  1. also so saving those cracker toys this year and all party bag tat that usually gets thrown away will be deposited in bag. Now looking out for special treasures too like a pretty shell etc
  2. great question Mrs Gunny and thanks to all replies - some great suggestions to add to our geocache ruck sack. So far we only going for level 2 difficulty so not so special agent kit needed but have had to have hand gel as my kids have got filthy and then ask for snacks - they love poking about and hands everywhere I also take sting relief for my kids as they often get nettle stings -( enthusiastic finding!) and a mini first aid kit which has been used but that is geocaching with kids.
  3. We started 2 weeks ago and now have 11 caches under our belt. We were introduced by friends - they told us about it last year when they stayed with us. This year she logged us in with an account and made us go on a hunt in our local park which is beautiful and showed us 2 caches. The kids and I were hooked. 1 cache on a pulley system behind a tree - 4m up and another in a wall. The next day my boys begged for more and I looked a bit more closely at the map of caches around us - there were loads!!! We chose another walk and off we went with our geocaching teachers who taught us the rules and respect for the game. I love walking my dogs in new places and I really love that my kids beg to come with me if geocache is mentioned. The dogs love it too!
  4. I'm very new to geocaching but hooked - and so are the kids. With 2 dogs to be walked I love I'm entertaining my kids and exercising everyone. However my smartphone is terrible and I've discovered it does not have a compass or teh hardware to install one and so I struggle to find the exact co-ordinates. I need to keep my phone but plan to buy a gps - I'm on a strict budget/ money is tight - I looked online and gasped at the prices. Please advise - I'd like one with direction to follow, great at pin pointing co-ordinates in woods and can tell me how far away and can plot a course. Something that gets us to the exact spot with good graphics that my kids can follow and understand too. 70-100 pounds max - but price does matter Many thanks for your help
  5. We leave what we would like to find - my kids LOVE a cache with any objects but still just happy with a log book - we leave OK things for kids that we know they would like or something interesting - I have my cache drawer now and collecting lovely things that make the cache better for kids or just to find - isn't that good manners and value the hider - they have after all given us a good hunt? Personally although I know food is a big no no - that nights tea would be a plus )
  6. Just joined 2 weeks ago - some friends introduced us to it and we are hooked and no I'd never heard about it. Now seeing fellow cachers gathering around caches we have found and amazed I never worked it out before as a keen dog walker and runner - my local park is full of them. Found 10 in 2 weeks as I'm out and about with kids and dogs - lovely to widen walks and runs... 'we are hooked and yes I'm recommending them to muggles I know would love it but can appreciate the need for rules and respect for the activity.
