  1. Heads UP: Most recent post here is months old. Technology moves much faster than that.
  2. Is there a way to find how many cachers there are, based on their registration, in the USA, by state? I'm particularely interested in Indiana and Kentucky but would like to know the total number, too!
  3. Any update on the meeting?
  4. Thanks, Stunod, at least your avatar is a redhead!
  5. I want (I think) to add images, wrap text, etc, to my cache screens. I'm sure there must be a residend HTML assistant (redhead, age 22, 5'8"??) which could be invoked to make life easier than doing all the tags manually. But where is it and how to invoke? If it doesn't exist and I'm required to manually do it, however, I'm probably relieved...... more time to cache. Thanx. -ARF
  6. This cache happens to belong to me. It's on a public road closed to thru auto traffic. My wife and I walked to the cache today to check on it. No confrontation. Children play around that creek and bridge regularly. The cache has been there since 11/02 and has been logged many times without incident. While I won't recommend it to anyone else, I'd call his bluff. Chump probably threatens children, too. Cache on. ARF
  7. I have a Delorme Earthmate GPS with their Street Atlas USA 2004 software running on my notebook PC. I also run GSAK, MapSend Streets, CacheMate and ExpertGPS. I use a Magellan Sportrak Map and a Palm Zire 71. I can send waypoints from GSAK to MapSend and display them on a map, but I can't seem to get the EarthMate to 'talk' to the map so I can navigate to the displayed waypoints. Also, I want to send the waypoints to DeLorme Street Atlas so the GPS can navigate me to them there as well, or instead. I know I'm not in new territory, it's being done today. I have all the pieces and I know I'm close, I just can't get the GPS and the waypoiints on the same map. Any help rewarded with a spoiler for Aero Heads. Thanks!
  8. Haven't seen this question answered, but everyone who uses pocket queries has to wonder if there is a much (did I say MUCH!) faster way to get maps to my PDA other than the multiple clicks necessary to load ONE map via AvantGo from the mapquest screen? Is there a way to get the maps along with the cache pages in a pocket query? I can get 500 caches in a snap, but not the maps that go with them. Unless someone knows how......... Thanks for any enlightenment!
  9. This is what I did. I went to the last caches logged by the cachers who took the bugs. I clicked on '...all nearby caches'. I posted a note on the logs of 30 caches each asking if anyone knew the cachers who took the bugs, and if so to please remind them to log the bugs or contact me. Both cachers are caching in a small area, so they'll see their name splattered on the logs of all nearby caches. If I don't get a response that way, well, that's it, I guess. 11. quote:Originally posted by Renegade Knight:Magellans tend to do a moving average. If they lose signal they can work around that with a guestimate your position based on your heading and speed. As you get close to a cache you tend to slow down but the moving average tend isn't as slow as you so the Magelland shoots you ahead a bit then catchs up and moves you back to the coordinate. In another thread on this someone said that they step back a few steps as they get close to throw off the moving average and that works well for them. That's my understanding of the problem. Backing up, eh? I'll give that a try this afternoon. THANKS! A wink is as good as a nod, to a blind horse.
  12. I've had two bugs taken but never logged. One had 9k miles and I hate to lose it. The cachers logged the finds and said they took the bugs, but never logged them on the TB page. They continue to cache but won't answer any emails. Do we have rogue cachers out there who 'collect' travel bugs? Anyone else with same problem. Any solutions?
  13. I'm not talking about standing sill, rather walking. I marked the fire hydrant across the street, then walked 300 feet down the street. I approached the hydrant at walking speed. I contend that the GPSr should zero out at the hydrant. Instead, I walk 30 feet beyond it before it gets to zero, and then continues to update until it says I am 30 feet beyond. If I were a cruise missile I would have missed my target by 30 feet at 2.2 mph. At 700mph, a cruise missile would miss a target my many miles. A wink is as good as a nod, to a blind horse.
  14. I have a Magellen Sportrak Map. If I wlk to a target at 2.5 mph, for example, I'll walk until my GPSr zeros out. But then it starts counting up again until it stops, usually 20-30 feet past the target. So my footspeed is faster than my updates. How can that be when this tech is used in cars and aircraft and cruise missiles and such? I purchased the GPS new in November of last year. I bought my wife an identical unit three months ago. Same problem. Anyone know the answer, or the problem cause? There is no 'save battery' feature which slows updates from one second to five, and I keep fresh batteries aboard. Any speculation, reasoning, guessing, knowing appreciated. A wink is as good as a nod, to a blind horse.
  15. GPS is free. About purhasing, I bought my Sportrak Map on eBay and paid $149 plus $6 shipping. At two local sporting goods stores, the unit was priced at $229 and $199. I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase price. Since then, I purchased a car power cord (these things EAT batteries!) and a belt carry-case. Both on eBay, both at half retail price. I've only had mine for a week, so I'm a newbie with two cache finds and a benchmark find. The power cord and carry-case haven't arrived yet. I only won the auctions Friday. Fair warning from this newbie, THIS SPORT IS ADDICTIVE! It's raining in Louisville, Kentucky right now and my wife and I are watching the Weather Channel radar to see when the rain will stop so we can get back on the trail!! Grrrrrr!!
  16. This was hidden by Tripleader and is in a gorgeous area. Using a Magellan Sportrak Map, I did the navigating and my eagle-eyed wife spotted the micro container. This was Better Pizza-2 and I highly recommend it. We took some corn and fed the ducks. A very scenic area that should serve as a model for corporate america. Also, thanks to BITHEAD for assistance in getting started as an expert navigator! This is a wonderful sport. Thanks Bill Clinton!

  18. I think I see my mistake. EasyGPS looks easy but that'll have to wait 'til I get home. Firewalls. Appreciate the help.
  19. Hello to all. I just purchased a new SporTrak Map and began reading the manual. I'm brand new to caching and GPS navigation. After reading the manual for an evening, I need to ask a question of someone who knows the Map. I'm at home and I've input my home coordinates. Now (I thought), I want to go caching. Surely there's a screen where I just input the cache co-ords, hit enter, and follow the arrow? But the manual doesn't seem to mention anything that simple. How do I put the coordinates from a cache in my zip code into the GPS and start the hunt? Thanks from a slightly confused wannabe cacher.
