    Saskatchewan

More and more Sask cachers coming out of the winter hibernation. That is great, the more the better. Should be a good summer for caching, more placed and more found. Looking forward to having a great summer. I just recently downloaded nRoute to go along with my Mapsource Metroguide, now I am getting familiar with GSAK for caching. Hook my GPSr up to the laptop and hit the road. Should be fun seeking and hiding things this summer.
  2. When I close GSAK I get a pop-up screen telling me 'error #2 - file not found'. This happens when I click yes to backup databases and setting when I close the programs. It is indicating that it can't find the 'icon.cds' file, I did a search on my computer and it doesn't exist anywhere. Was this file suppose to be created when I installed GSAK?
  3. I thought I would try a query that would only run once to see if the system emailed it to me or not. It never worked and I also selected a few different things on the query like container size, the type of cache and from my local postal code. The preview shows the results of the query but my email inbox is still empty. The bulk email setting for the ISP and the spam blocker is set up to allow emails through from geocaching.com. Is the system that emails the queries out to the users using geocaching.com at the end of the address to comes from?
  4. Oh man, customs again. I thought the border was only closed to Canadian beef going to the US not ZIP file coming into Canada. Thanks for your help.

    Pocket Queries

Yes I did and I also created another topic on this and it is getting a few replies but still no pocket queries in my email. I created a query last night and selected it to run again today but there is nothing in my email. Thanks for the reply.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I am using the ZIP files, my local service provider email SaskTel and the pocket query is for the caches in the province of Saskatchewan and another for the caches in Manitoba. The preview results are showing up just fine, all caches in Manitoba and Saskatchewan are showing up correctly. I only have one email address and that is what I used to register with Geocaching. I even tried the alternate email and entered the one email I have. I also selected the days I want the queries generated, one last night and one today but the only email I had was one telling me there was a reply on this topic.
  8. I have just recently added to the number of premium members and tried the pocket query system. I still have not received an email with the results of the pocket queries I created and it has been almost a hour. The system tells me the results were created but I have no email with teh ZIP file attached. How long to I have to wait or did I do something wrong. I clicked on the day of the week I wanted the query generated and picked Friday and Saturday. How come I don't have anything for Friday when the system tells me it was created?

    Pocket Queries

How long do I have to wait for a PQ to be emailed to me? I am a new premium member and haven't found any information about the length of time it takes for the PQ results to be emailed to me. I created a few pocket queries tonight and the last one indicated it was created about 30 minutes ago and I still have no email with the results. Please help.
  10. I have a newer Garmin Etrex Legend and also just recently downloaded nRoute software with Metroguide maps. The legend GPSr has many options for external connections including NMEA. I just bought this unit in July of 2004 and it has NMEA. I can't see how any GPS manufacturer would drop NMEA when it is a stadard protocol. nRoute software has all the screens on your GPSr on the much larger screen of the laptop, autorouting, voice directions and runs great. I have used EasyGPS as well and it works well with NMEA and my Legend. The Legend comes doesn't use a USB cable to connect to the computer and I had to pick up a USB to serial port adapter, this combination works very, very well.
  11. I just recently tried the nRoute software from Garmin and was really impressed. It was a free download from Garmin because I have the Mapsource MetroGuide. The nRoute program is part of the pacakage for the GPS 18 system for laptop computers but works with the current GPSr I use. I have a Garmin Etrex Legend and hooked it up to my laptop running the nRoute software. This program was very impressive and gave me more information than I thought it would. So if you are able to use a laptop and have the GPSr connected to it, you have it made. Driving directions, waypoints, Mapsource maps and speech instructions.

Sorry to hear that it was declined, the guidelines have changed and the picture quality has to be good enough to at least identify the cacher. Been there, done that with my cache. I found out a lot of information in a hurry about webcam caches and getting one approved. We hope to have more regular caches placed this spring in southern SK so more cachers driving past on the Trans Canada can take a break and stretch their legs.

Great news, the first geocache webcam in Saskatchewan has been approved. This webcam is located at the U. of S. and is the property of the university, I have no control of this webcam. Although I live in southern Saskatchewan it was approved partly because I travel a lot around the province and I am through Saskatoon several times a year. I also have an email contact at the university and with their permission was able to list this one as a geocache. Sorry bigmuddy, i am not much of a pioneer with webcams, I would like one of my own but haven't been able to get around to buying one just yet. I don't think there would be too much to it once you have the camera. There is probably lots of information online about how to get one set up and working. The first webcam geocache in Saskatchewan is not ready to be visited and logged, enjoy. GCMMZ8

The webcam cache I was waiting approval on has been declined. I am very disappointed this webcam cache was not approved since it would have been the first one in Saskatchewan. Everything was explained very well in the guidelines and by the approver but even with my examples of webcams that have worse clarity, this webcam was declined. So much for the first webcam in Saskatchewan at this time. Maybe someone else out there knows of a better camera location for the first webcam cache in SK. I have given up on webcam caches in SK because of the double standard I have been shown in approving caches like this. Very disappointed

I am awaiting approval of the very first webcam cache in Saskatchewan. There are very few in Canada when looking in a search on Geocaching.com, hopefully another on can be added and right here in Saskatchewan.

    Edmonton

Thinks Edmonton is flat, I guess he spent all his time at the mall. We were there in November and was surprised at the number of caches in the surrounding area. It is such a beautiful city and all the caches in the river valley could keep a cacher busy for quite some time.

SK cacher here in south eastern SK about 125 kms east of Regina. Finder of a few caches so far and owner of one so far. I plan on placing more along the wonderful views of the Qu'Appelle Valley. SuzyQ and myself now have travel bugs we received for Christmas that we will send out on a jouney in the spring. I have contacted John Gormley and Murray Wood with 650 CKOM (Saskatoon), 980 CJME (Regina) to inform them that the second geocache in Canada is located in SK and it is the very first geocache in SK. I hope they would do a show about Geocaching in Saskatchewan and get more people involved, finding and placing. Keep on caching in Saskacachewan . Our cache is 'The Poplar Place', first we have placed but more to come soon.

  19. We will be in the Black Hills area in two weeks and would like to do some caching in that area. I see there is quite a few close by the area. We will be driving a smaller car so we would like to get some information. We are wondering what are some of the more accessable caches in the area that we would be able to get to with not problem in a smaller car? We are looking forward to our first trip to the Black Hills area and caching in the area.

  21. Found a Canadian benchmark but there is not way of logging the find on Geocaching yet? It would be nice to be able to, like we can for the ones in the U.S. Until then we can verify but not log them at this site I guess. http://www.geod.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e/index_e.html
  22. Found a site with some information, it makes a difference when you have a better idea what to search for at the search engine web sites. Thanks for the reply. http://www.geod.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e/index_e.html
  23. While looking over a site to place a cache we came across a survey benchmark. I looked in many places online to find a place to log this as a find but was unable to find anything about it. There is nothing in Geocaching for this one, is the benchmarks in Geocaching.com all USGS? It was an easy find, right beside a major highway at a rest stop and it is in very good shape. I have to return to get a more accurate GPSr reading on this one.
  24. Yes it does have three digits after the decimal. It will do DEG.MIN.MM, DEG.MIN.MMM and DEG.MIN.SEC.
