  1. according to the garmin website, the 300, 400t, 450 and 450t all have 850 MB internal memory. are they wrong? I believe they are staing the REMAINING usable memory. But Garmin is not very clear on the factory internal memory on their units. I also beleive that the 450t has 4GB of Internal Memory and the 450 has about 1GB. That was the way it is with the Oregon 400 and 400t units. I don't have the 450 or the 450t, but if someone here who has either can hook up to their computers and click on "MYCOMPUTER" and look for the GPS unit and click on the "Properties" it will display the amount of memory on the unit as well as the capacity/size of their memory card installed if they installed one.
  2. I wnat to point out that the models that have th e't' in them have a little more to offer than just having pre-installed maps. They also have more internal, built-in factory memory. Some say it isn't a big deal since you can put in a larger memcard, but some like to have the option to load things on internal memory as well as on a card. Other than having pre-installed maps and a larger internal memory, I believe they are the same.
  3. Grasscatcher, Thanks for the quick answer.... Not the one I was hoping for... but it was, unfortunately.... the one I was expecting. Not much left to say except...... Gosh Darn it !!!!!!
  4. I pressed/held the On/Off button on my 76CSx too long and it did a total Reset of the unit. All my waypoint and "recently found" locations are gone. I have tried using an unerase program on the memory card but all the program can find are the various map images I have deleted. On the 76CSx... isn't everything stored on the Memcard ? Or is there some internal memory for the waypoints, etc. ? Any ideas or suggestions to help me recover them. I usually back up the unit/memcard before doing anything intensive, but this was completely unintentional and accidental. Thanks for any help.
  5. I thought all of the x50 units shared the same screen ?
  6. allory, Thanks for the heads up. Regards.
  7. Yes... I picked up some of the lifetime map update cards when they were around for $80 and still thought a good deal. And you are right about the 775t.... even though it's been out for a while it is still fetching over $300 for one. But the 775t includes BOTH the North American AND European maps AND has more internal/built-in memory than the other 7xx units.
  8. I have a Lifetime Update on my Garmin Nuvi775t and the Garmin website has just informed me that there are two brand new map updates available. City Navugator EUROPE v2011.10 City Navigator North America v2011.10 I have D/L the Europe Maps 3 times now and keeps coming up as corrupt. I'll keep trying. Anyone know what the MD2 file is for or what it does ?
  9. Yep... That did it ! I didn't realize the Wiki itself linked to the different version. Thanks for the help. Regards.
  10. Can anyone provide a link to the past Oregon 400t software updates including the most recent version 3.7 ? Thanks !
  11. allory, Thanks for the heads up on the new version. Regards
  12. Thanks for the comments. Makes me think I may want to wait for the "next generation" with few more enhancements to make it worth the big bucks to upgrade.

  14. I've already got an Oregon 400t but sort of like the camera idea on the 550t. But is it really worth it to pay the price to get the 550t ? What other advantages are there with the 550t over and above the 400t ?
  15. When Garmin released the Oregon 400 unit, they offered it in three different iterations: 400t = PreLoaded TOPO maps 400i = PreLoaded Inland Lake Maps 400c = PreLoaded Waterway Charts Has anyone seen any inidication that Garmin will offer these three different flavors with their newest 550 units ? All I've seen so far is the 550 and the 550t. The 550 has no preloaded maps of any sort and the 550t is preloaded with the TOPO maps. And the 550t comes with more internal factory memory as well.
  16. Regardless of the airline's official policy, the flight crew has the final say in-flight. But usually it goes the other way - airline says it's OK, flight crew asks that you not do it. I flew Southwest and in their booklet it lists all the things you can and can't operate above 10,000 feet. It said a GPS is OK to use above 10,000 ft. And I agree... it is up to the Captin & Flight crew and they can impose stricter rules... but they can't relax the rules if it's dictated by the FAA. They didn't even give me a second glance when I pulled my GPS unit out and sat it on my tray.
  17. Of course I had to shut it off before I onto the plane, so it lost it's location and probably had to work harder to figure out where it was. A couple of times it did see a couple of Birds, but a pretty low signal and it never saw more than two at once. So... never got a lock. I didn't think of an external antenna, it may have helped, but I don't think the other two people in my row would want the cable drapped across their laps to the window..... I thought for sure I'd get a hassle going thru security... but not at all. I travel with my CPAP machine too and I got a LOT more attention for carrying that thing. Besides my CPAP, I had an entire bag filled with electronics..... I had a Handheld VHF radio, a three pack of the FRS handhelds, two gps units, the entire eneloop charging kit with all the batteries, chargers for the FRS radios and VHF and binoculars. It looked like a "James Bond" kit. They never even bothered to open up the bag to look. I guess they could tell exactly what everything was with the x-ray machine. But they sure wanted the CPAP out of the bag so they could swab it. But that's SOP for those.
  18. I just took a plane ride from Vegas to Baltimore and had a 76CSx and an Oregon 400t along. I was excited to think I'd be able to track our speed, course and progress on the GPS. But I was wrong... I was in the aisle seat and could not get a satellite acquisition at all on either unit. Bummer.....
  19. I didn't think that any of the Garmin TOPO maps were locked. ( Regular or 24k) But I don't have any knowlwedge of the Nat.Geo maps.
  20. That's why I have the 76CSx. It's the same as the 60CSx, just in a different case and it FLOATS !!! How do you know that dropping it into the Erie Canal wasn't part of the plan to get a new gps? Now... WHY didn't I think of that.
  21. I use the Sanyo Eneloops and have been very happy with their performance. Plus, once they are charged, they hold their charge on the shelf for a long time. I always keep some extras pre-charged and no matter when I pull them out, they seem to have a full charge. I've gotten 10 hours out of a pair of them in a 76CSx WITH the backlight ( at 1/2) on all the time.
  22. That's why I have the 76CSx. It's the same as the 60CSx, just in a different case and it FLOATS !!! I do also have the 400t. I don't like the way the 400t does not lay flat due to it's round shape on the back. It makes it unusable to use on a boat where you have to lay the unit down on the console. And I have to agree with a previous poster that the screen on the 76CSx is GREAT. You can read it in ANY type of lighting compared to the 400t.
  23. myotis, Care to share what you had to do to make Norton play nice with the latest version ? Thanks.
  24. If anyone is interested.... Garmin has released new updates for their North American & European City Navigator Maps. Newest Versions = CNNA 2010.40 (North America) & CNE 2010.30 (Europe). If you have the lifetime update subscription, you can go and grab them now.
