  1. I look at it this way. If I revisit a cache with a friend after I have found it do I log another find? I realize that DNFs are not negative marks on your record, and all the other reasons to log them. If I didn't find it the first time I log it. Then I edit the log on each visit. Eventually changing the "Didn't find it" log to "found it", but with all the log stages recorded as they were added.
  2. Not explorist specific, but a general observation. All of my units like to be recalibrated when moved a long distance. You should be able to go into a setup menu, and tell the unit roughly where you are. That way it knows what satelites to look for. We cached on Maui in March. Both GPS's locked on right away with stronger signals than I ever get in PA. I never saw 7 sats locked on at once before. Don't forget to do the setup again when you get home.
  3. Darn it! Wish I hadn't clicked this post. Last year I placed bubbles, but didn't really consider how they would handle the cold. All thought of signature items faded.. until now. I think lucky fused glass geocoins might be the way I go. Too many options.....aaaaaaa
  4. If you are just getting started, try E-bay. I have purchased three GPSr's, and none of them cost more than $45US even with the shipping. They all work great, and get me where I need to be every time. I would just recommend sticking to a name brand like Garmin or Magellan. Before you commit to buy just check the GPS reviews at geocaching.com. They are reviewed by folks using them for geocaching, so you get an idea of how they perform. Why spend a lot of money until you know what features you really want or need. Once you get into the swing of things you will find out the features you will want on your next unit. Then, you can spend the big bucks.
  5. I have three caches pending for almost a month. One had an issue with proximity, which I was not informed of until I e-mailed the reviewer, but the other two checked out fine. I have permission to place them from the park etc. but they are not activated yet. I leave reviewer notes, but had not heard anything for a week. Bummer, because it was 60's and sunny all week here.
  6. Still available? I think I'd like a vista because the compas is built in. Just starting out, and the family is having a blast. We need something better than a Cobra 500 (junk). Anything included? cable? book etc.? grimaxe@hotmail.com or reply here with any info. Thanks
  7. definite interest. Just the legend right not the H C HC whatever. Send me a pic please. grimaxe@hotmail.com We're just starting out, and I think the family is hooked. I'm looking for something reliable, and my cheapie gets the job done, but I'd like something nicer. Matt
