  1. I found a wooden Coin with "GeoNickel #0944" stamped in it, and then printed on it has "Proud Member of Paul West - Right Wing Wacko", and some other stuff. Is this a trackable? I cand figure out how to find it so I can log I found it.

Can you find a unique code on it? If so, then it could very well be a trackable. If not, then it might be someone's signature item that they leave in caches they find.

  2. Hey guys,

My name's Jamie, and I run a site called Gymineer that I started about a year ago. Basically I try a new sport every week or two, make an interesting video about it, write a brief article about my adventure, and post it all on the site, with the purpose being to introduce people to new sports and show them how easy it is to access new ways to get out and have fun. You can check it out at www.gymineer.com for an idea of how it works.

Anyways, I am based out of Whitby, ON, and I am looking to try geocaching. I could just go do it on my own, but I thought it be a better idea to have an experienced geocacher take me and possibly a friend or two out to a couple caches in the area and make an experience out of it.

If you're interested, either respond here, or preferably, follow the "contact" tab on my site and get in touch with me.

    Thanks!

    PM sent

  3. If you're going to the islands here's an easy Virtual:

GCA2AA tt - Toronto Queens Quay

and a nice Earthcache that you can do while at the same spot: GC127DY Great Lakes – Lake Iroquois

Here are some downtown virtuals and Earthcaches that I enjoyed that are accessible by public transit

    Virtuals:

    GCBCA6 Multi-talented

    GC6C13 First Post - Toronto

    Earthcaches:

    GC250BB The Canadian Shield Clearing

GC251EC Casa on the Beach Multi-Earthcache (research the southern point before you arrive so you'll know where you have to go).

  4.

I am gonna go out on a limb and ask... Have you put any of my caches on your ignore list? Be honest, I can take it.

Answering that would mar the beauty of the Ignore List and its anonymity.

Not to mention the first step in a slippery slope of "How about me???" requests.

I wanna be on your list! :D Oh c'mon, pleeze, pleeze put me on your list. :) I would consider it a badge of honour! :D

Then again who's to say I'm not on it already? :)

  5. The difference between Global Climate Change and Geocaching is that one's a myth and one isn't. Please don't mix your myth with my reality. That is why I'm grateful for the "no agenda" guideline that will block any effort to intermix the two.

    Geocaching is a myth?

  6. Nicely on track for this challenge. Only one problem - we got no chance at FTF :D . We'll be doing a traditional in Hawaii on Family Day :) . At least we'll avoid the mob scene in the middle of the night. That should be funny. Take pics of all the FTF midnight maniacs. Fun challenge.............MPC :D

Aww shucks, so sorry to hear you will be out of town for the "Midnight Madness" event. Should anyone be crazy enough to show up - and who's to say anyone will - you'll be in everyone's shivering thoughts.

  7. I'm a newbie, and have several logged DNFs. I've been in large groups, so there were plenty of eyes, and we looked for a long time. I don't know the correct procedure for asking for more hints from the CO. Do I just give up, and go for easier caches, or keep at it hoping I will suddenly find it? Is it considered bad form to need help? Any responses will be appreciated

Don't give up. As a CO, I hide caches to be found and welcome anyone to ask for help. If a group of experienced cachers are unable to locate a cache that has been found frequently in the past, then it might be missing and a short note to the CO asking if they can check on it might result in their going out and checking if it is still there.

On many occasions, a "Needs Maintenance" note has been posted on some of my caches that clearly were missing (they probably go were the missing socks from the dryers go). The NM log gets my attention (as opposed to just sending me an email) and ensures I do something.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

  8. After finding a few caches I was inspired to hide my own. To be safe the first one I hid was/is an easy find and has had 123 finds so far - I still enjoy reading each and every log that is posted. Therefore my advice is to start with a cache that is relatively easy to find as I'm sure you'll enjoy reading the posted logs - this will in turn inspire you to hide another, and another and so on.

Find a spot that you enjoy visiting that you think other folks would like to visit, someplace with a nice view or a spot that is special to you for some personal reason and write about it. Believe it not, folks do read the text on the cache listing page.

Stay away from multis and mysteries until you have found a few because even seasoned cachers (cough-cough) make the occasional mistake in developing them. When you're ready to hide one of your own, don't be afraid to ask for help as that's why we lurk in the forums.

And finally, be sure your co-ordinates are good. Take a reading... walk away about 20 m, come back and take another reading. Then repeat this to be sure you have good numbers. Some cachers get easily frustrated when a new cacher posts the co-ordinates that are 50-60 m off.

Have fun and go for it!

  9. So, after August 19th, do we want to plan some big get-together for a mass signing of Tequila 81? :D

I'd love to meet up with some of y'all and celebrate. hehe

I've got my FTF, my T81 qualification will be complete this coming Saturday with the CITO, and the next week is our local CREW event. After that T81 will be my #700. What's everyone doing on the 21st? :(

The geek will be there with arms open (fully swathed in DEET) :D in anticipation of previously agreed to Diet Coke delivery. Getting mighty thirsty with these recent spells of high humidity. :P BTW, you arriving by public transit? ;)

  10. Woohoo!

ONE cache to go, now that I've found TBP.

Got my canoe booked for that cache August 20, and if everything goes to plan I'll be heading to log 81 Proof that evening!

Ummm... you need a canoe to get to T81? ;) Which route are you planning on taking? :P

  11. I found 4 different caches. I logged them as found just like the "getting started" section said. However, when i go to my profile, it says 0 found and 0 hidden. Maybe it just takes awhile to register, but can someone either confirm that or tell me how to solve the problem. Thanks

Forgive me for asking, but are you sure you selected "Found It" from the "log your visit" drop down box and not "Write note"?

  12. So frustrated. I have a Magellan explorist 210. It came with a geocaching manager which apparently doesn't work with windows 7. It worked fine on my old computer but now not so much. I'm not a techy so I don't really know any technical jargon, so in layman's terms, how can I put my pocket querry on my gps?

Try downloading and installing Magellan's VantagePoint software and see if that works. The eXplorist 210 is listed as one of the units compatible with VP.

  13. jeez, i think i've done 5 days straight ... but just because the wife insisted I go pick her up a washing machine 1000km away

Did you at least get 2 caches 1,000 km apart on the same day?

  14. Whatever it is that Juicepig is or isn't doing right, it would appear that first place is locked up - for the time being. :P

I've done some digging and by engaging in some reverse engineering I think I may be close to cracking the points algorithm.

Then it's just a matter of time before I figure out what these points are assigned to before proclaiming, "The geek shall inherit the earth!"

  15. I may be mistaken, but I don't think I am, but the ALR's are:

    1. Log finds on the 81 different D/T combos on caches published before April 8, 2008 (the date restriction doesn't apply to events or CITOs),

    2. Log finds on the 8 different cache types listed,

    3. Create a bookmark list or provide some other acceptable proof that you have met these requirements.

This is what I did to meet the requirements of this challenge cache. I know of no other Additional Logging Requirement required to meet this challenge.
