping cart back to the corral at the grocery.
  11. About 70 minutes from 19102 to Elkton, MD If you are trying to add MD and DE, the easiest way would be to come down I-95 to the exit just over the MD/DE border, grab a couple there and then take local road to Newark, DE and grab a couple there. You can then get right back on I-95 and head back north. No clue about NY, still haven't added it to my list (I'd rather go to another country) Why you hatin on NY? That is a whole lotta hating for one of the greatest and largest states in the country! Snoogans, when you come to NYC I am sure there will be a huge event in your honor. I hope I am available to make it. PS, those famous steak places are not all that great and they are run by bigots. Try the local steak shop in any neighborhood instead. Fried onions, ketchup, cheese *not whiz* and hot peppers is my favorite.
  12. Having the same problem. Working with geocaches is fine, but selecting 'Waypoints' causes an immediate shutdown. Message sent to Garmin. Mine does the same when choosing Waypoints. I can choose that once, subsequent try it shuts down. Boot it, choose a waypoint, navigate away and come back to choose another and shuts down. Bug report sent. PS if everyone asks for a larger pointer on the compass arrow when they send bug reports maybe they will give us one!
  13. To avoid this 1: Delete the .gpx files on your Oregon. I also delete the poi's that the macro creates 2: Disconnect then power on. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP 3: Reconnect, reload. 4: Disconnect and boot. Since I have been doing this I have not had a problem. DO NOT SKIP STEP 2! ETA, the reboot with nothing on seems to clear the internal memory bank or something. Sure it takes another step instead of just loading over the old but it works and you don't have to think will it work or not this time. Worth it to me.
  14. GC is running awfully slow this AM
  15. I have a Pansonic Lumix DMC FH20. This is my third Lumix. First one I lost caching, second one I must have banged and the shutter would stick. I am trying to be nicer to this one but am very happy with the Lumix line and they get great reviews everywhere. I also have a Nikon D70S but I am a klutz and fall often while hiking so don't take it unfortunately. And if it's just for a quick shot or one I want to post to Facebook right away I use my iPhone 3G. ETA I am hoping to get a new Lumix when the waterproof models come down in price soon given my procilvity for mistreatment, I don't want to spend a lot
  16. I didn't look at the cache yet but a nano is usually about the size of a short, forefinger nail and magnetic. But try some easier, larger ones first and welcome to the game!
  17. I agree you should get a handheld. The Nuvi isn't rugged enough and not only does the battery not last as long but you can't change it in the field like a handheld. The 3 Garmin's I've had all had tracks to show where you'd been. I would think any handheld would.
  18. Thanks for everyone's input. I am sure it will help people looking to purchase this unit. My friend decided on the PN-40. Knowing him I thought he would be disappointed in the limitations of the Magellan GC and want to upgrade within a short time of using it. IMO it seems like a unit for someone more cash strapped that might not be sure they want to do this game long term which is whom I might recommend it to.
  19. Just wondering if you did any software updates to it. Seems contrary to other posts here.
  20. Don't worry about posting the photos. I appreciate the feedback from you both. Thanks All due respect, my road bike has given me several years of great rides and I don't for one minute regret that I chose the more expensive one. Each to his own. I also have a hybrid and a mtb for other kinds of riding.
  21. LOL two almost completely different answers. Mind you this is the guy that told me to buy the road bike that cost $600 more then the one I was looking at because if I liked it I would have to upgrade sooner. Maybe I will remind him of that.
  22. I hike with a couple who have not been interested in getting their own GPS. I even have a spare Vista HCx but they were never interested in using it. I'd say they have been along on at least 150 of my finds. Now they want to buy an inexpensive GPS to use if they are away without me. I know nothing about this unit. I'd rather see them get a PN-40 but they don't want to go for the $$. My opinion is once they have it, they will use it on the days they hike without me even around here, may as well get the better unit right off the bat. Opinions on the Magellan?
  23. I also keep a GSAK database and update it between Friday night and Saturday morning for the weekend's caching with a PQ that I get every Friday. Then I sort by last GPX and if it's not the day of the PQ I know it's been made unavailable or archived and I don't load it. I learned my lesson about how to keep a database current when I went for a cache once on a hill full of slippery leaves and nearly fell only to find out when I went to log a DNF that it had been marked temporarily unavailable. If I am going to an event out of my area I do a PQ the night beforehand and load it.
  24. That blog is the most bizarre thing I have read lately
