  1. Does anyone know if someone has travelled to every State in the Union and found a geocache there yet?
  2. I've been wondering about this one for quite a while. I'm sort of surprized no one has even attempted it almost three years.
  3. Mucho Kudos (What ever happened to boxermom?)
  4. Congrats to the third NoVA cacher to reach 1000! 4 figures, what an accomplishment.
  5. Here's the story. If you pull up the coordinates on an aerial mapping service it looks like it in the middle of a field. It is. There nothing matching that description within a reasonable distance. Heck the closet tree was over 100 feet away. The clue points to the cache being at the top of a short set of stairs. The closest thing matching that description is 400 feet to the east. I wasn't able to explore the area completely, as part of it was closed for obvious maintence, but I'd be surprized if it is there. Next time I'm in DC I'll check out the area again, and hopefully it will be open to the public. Although possible that this is the location, I don't hold out any hope. I'm over 90% certain that the cache and TB are kaput. Sorry. I wish I had better news.
  6. I see your TB was rescued today. I'm going to try and find the other one mentioned in this thread tomorrow. Thanks to Keystone Admin for sending me the coordinates.
  7. For the TB that was placed around the Awakenings statue, I'd be surprized if it was still there. This statue is climbed on by childrennonstop from sun up to sun down. I wasn't planning on going near it, but I'll see if I have time to stop by - not that I think there's any chance it'll still be there. For ahimsa's, I posted a note on the TB page, asking the Keystone Approver to send me the coordinates. I'll be all over the National Mall this Satuday so it shouldn't be a problem picking it up.
  8. I lost the subscription ID I was sent from Paypal after I sent the money for a premier membership. What do I do now?
  9. When I did it 2 years ago I only needed one piece of paper, and all the clues were printed on one side of it. I own 2 of the virts down there, and I average about 5 hits a week in general on them. There were about 12 of us last year, so that was a big day.
  10. As a resident of Virginia, I think the region of state I live (Northern Virginia) fits perfectly within a definition of Northeast. However, anywhere south of Fredericksburg and west of Leesburg is definitally the South. Can we make the folks who live there post in the other forum.
  11. I'd be willing to tweak the start time if folks are coming from out of town for it.
  12. Congrats. Let me know when you get close to 1000. I'd be happy to place a challenging one out there just for such a milestone. Gary, you're a credit to the sport.
  13. The 3rd Annual Capital Cache Walk, Saturday October 16th N 38° 53.735 W 077° 02.525 Come join us at 9am and the posted coordinates for a geocaching walk around the National Mall And Tidal Basin. The entire hike is about 8 miles, however you can join us and/or leave us at any time. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The entire hike should take us 5 or so hours, depending on how many virtual geocaches we stop to visit along the way. There are about 35 or so along the route. The route we will be following is the same as we did at last year’s event, and the same as I walked on 10-12-2002, if you want to check out my logs from that day (they’re numbered). Here is the URL from last year’s event, which was sanctioned by geocaching.com: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...de-69d58ce94848 This year the event is being endorsed by the Maryland Geocaching Society. Even though you won’t get a smiley for attending the event, you should be able to get quite a few from all of caches enroute. I’ve made this walk twice before, and there’ll still be one or two for me to find. The wide sidewalks along the route make it perfect for a traveling geocaching seminar. If you’re a new geocacher looking for advise, an experienced geocacher who likes to retell of your adventures, or you just want to put some faces on some of the names you see in the logs, come on out and walk with us. GPS receivers in hand, we’re quite a sight strolling past the seat of our countries government, it’s monuments and museums. If you can’t make it right on time, no matter, send me an e-mail and I’ll send you my cell phone number and you can meet up with us enroute. I’d also be happy to answer any questions you may have. If you plan on attending, please let me know by replying here, at www.mdgps.org, or by sending me an e-mail."
  14. One of these days, I'm going to have to meet Ed. Congrats.
  15. This is a geocaching web site, not a geocache tourism web site. Event cache criteria is spelled out in the guidelines. Ways to do what the original poster wants to do have been suggested here. It is done successfully all the time. I have been taken around by people and I have taken people around myself. I didn't need a cache page to make it happen. It just takes a little more work than just posting a cache page and seeing who shows up. It is not the intended purpose of the event cache type. This is also specifically spelled out in the guidelines. It is clearly in black and white so I cannot approve this type of cache. The only remedy at this point is for the OP to write the upper level admins for the site for and exemption from the guidelines. Dear mtn-man, I've e-mailed you my cell phone number and would still like the opportunity to discuss this with you. I still believe that I've complied with the guidelines for the event cache that is currently in the que. From your post of 9/27, however, I'm getting the impression that your mind is already made up. If that is the case, could you please inform me who the "upper level admins" are. I'm not really familiar with this process. Previously I've always either been able to convince an admin that my cache was appropriate, or they were able to convince me why it wasn't. I don't really want to elevate the matter. I would really like to settle it between us. You mentioned previously that you would speak to me. If you would e-mail me you number and best time to call, I'd be happy to do it on my nickel. I see that the proposed event cache still contemplates just an organized hunt for other caches, with nothing added in response to the suggestions made. Therefore, it still cannot be listed in its current form. If you would like an exemption from the event cache definitions, you should write to the contact at geocaching dot com e-mail address. If you would like to lodge a complaint concerning the volunteer reviewers' application of the listing guidelines to your cache, you should write to the approvers at geocaching dot com e-mail address. In either case, the issue is likely to land on the desk of Hydee. The last we heard in our Reviewers Forum from Hydee on the issue of event caches was at the end of July when we were scolded for giving too much leeway in the interpretation of the guidelines. Thank you for the 2nd opinion. The cache page has been revised. Am I getting closer?
  16. Went out caching last weekend and had a minor accident.. The log about it. Now I am thinking about going to your event cache. Both legs are swollen and the kneews are not doing so well. Left hand is working but not so well. I wont be able to walk 8 miles, that is without a doubt, but I really want to visit with the other cachers... Would you be able to carry me or something so we can chat? or ill you just wave at me as you walk off to do your cache numbers? In the past every event I have gone to was centered at a place.. Those who could not play the games at the event could still sit and be part of it. Where on this eight mile hike can the injured and less fit or ill people partake in it? ..Edited to shorten.. I'd be happy to take a turn pushing your wheelchair.
