  1. IMO the best option, based on your criteria, is to buy one of the older high accuracy GPS units. i.e. The Garmin eTrex Venture HC. If battery life is more important than cost, then the eTrex Legend (or Vista) HCX. I have a GPSMap 60CS but I was looking to supplement it with something on my iPod. I would like to have everything (waypoints, tracks, cach info, etc) right on my ipod and be able to look at it with the big color screen, as well. I do have a standard GPS as a back up, however. And, battery life isnt THAT important to me, I just dont want something that will run out after an hour. Thanks! You can buy/make external battery packs for the ipod touch, by the way, so that it can run on AA's. My biggest concern with using the ipod touch would be it's lack of waterproofness/durability if dropped. Maybe find some way to attach a lanyard to it or something at least. Well thats one thing I was thinking, as well. If I got a bluetooth receiver I could have that attached to my backpack or somewhere and leave my iPod in my pocket most of the time, and still keep a signal. I would definitely find a harder case or lanyard, as well, though.

  3. Hey! I have an iPod Touch 2G and was thinking about getting a GPS set up on it so I could use it hiking and geocaching. I've seen a few different ways that this can be done including the iGPS360 module and other bluetooth GPS receivers but what does everyone think? What is the easiest, most cost-effective and most "productive" way of doing this (productive meaning, best signal, accuracy, battery life, etc). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Ryan
  4. I saw that, got your payment and should be shipping it out via UPS today! The eTrex is a great unit. It was actually my first, too. Congratulations!
  5. I'm not exactly sure. It'd probably be a little more but we could work that out if you wanted/won it. I'm gonna say no more that $15, depending on where you are in Canada. Check it out here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=190253352592 Only about a day left! And now there's no time left . . . and I won! (Woo-hoo!) Awesome! An invoice has been sent to you.

  7. Had to relist it. Check here now... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=190253352592
  8. The loose wire connection is a problem that's pretty common with all Garmin eTrex models. It could happen with any used or new one. Garmin does fix it but unfortunately not for free. I've also heard of people that fix it themselves. Here are a few other posts with info on that problem: Same exact issue. Just bang it on your hand...it's just one of those things about a Legend. I've been banginng mine into shape for about 3 years and it still works like a champ, just not the screen on occasion. The list goes on...It's an eTrex thing. The Cx is different. It has a little more than the regular eTrex. Finally, shipping to Canada would probably be a little more. I'm not exactly sure how much but if you're interested, I can find out no problem. Thanks for your interest! Ryan
  9. I decided to put it up here, if anyone's interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=190250684437
  10. If anyone is interested, I am selling my current GPS, a Garmin eTrex Legend. It's under two years old and is in great condition. No big scratches on the screen, nothing's falling off and it works great. I'm just looking to get rid of it so I can upgrade to something a little more. It's a great GPS, though. I purchased it for $150 so if I could get $85 back for it, I'd be really happy. E-Mail me at rpwichelns@seusaoutdoors.org or contact me through Geocaching.com if you're interested. I have photos, too. Thanks!
  11. If you're still looking for one, I might have one for you. I'm 14 and am looking for an upgrade to my Garmin eTrex Legend and would like to get rid of it. Great condition. I'm gonna say $80 - $100 for what I got for $150. E-Mail me at rpwichelns@seusaoutdoors.org of AIM me at ADKSherpa5344 if you're interested. =]
  12. Thanks for the help, everyone. I'll see what I can do. Either way, I think I'd like to upgrade it. Like I said, other than that, it's in good condition. Think I could get rid of it on these forums, even with the way the screen is?
  13. I've had my Garmin eTrex Legend for almost 2 years now and over the past few months, I've had problems. It turns on and works fine probably 50% if the time but other times I get lines across the screen when it's on. You can tell that the GPS part of it still works, just not the screen. I can just barely make out whats actually supposed to be on the screen behind and inside the lines (Yeah, this is somewhat hard to explain). Other times it just wont turn on. Or does is not display anything? I don't know but I'm having problems with it. Because It's almost 2 years old, the Warranty is up and to get it fixed, I have to pay like 70-80 dollars. I was wondering if anyone else had issues like this and if anyone knew of anything I could do. If there's nothing I can do, I will not be getting it repaired and would like to get a rid of this unit and get something like a GPSMAP or something. Other than the screen problems, it's in very good condition for 2 years old. The screen itself doesn't have any big scratches in it, all the buttons work, etc. Anyone think I could get rid of it on here to get some money to support a new GPS? For a 14 year old, I don't just HAVE the money for a nice new unit. Thanks.
  14. How would I do that? The cable didnt come with any software, only a driver.
  15. I have a Garmin eTrex Legend but my computer doesn't have a serial port to attach it to and transfer waypoints, maps, etc. I just got a 3rd party Serial to USB cable, just like the one Garmin sells for its units, but can't find a way to get MapSource to recognize it. I've tried both drivers, the one that came with the cable and the Garmin one but cant get it to work! Does anyone know if theres a way to make this work? I really appreciate the help. Thanks a ton!
  16. Hey, thats me! If you like the idea, feel free to spread it around (other forums, etc). We could really use the publicity. Thanks!
  17. Ok, now I see them. As of now, they are small enough and because they are in the right side column, are not taking the place of anything. But they were just introduced so give them a chance.
  18. Is it possible to disable or archive a travel bug, just like a cache? For example, I have a travel bug that was washed away in a cache in Rhode Island, and is now at the bottom of Narragansett Bay. The cache owner replaced the cache, so if I hadnt done something, it would have been logged in that cache forever and not really be there. I was smart enough to get the spare tag and say that I had it before I started getting e-mails saying it was missing. Is there a way to just archive and get rid of it? If not, should there be?
  19. Hmm, this reminds me of this cache. I guess it would (at least in my opinion). Although they nolonger exist, it would be the same as Virtual Caches and things like that. The First to Find is the first to find the cache, even if theyre have been other muggles there before, they havent found the cache, whether its a real container or not.
  20. I don't mean to sound snarky, but the ads themselves are objectionable. No other web site makes paid subscribers look at commercials. Please restrict these to non-paying members. Honestly, I dont think they're too bad. They all have something to do with geocaching and nothing I've seen is "objectionable". Although getting rid of them would be nice, as an creator and owner of another geocaching website, I know it can be hard. They're a good source of income. If more people would become premium members, mabey you wouldn't need them, but right now I dont have any problem with them and I havent seen anyone else have any problems with them.
  21. As they said above, you cant be sure when youre out there if there is already a cache within .1 miles. So what I do is, if I see a cool spot, I mark it, go home and check for nearby caches, than get the container ready and place it. Once thats all done I post it on the website and get it approved.
  22. I've been working at getting my 100th cache since July 2006. I was wondering what the average amount of time it takes people to get that milestone. If you know me, I am still in Middle School and do a lot of extracurrecular stuff. Whats it take others like me? I've been really working at it though.
  23. There's things like PodCacher out there. They are like a Geocaching Magazing but in audio format. No actual written words. But, they do the same thing. To make a magazing you would need to do the same thing as theyre doing but write it down. And who says it has to be a huge 100 page book. Something small. I know I'd buy it.
  24. Congrats and welcome! Be prepared for MUCH, MUCH more!
