  1. Easiest solution, put the proper date and time in the log, above or below it even. Makes it always a part of the permanent record.
  2. "I downloaded a bunch of pocket queries last night. Why the heck does geocahing.com limit the number? Well, gotta go download the 5 from tonight, cuz 3000 unfound cachces on my GPS just isn’t enough." author to remain un-named. I found a link to someone's blog in these forums, and took a peek. The above quote caught my eye, particularly the part about the 3k caches. This person is really getting into the game! Thanks for the laugh.
  3. Saw this and got to thinking. Scrolled a map until I spied a rest area with cache, the opened that page and checked for bookmark lists. Sure enough, mcrt has one that led me to rest areas, and I was able to build from there. His list added, and some new ones as well.
  4. At one time, rig was a TB. New trucks make it very difficult to put a magnetic tag on them, thinking on that problem.
  5. Bumping so those planning RV vacations and those who will drive their way through summer can more easily find the bookmarks. Still looking for more to add also. Thanks
  6. Like Palmetto points out, the first check can be done before time is spent writing the cache page, just do a search from the coords. Took just a few seconds, showed me there were no problems with visible locations, so I made the placement. Thank goodness there are no proximity restrictions to benchmarks, a cacher could get four finds within 500 feet with my last hide. (GC3M631)
  7. If we deny anything with a logo or company name most swag is gone, the free stuff is what folks part with easiest. As to your samples, most folks are reluctant to use anything that could be contaminated, such as lotions, that were left unattended. Also, how well would the product keep if in the cache for a period. A couple may be OK, but if you fill it others would have to dig through to look for travelers or log.
  8. A find is a find, if they dont like the cache they can say so there.
  9. Auto supply houses have a box with different sizes O rings available.
  10. I have found several online translators to be adequate for shorter conversations. For example, we have a Hungarian neighbor who is thrilled to be able to think in her native tongue and have it translated for my wife.
  11. Same problems. Slow to load, often no coverage, can't zoom coverage close enough sometimes (I use overhead views to confirm safe truck parking). Definitely not as good as the Google we had.
  12. I often use the WAP application to access Groundspeak in a quick search for caches (no smart phone, I have one as challenged as I). This results in a circle search from my location, most often in a picnic or rest area. As I am traveling, usually all but the first one or two results are of no use, and the only way to know the location of the others is to open each and compare coords with my location. Question. Would it be possible to focus the WAP results so that when a traveler searches only those immediately in a directional range are included. For example, enter current coords, search 30* either side of bearing XXX. Leaving this blank could again result in the current circle search. This would be usable in that if one was traveling from Seattle and used the location of North Bend, they could then focus the search between 85* and 145* by entering 115*, giving only results toward Ellensburg instead of including the Seattle area. If looking for caches convenient to a customer or overnight location, leaving blank would show all nearest.
  13. TB owners release their little vermin out into the wild for the joy of seeing where that critter ends up. No need to check with anyone, just be sure to get pics. You get one of mine that way, LAUNCH AWAY!!! A friend of mine used to attach about hi-vis streamers to his, 3ft xm 1 inch that deployed with the chute.
  14. Actually, I don't see "game over". Volunteer to work with them on the caching idea, set up to give a presentation using Groundspeak materials and others, take a couple of the staff to some of the more inventive and rememberable local hides, perhaps even suggest setting up an experimental cache under you guidance to help them test the waters. You could even enlist the help of existing cache owners.
  15. Around the yard, on the dogs, and even on myself at cuffs and waist, wettable dusting sulpher does a good job of discouraging chiggers, fleas, and ticks. Rub it into the coat like you would flea powder and get a lite dusting under the ear. The dog's, not yours.
  16. This discussion got me wondering, so a quick check of my stats page showed I have 2 finds on Feb. 29. Guess I will have to be sure to grab one this year for your reason as well. Good luck.
  17. Any local cachers that might have one ready? Attend your next local event and find out.
  18. Thank you for your service. What Keystone suggests is what some of us who travel the country do as well, find someone local who can assist with maintenance and contact them through the site. I would begin with the owners of one that you have found since that is most likely your neighborhood there in Bakersfield. After you get email agreement, place and submit the cache copying the agreement to the reviewer in the notes. Keep in mind, the more inventive the cache, the more glowing comments you will receive on it.
  19. To be honest, I am surprised this thread has gone this long without someone mentioning " Uncle Elwyn". JB should be more than enough to seal that tube. May he travel well and visit many, many tree hides.
  20. Hey, be patient. They are going there but the trip isn't until Spring Break in April. LOL At least they are keeping your TB active and letting you know they haven't forgotten it.
  21. For those stuck with somewhat less than broadband internet connections, the marquees will slow to a crawl the loading of the cache page. Please do not use those.
  22. For minor or recent issues, just put a mention in your log as cache owners should be getting these notifications. For an issue that has been ongoing for a period of time, say 60 days or longer, it may be that the cache owner is no longer active, lives too far away for maintenance, or has just grown indifferent. These warrant an ""NM" log to bring this to the reviewer's attention.
  23. Especially if you're an Auburn fan. Have we practiced our "duck and cover" drills lately? Awww, what the heck. If it ain't the Longhorns, they just don't matter. LOL
  24. I can see a purpose. When researching a trip, the last caches you looked at before you closed your browser and headed out the door should be gathered right there. Beyond that, no purpose.
