  1. Seems all they worry about is putting liquids in and letting liquids out. Sorry...I thought a little humor might ease tensions. Kenneth
  2. Yes they will be able to use a GPSr while hunting. They are not trying to stop hunters from hunting. The NRA could just cause more polarization too as they usually do with politics. I'd leave them out of it. Kenneth
  3. I think someone mentioned previously that maps drawn via coordinates do put the balloons. I tested the script with lordelph and it works great. He did all the work, I just used it. Greasemonkey scripts are wonderful and this won is now at the top of my list of scripts. lordelph, I've thanked you privately and now I thank you publicaly. Kenneth
  4. Why do people feel they can ignore the whole 'geocaching' part of the phrase and focus on the 'other location'? I've heard this get stretched out to banning using a GPSr relating to biking, rental cars, state and national forest employees, GIS employees, surveyors, and now even commercial flights. Come one folks. They are not going to ban those things. They are not trying to nor want to. It kinda makes us look like we have little common sense. Focus on what they are trying to do and lets hear input relatd to that. Early on there was alot of good discussion about gravesites, historic areas, and how they can be used for educational purposes when caching, etc. Lets please not post stuff just to post stuff. And looking for other ways to cache/letterbox/etc in those places if it gets banned will only make things worse for geocaching and letterboxing. You'll give them reasons to want to ban it statewide. I hope this bill dies and we can return to somewhat normal conditions. Kenneth
  5. Well...kinda strange twist of finding a cache watched by a webcam. I added a URL watch in my online RSS feeder (Newsgator) and one of the referring sites was a weblog of a cacher (amesnjas): blog posting. They mentioned have a cache watched by a webcam. Anyway..if you don't care to visit those links, here is the cache page: Runningman's Jungle Look in the logs and they give away the webcam page so you can see the location. Kenneth
  6. Yep. Get alot of them here: Google Siteseeing - Planes in Flight Mega-post Kenneth
  7. It amazes me the way that people stretch what they read. When they ammended it to state using a GPSr for playing games, people came out of the woodwork believing it would stop biking, hiking, etc. And stop USGS from using theirs to mark locations. Come on. Usually laws passed such as this do not apply to those who are officials who work in the area. Maybe I missed something, but from TinSparrow's update, it sounded like there was a move toward allowing caches if permission is given. And then some of the following messages were very negative. Let's not give them more text to make cachers appear to be unreasonable or childish. Maybe some people came to the thread late, but some info in the update is a drastic improvement from where things started out. I'm not trying to censor anyone here...just trying to prevent things from getting worse. Just make sure you take a deep breath before posting and re-read what you are about to post before posting it. Kenneth
  8. Don't try reading into something more than is there. It clearly states first "the activity of hiding a geocache container....AND....". They aren't going after the placing of coordinates on a website. Interesting that another poster mentions the fact the wording says "hiding....for the challenge of participants.....to locate the geocache". As worded, it could be said that only the hider could/would be prosecuted. I know...stretching it a bit, but lawyers use loopholes like that alot. However, this doesn't make you feel much better when you've already been charged and have to go to court to prove yourself not guilty. Kenneth
  9. I didn't know that, but it doesn't help if you have not read any messages in the thread. A new GSAK users would have to read all 16 pages of the thread. I think that is the concern. Kenneth
  10. You can do that with GSAK. GSAK Main Webpage Might be some other ways too, but GSAK will be the easiest. Kenneth
  11. Then pay the extra to have it shipped Next Day. Glad your post was informative for us all. Kenneth
  12. Here Thanks. Duh...I knew this cache was familiar as I had a TB in it closed to the time it was archived. I didn't put 2&2 together that this was the same one that started the mess. Kenneth
  13. Does anyone have a link to the WDW TB Hotel Cache? It is sad. Kenneth
  14. A link to the other thread would be nice. Anybody?? Kenneth
  15. Maybe recheck the White House. The roof of it and buildings on each side look odd to me. Like maybe they did a little editing??? Strange the Pentagon appears clear. Maybe it isn't the real one but a model superimposed over....or the Pentagon isn't really where we think it is. Kenneth
  16. Cheeseheads beat you to it...two posts back. But you get points for including links again to make it fast for people to find it. ;-) Kenneth
  17. I haven't had the time to explore it, but if your using Firefox, you can plot waypoints to Google maps from an XML file using GreaseMonkey scripts. If someone wants to figure it out, check out this (look for Google Maps: Plot Points): Google and Gmail Scripts Post back if you find a way to use GPX files or such....or anything. Kenneth
  18. I have a MeriYellow and it does not need to use the SD slot out of the box. The SD card gives you the capabilities to add additional maps, routes, and waypoints on your system. Not to mention you can load all those onto the SD card using your PC and then put it in the GPSr for use. No serial cable and slow transfers. The greatest part of having an SD card is being able to store as many waypoints as you want in different files and loading them in as you want. I have about 10 different waypoint files on my SD card and about 5 detail maps. Also, I have had to do a full reset in the field of my unit and then was able to just load the waypoints back in from SD and keep on caching. Otherwise, my day would have been over and I would have to go home to reload my waypoints. I have a 256MB SD and it is more than enough for me. If you travel alot and want more detail maps of various places on the card then you might want to look at 512MB or larger. I haven't kept up with the max size limitations with the latest firmwares. Anybody else know the SD card size limitation with the latest firmware? Kenneth
  19. acidburnche, Sorry about your illness. Glad you are well enough to get back online. Keep getting better and get out there cachin'! Kenneth
  20. That seems a bit flawed, since a bookmark list size is limited. You'll soon hit the limit on your "done" list. Since the system keeps track of your "done" caches already, why not just delete them off your "to do" list? True...but what if you have a ToDo bookmark list and after you do it, you want to move it to your Watchlist or say "My Favorite Caches"? Kenneth
  21. Don't think there is freeware for the GPSr. Maybe you mean to use with the GPSr. If you mean for loading waypoints into it, then there are quite a few. You can find such programs and PocketPC software on the Geocaching.com website. From the Main page, select Resources, Geocaching Software. Or quickly go there by this link: Waypoints. Sorry for the point to url, but the geocaching.com website has put alot of the info there for you to find if you look around first. Have fun and don't spend too much time monkeying with all that software. Balance it out with getting out and caching. Kenneth
  22. That was why... Hmmm...checking his profile, he has logged into GC.COM on March 7th. Havrix, has he responded? If not, I have an alternate plan for you (I've used it myself). Take the duplicate tag, put it on another item and release it again. I'll even go further and if you ship it to me in Atlanta, Ga I'll make sure it makes it either to the same cache it was in or one near there. Alternately I know someone in SC who would most likely receive it and do the same. Let me know. Kenneth
  23. Well I use MapPoint and it is similar to S&T. Does S&T have a "Find Nearby Places" feature? If it does, use it and extend the search radius around the caching area you want to hunt. Select your data set and you'll have a list of all the caches in the radius. If you select one, it shows the balloon on the map. Unfortunately it doesn't work in reverse where you click a pushpin and it highlight the cache name. But pressing the F8 key like Hard Oiler mentions works great for it. Kenneth
  24. I'm surprised no one has mentioned making it open source or at least the capabilities to add your own modules/forms to the unit. How far along would the Palm or PocketPC have gotten if you couldn't add programs to them? That way I could write my own routines to display info on the screen. Some current units allow customization of displayed content and that is nice, but we need more. Give us libraries, forms, whatever. Kenneth P.s. I'll also echo... more room for descriptions (support GPX on units) and IR sync for other devices, especially GPSr to GPSr.
