  1. I wonder if everyone freaking out about this and sharing it with their Facebook groups is making the problem even worse?
  2. I rented a car last weekend in Vallejo after taking a school van to American Canyon for a conference. After driving up to Eureka and back down to Monterey, I found the last 16 caches I needed and am qualified to find this bad boy. On my way back from Derby Acres this morning, I signed the log and I just claimed my find. That was an epic five year journey. Who is next?
  3. LOL. You must be a lot of fun at parties. LOL. His buddy bricks was there on the same day and made a C and I can see their white truck in the same photos, so I am not sweating it. The bigger question is why do you care that one person took a selfie that day and didn't make the C? How does it change your experience? Or is it you think it will be too much work having to tell the guy to delete his log until he posts a photo of a C? Even though he had other photos of other nearby virtuals with his same face and same buddy on the same day? Again, you must be fun at parties. LOL.
  4. Here is what I did for my virtual 2.0 that seems to be working. https://coord.info/GC88Z3A
  5. Basically there is no way to know because anyone who claims the most finds in 24 hours is probably lying because they really cached with friends and split up into three or four cars and claimed all of the finds.
  6. I have had this TB for over six months. I also took him to 4 of his goals too so I don't feel bad for holding onto him at all. I also took numerous photos of him all over the place. So it really depends on the TB and its goals. Just to hold onto one? A couple of weeks to two months max. Get rid of it if you aren't going to move it.
  7. I am with you A-Team. I rarely if never log in the field. However, my plan later today is to find the detective from my phone and just log it. Then when I get to my hotel and decide to do my proper log, I simply delete that quick log, then start logging in the order I normally would. Then for the next level I am just going to let it ride and see what I need to get to level three and then do that. I have enough caching planned for the next two weeks outside of this promotion that fitting in the promotion shouldn't be a problem even if I don't log them as I go. Just remember, most likely a quick app log as found it can easily be deleted later, but for the promotion they usually do not revert your progress. It is like stealing souvenirs. You can go log a find, then delete your find but the souvenir is forever. I have never done that, but I know some who have.
  8. I was your first? Nice!!! Yeah you are probably right! https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/how-can-i-find-survey-benchmark-and-triangulation-station-information
  9. I read the logs!!! Though that is kind of my point. Most people don't and most people just want to log a find whether it is accurate or not. However, that is what makes this game so great. It is what you make it and not really so much about how others play the game.
  10. If you aren't willing to put down the money, then the risk of you messing with the caches is too great. All my caches are premium now and I am fine with non-premium members missing out. Thank you everyone else for reminding me there is a huge world out there that has no USGS benchmarks. I live in an Americancentric world!
  11. I just received my notification that I got one! I am pumped! Check your in-boxes!!!
  12. This seems pretty clear. What do the choices "Found It", "Didn't Find It", "Destroyed", and "Post a Note" mean?
  13. I have set up three Geocaches to talk about Benchmarking. I even made benchmarks for containers (you can get a better look at what I did at this cache.. Let me know if there is anything you think I should add to any of the three. I will make some more containers and plant some Benchmark UnChallenges to continue the trail along that dirt road they are on. 14. I was in Anaheim this weekend and I saw that the Big A Scoreboard at Anaheim Stadium was a landmark! Well today when I went to log it, I could clearly tell it was no longer at the correct location and should have never been logged as found. As us true die hard benchmarkers know, this doesn't discourage people from logging it as Found It! anyway. So now I ask the question, how long until someone comes along, reads my log, and marks it as found anyway? ANAHEIM BIG A SCOREBOARD LT
  15. If we are going to make it over 25, let's make it 140! He he he. Which that is super impressive. Nice.
  16. I like it. Until I don't get drawn and then I will talk mad trash about everyone who got one! ;) Actually, the nice thing about 2.0 is that won't be the case. I will know I didn't randomly get drawn and there isn't anything you can do about it. However, I would like to see this applied to webcam caches. People with over 25 webcam caches and who opt in get drawn to make a new list of webcam caches. I would love that...because I have found over 25 webcam caches! However, that took a lot of miles and work. It was not easy. I love webcam caches!
  17. I am the only regular Geocacher in my town. The closest unfound caches I haven't planted are 17 air miles away. So Benchmarking is fun for me. Except now I have found most of the benchmarks around me now too. I enjoy benchmarking because it is a different kind of search with different restrictions. I find it fun to have to read the old descriptions, look at old topo maps, and sometimes dig to find the mark.
  18. That makes sense. Why were all those caches archived?
  19. I was thinking of doing some PowerTrailing so I could build up my favorite points for the upcoming Cache Carnival and was looking at some nice trails in Nevada. Well when I zoomed in on the map, the caches disappeared. What gives? I can't tell if they are archived or not. Anyone else running into this problem or is it just my browser? Click the link below and then zoom in on some of the lines of caches. They just disappear. http://coord.info/map?ll=38.84506,-118.60565&z=10 Anyone know what is going on?
  20. I would love to receive a message like this and it would not bother me in the slightest.
  21. It is a benchmark year for me. Literally, finding benchmarks are my main goals. 1. Complete and find the Jack Rabbit Challenge Trail Benchmark Series: 250 BMs - Completed 500 BMs - 50 BMs in a Day - 15 Landmark BMs - Completed Five 25 BM Days - 100 Years of BMs - Alphabet BMs - Completed Altitude BMs - 2. Complete the 50% Well Rounded Difficulty/Terrain Day Challenge - 3. Complete the San Luis Obispo County Quadrangle UnChallenge - You can click the links at www.elrojo14.com.
  22. That was freaking hilarious. I love it. It never once occurred to me to take any of the numerous Jeep TBs I have seen over the years and do anything other than move them. I have been sitting on a gold mine all this time.
  23. So I am going to make some Benchmark Geocaching UnChallenge caches and boy would it be easier with some benchmark statistics pages. Anyone know of any or have the knowledge to make some? A benchmark US Map would be good for each state you have found a benchmark in. The 366 calendar days would be nice. Is benchmarking so obscure only those of you reading this care or do we have some promise here?
  24. I just started using your app this month in order to convert my .txt to .gpx to upload to Cachly for paperless benchmarking where I don't have cell reception. It is 100% vital to the process! So thank you!
  25. We tested out the benchmarking on Cachly last Sunday and it worked great. The only thing better would be if it saved the Geocaching logs and displayed them and their photos.
