  1. Sounds like Shingles? At least from the way I read it. Have you ever had ChickenPox? I'm told the virus stays in your body and can reappear as Shingles. Rash, pain, etc.
  2. I'm testing the waters trying to come up with a polymer clay coin/signature item to use when caching. I bought a few different packs of clay and experimented with one of them today. On a scale of 1-10 about a conservative 5.... maybe!! I know I made these too darned thick thinking they would shrink when baked, but if they did it wasn't much. Due to the size of the one main one I did, I only got one large one and a couple of small ones from one pack of clay. My purpose today was just to see how hand lettering them wouild go and how a compass rose rubber stamp would work. My question to you folks who have a lot more expertise and experience in this than I do is this......... How thick do you roll the clay out on average before you cut the shapes for your coins/tokens/etc.??? I rolled it to 1/4 inch today. Looked like darned red cookies.
  3. This is nice!!! Now if I could just justify coming to Norway to find one???? Honey!!!! Oh, Honey!!!!!! I need to .........
  4. Sgt. Shultz on Hogan's Hereos said "I know nothing". It was the Arte Johnson character Wolfgang on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In who said "Verrry Interesting". You are right!! My apologies.......
  5. Just how this ends up playing out in the courts is going to be, as Artie Johnson on Rowan & Martin Laughin used to say, "very interesting." If he's only gotten charged with the one count, which I believe is a misdemeanor, it may not end up in court. Don't know about NY, but NC, a charge like this upon conviction and no appreciable prior record is going to be probation at the most. That bites I know, but that's about all that can be reasonably expected to happen. Edited to correct the person attributed to this. Thanks for setting me straight folks! I appreciate it!!
  6. What are these made of? Probably my "fuzzy" eyes, but they look like leather?
  7. When I first read the original post on this, my first thought was it's not a winnable charge. Why? Because to have a reasonably good chance at winning a case like this, it would have to be convincingly shown he had intent to deprive someone of the use of the piece of property. Not easy to do when it's known that people routinely retrieve a cache, especially a micro, and go somewhere less obvious to do the needed log work. He could easily explain his running away as an attempt to evade someone he thought were "muggles." Granted, running away is a bit of a strange way of doing it, but "strangeness" is not a violation of law. Howver, reading further on, I see there were other caches, logs, etc. found in his car. That would go a really long way in negating a claim he was merely trying to get to somewhere less viewable to sign a log. It's easy to explain away one or two, but any more than that and intent starts to rear it's ugly head. As I read this, I was beginning to have a hunch/thought/suspiciion about this person that he just might see himself as protecting the environment from the harm people tramping through the woods and fields might inflict. You know, an if the caches aren't there no one will walk through creating trails and leaving trash kind of thing. Sort of an ELF type if you're familiar with them. Then I saw Briansnat had come to the same conclusion. From what little bit I've read here about the long time this has been going on in that area and the number of caches involved, I would have to say this was, and still is, a little more than a random act by a bored person with a chip on his shoulder. I'd be really interested in seeing if there has been this type of pattern of behavior anywhere else.
  8. ACD? Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal. Means that they put the charges off for a period of time and if you are a good boy or girl they seal the records and let you get on with life as if it never happened. Which is called a P J C in North Carolina! Prayer for Judgement Coninued Different term, but means the same thing. Probably a few more terms in other states!! ??
  9. Some good ideas here! I'd never thought about leaving an actual coin. I'd thought about pathtags, but that's , at least for me, a significant outlay of funds to get them. I'd thought about wooden nickels as well as something like custom imprinted things like keychains. The big consideration there is the rather large minimum amounts that you have to buy to get them made as well as set up fees, etc. The Fimo thing has possibilities. Beyond knowing what it is, I have no experience with it, nor do I know anyone who does. Anybody know of any links, etc. to using it that I could pursue?
  10. Yes, it's called GCVote. You can't rate a person (owner) there, but the individual geocache, which makes much more sense. GermanSailor I just looked at GCVote. From my initial read, it appears you have to download and install a plug in on your computer to get it to work. Also, the plug in is/was designed to work with FireFox, I believe it was, and you may have to download another plug in and/or change GCVote's script to get it to work with IE or other browsers. That doesn't sound too good if you have to download something to get it to work. It would be a whole lot better if it worked just from the site without having to use plug ins. They have a tendency at times to cause problems it seems. I would want something that you didn't have to do all that to be able to use it. In other words...... K I S S Keep It Simple Stupid The stupid is used to refer to the person trying to use it, not you my friend!!
  11. A suggestion for someone who might be considering getting signature cards. ??? While I'm not familiar with what size a "signature card" is, how would something like an Amateur/Ham Radio QSL card work? Some of those are quite involved and some are rudimentary. They are postcard sized give or take and can be obtained pretty easily in a wide range of prices, features, etc. Check any amateur rado site for links to people who make them. I just "Googled" "qsl cards" and got a whole string of possibles.
  12. Here you go!! wow, this are too cool! rsg Note here: DO NOT think I did this....... I only put the picture up since jjumk said they didn't know how! jjunk deserves all the credit which I must say is "well deserved."
  13. Ebay has something that I like to rate sellers. It's a "star" system where you rate the seller from 1-5 stars I think on a few important aspects of being a good seller. That concept would be easily adaptable to caches. IMHO!!! ????
  14. Dang..... You folks are GOOD! Is this mostly done in/with PhotoShop or another program?
  15. They make "briar proof" pants for folks hunting. They are usually made of a heavier weight duck type material with some type of tough material on the front of the leg portion. Expect something like leather, oilcloth, etc. Any store, website that sells outdoor and hunting supplies should have them.
  16. Any extra special caches in NC?? You know, the ones with something special. That wonderful view, or anything else that makes it stand out in your memory. It doesn't have to be especially hard to find and in fact some easy ones would be welcomed for folks who for whatever reason don't go for the "hard" ones.
  17. The more I read this thread, the more I like it! I was recently reading another thread where folks were carrying on about the decline in the quality of swag in caches. And while there's certainly some merit in what they say, this kind of thing should be welcomed, enjoyed, and encouraged. Is there some kind of arrangement in place, formal or non-formal, for trading and/or collecting these things??
  18. This is great! I just discovered it this morning. A casualty of my usually only looking at the few forum messages at the top of the pile. This definitely interests me. In fact, I was just this morning "drawing" something to scan in and use as my avatar. It just might work on a wooden coin or something similar. Keep it coming folks!!
  19. But the site is not "Proper English" it's American! Depends on which side of the pond you're on as to what's proper!!
  20. I wholeheartedly agree. My wife knew where I was that day and it was only about 10 minutes from my home driving and a good doable walk if not. But you're right 110%!!!
  21. Pray this seemingly ever present rain/precip cycle changes before then. If not, an island in the middle of the Catawba might be ticklish. I'm about the same distance the other side of Charlotte as you are on your side so I know.. Is there going to be some kind of transportation back and forth to the island for those non boat owners??
