  1. how about don't stomp down flower beds? don't log NM or NA just because you couldn't find it.
  2. just curious, are you planning on maintaining this series after the "prize" has been awarded or is this just a race
  3. they have also seen 100000+ downloads of their PAID app from the android play store (no idea how many from the Apple crowd)so theres a million bucks. plus the number of paid memberships they get and no telling how much they pull in on trackables and other things from geo-sales. bottom line is its a business first. the intro app is a gateway app. a gateway to paid apps, memberships and sales. so while they may get around to some kind of token effort, don't hold your breath. now, convince about 75% of their PAID subscribers to stop paying, and they would start paying attention real quick. but since that won't happen, po caches and higher d/t combos will have to do for now
  4. I will be in fort worth for a day or so later this month. (about ten minutes north of town right off i-35. I was wondering if any of the local cachers could recommend any must see/do caches. traditionals, multis, earth caches or virtuals. just no puzzles please, brain won't cooperate. parks with multiple caches are great. caches involving a hike are excellent however due to limited time frame can't do any long hikes. oh and cemetery caches are always welcome. Just the names are fine I'll look them up for the gc codes if necessary. not trying to give anyone homework lol. many thanks in advance for any and all help! can't wait to finally get to the great state of Texas!! only took 37 years.
  5. So recently i found a travel bug in a cache just north of Atlanta. It shows in the hands of another cacher(zero finds i think,maybe1) from Colorado, where this trackable was last logged, almost three years ago. A cacher from ga left a note that he found it in a cache(not logged into it) and that he was bringing it back here. Well looks like he took a break(almost 3 years), i find the trackable in a cache. He didn't log a smiley but i can see he is active around here again. So i emailed the owner who is still active and get no response. They have since logged in but not replied. So i email their other half, who released the travel bug mate to this one. Guess what,no response. I thought maybe they would want it back since it was so important(their words). Should i wait a bit longer or just grab it from the guy showing holding it and put back in play?
  6. 1. Validated email in order for app to even work. One problem solved 2. Mandatory q&a, for which specific answers are obtainable only through website, before caches can be found. This should weed out the "cachers" for who the novelty would wear off quickly, reducing problems with damaged or missing caches, and the ones who find one and then want to stick an altoids tin everywhere. 3. Minimum find count before publishing caches becomes possible.
  7. Different to hear this from one so new and I was with you until you mentioned find counts and basic members not accessing premium hides. The subject is the intro app, not basic members hiding caches or finding PMO hides. There's quite a few threads on those subjects. Yes i know however the EASE of downloading the app and hitting the trails without being made to understand even the basics contributes directly to newbies sticking caches any and everywhere and finding people's caches and not doing things correctly. Thus leading to all the threads on those subjects. Bottom line, MAKE them get the know-how and maybe they will hide better caches, not take a trackable and give it to the kids to lose, and not steal break or whatever else co's complain of them doing.
  8. It is way too easy for just anyone to walk out the door and start finding caches with no direction or any clue as to what this hobby is about. I know, i did it. I'm new to this and totally get what the op is saying. Allot of these problems could be weeded out with a few simple changes and requirements. Of course there is email validation, but why couldn't they make any newcomers run a gauntlet to weed out the ones that see a story about geocaching and immediately think they are Bear Grylls. They could make the intro app force them to answer specific questions to which the answers are on the website. Quiz em dizzy and if they really wanna cache, they'll do it. Do this before even 1cache can be found. Make a minimum find count mandatory before they can even access a cache submittal form. Do away with basic members being able to search for a way to find premium caches. I know they said this hobby would never be one that you had to pay to play, so maybe premium members would agree to hide at least one non-premium cache for every three or so premium hides in exchange. Let the intro app focus heavily on teaching and push them towards the website and becoming premium members. Drastic maybe, but you know what they say....drastic calls time for measuring drastically..that seems wrong. Anyway sorry for rambling, happy trails!
  9. The wife and i find our first cache on August 1st, not knowing about the31 days streak. So we found out while logging that day and thought, why not. So 101 days later, it does tend to be a pain some days. I work all over the metro atl area so it's usually no problem to find one if we have no planned time that day to go out. We do happen to find allot of p&g's, but try to hit the woods whenever we can, even if it's just a short hike. We have decided on a few occasions to just not get one that day and just get over it. But that just ends with me and our youngest daughter(10) looking like junkies by sundown and grabbing the flashlights. Other than that we have lots of great memories of lots of great places, met some great people on the trails, chased off two snakes, broken a park rule or two(they shouldn't close that early anyway) and dodged LEO pretty well. HAPPY CACHING EVERYONE
  10. Make sure to tell them how this will increase foot traffic to their establishment and offer to put coupons of theirs (if applicable) in the cache
  11. Well now I feel like the south end of a north bound donkey. I talked to the owner of a tb I found back when I first started geocaching(2 months ago) and he wanted everything logged. So I thought people wanted visits logged for the mileage. Certainly don't want to step on any nerves or anything. Guess I got some splainin' to do
