  1. Ah noncentric - the difference being - which I mention in my OP - is that if people contact me I reply and help - more than happy to do that - and that is my issue - I have possibly solved a puzzle that is in the centre of Bristol - apparently in someone's front garden - it may be the COs - I have no idea, but I am really not going to go and rummage in a garden in the possibility of my co ords being correct, without being able to check them. That isn't the only example, but just one. And I solve puzzles all over the country, just not just where I know the area... I love puzzles, I have done many and have a few, but find it frustrating when COs don't reply to requests for help...
  2. Can we please have the requirement that all puzzle caches have to have a geochecker on the page to check cordinates? I have many puzzles solved that I haven't gone to find due to not being certain I have the correct co ords, no geochecker on the page and no response from the CO. I am sure I'm no the only one who has an issue with this! Well I know I'm not
  3. Sorry for this post - I am sure this has been discussed elsewhere but I can't find anything. I was told that a lacky has given a way to find waypoints on the original app to remove before it goes AWOL. I have a few (luckily not many) solved puzzle caches where I put in the cache position as a waypoint, how do I find them, as they are all over the country, in places I planned on visiting?
  4. I too have just had this happen - hubby and I put 2 camper van TBs out for a race, mine was picked up by a very enthusiastic couple who had just started geocaching. (You know where this is going don't you?). They took it off on their honeymoon, bought it back to the UK and obviously found things to do that were more interesting than geocaching, being newly-weds and it had staying in their coat pocket since June 2014. I contacted them a few times, politely, to no avail. Imagine my surprise this week when it resurfaced, they too had dumped it in a cache. At least they didn't bin it!
  5. I don't know whether other countries have similar issues, but in the UK we have started to see a large number of COs who have virtually no finds and are causing issues. A very local example was a cacher who had 3 finds, then put out a cache. It was there for a few months then started getting DNFs due to cache being destroyed. In November the CO posted a 'disable' note and there it sat. Finally, this month I posted a NA as the CO still only had 3 finds and hadn't logged on since his disable note. He finally archived it. The main point of my post is, despite trying to keep geocaching as rule free as possible, I (and many others I have spoken to) feel that to become a CO you should have a certain number of finds prior to placing. With the free app (and don't get me started on that!!) huge numbers of people are just 'having a go' for a couple of weeks then not bothering, which is fine as long as they haven't started putting caches out! Thoughts anyone??
  6. I have a TB that was taken to an event and now appears in it's inventory - along with loads of others. How does this work? Did who ever have it take it and hand it to someone else? If it gets stuck how do I find who has it? Never come across this before! Thanks
  7. Thanks for the replies. I didn't remove it because I was confused as to what was going on - it wasn't showing up on my phone as a cache, as I have done all the ones in my area, and it hadn't been found for nearly a year (when they are usually found slightly more often than that in my area!). I then came home and checked by hiders name (that info was on the cache but not the GC code) and found that they have a huge number of archived ones, I think they must have just eased off. On many of their other ones they have stated that they have removed the cache, or if there was a reason for it being archived (access problems etc) that was on there, but no reason on this one and it is on a public footpath in the middle of nowhere. So I am certain it is archived, I just wondered if there were any way of finding out where others were, but now I know there isn't. Thanks!!
  8. Is there a list anywhere that tells you of archived caches in your area? The reason I ask is that I came up with a brilliant place to put a cache today, did it all, went to actually put it in place and whilst walking to GZ spotted an archived one hiding (albeit not very well) in the bushes. Now foolishly I didn't pick this up as I had no idea of the etiquette of removing someone one elses cache, but spoke to hubby who reckons I will have to go and remove it otherwise people will possibly find it thinking it is mine, which could get confusing. Had I known there had been one there before I would have checked the area first. So is there a list anywhere?
  9. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and couldn't find anything. Simple question: Do virtual caches still have to be a set distance from other traditional/and or virtual ones?
  10. Personally as a relative newbie I wouldn't have considered placing one until I knew a little about finding some. In fact my husband in the ridiculous position of having a cache placed and with the reviewer but it can't go anywhere as there is one already in the system 60 feet away. This has been 'placed' (not yet published) by a person who has placed none, found none, and logged on once in October to, presumably, hide it. It is VERY frustrating as it is a really good place and he isn't answering emails...
  11. So it is, thank you very much! A very happy (it doesn't take much)
  12. Hi, can someone explain how I can get a map on a TB page to show where it has been? I saw this recently on a page and really want one!!
  13. And how many people geocache with a smart phone with a QR reader? (OK, I do) if you are out using a GPS surely all this will be irrelevant? And if it in the middle of a wood (or in most of the villages near where I live) even if you have a smart phone with QR reader you can't get a connection... Just my three p!!
  14. I recently found one of these and it was on a bungee rope and a 'tool' to help pull it down hidden in a nearby tree (with a clue, obviously). Worked really well....
  15. I have been reading this with interest, and forgive me if this is a silly question, but I am a newbie! Why do we have the option of 'discovering' TBs at all? Surely the point of being a TB is the T bit, and just finding it in a cache and not moving it (for whatever reason) makes it just another bit of swag? There is nothing to stop people logging in their comment that they have seen it (that way it is still kept track of) but why log a 'seen it'? If the only options were retrieved, visited and dropped off we wouldn't have this problem. Or am I missing something?
  16. to put a GC TB into a Wherigo? I am about to go off and do my first Wherigo - I have no idea what I will find - are they purely logs or do they have TBs and swaps in them? Assuming the latter (unless someone tells me otherwise) is it de rigueur to put a GC TB into one and vice versa (assuming I am not told they don't have them in which case this entire thread is meaningless!) 17. I want to ignore certain caches - such as DNFs - but may want to go back to themm later - I can find an ignore button but is there an 'unignore' button anywhere - or once ignored are they gone for ever?
  18. I have done everything suggested and I can't get it to work. It shows up on my profile, but doesn't appear on my posts. I've logged out and in again, still nothing. Logged out and in of What/Where? Your user name and password are the same for Geocaching.com and the Forum, but they are NOT the same log in. Did you log out and back in to the FORUM? Yay! Sorted, Thank you very much
  19. I have done everything suggested and I can't get it to work. It shows up on my profile, but doesn't appear on my posts. I've logged out and in again, still nothing.
  20. Well not best, but something that has certainly made me more wary, sticking your hand under a hedge for a scrabble around and coming out with an 8" knife was certainly a surprise!
  21. Hubby and I are newbies and enjoying this immensly, however it would be nice to find a couple of people in the area where we live, simply for a few hints and tips or quick discussion now and again. Nothing heavy, or regular. How do we meet people? I know about the events but there are non planned in our area at the moment. Any suggestions? We are in WSM, Somerset, UK...
  22. I have this problem - I have only just started and I have logged two twice (IYSWIM) although I go in to delete one it doesn't work. Not the end of the world, but niggling me! Just had a thought, do I have to delete on my phone, as they were logged on there? I have been trying to do it on my computer...
