  1. I finally sat down this afternoon, got the map upated and re-hosted. I can see 4 reserved sites right now that no one had yet claimed: 31, 33 and 35. If you're on one of these sites and want to be added to the map, just drop me a line. And if you already did, and I haven't, my appologies. Drop me another line in a bigger font. :)

The map is at the same location, but just for repetition's sake: Here's the Map!

See the link above for campground map & reservation info.

My wife and I are going, it sounds like it will be a fun time. :D

  2. There is an EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) ems.com in Manhattan but they get $500 USD for the GPSMap 60CSx. I got the same model unit from buy.com and had great service & fast shipping when I ordered for Christmas. They have em at buy.com for $350 USD with free shipping. Not sure how soon or what cost to ship overseas.

  3. I purchased my Garmin Map60CSx from buy.com around Christmas time and just recently received the rebate check with no problem. I do copy everything. Attached the upc and circled all pertinent info in red pen or highliter. The s/n had one extra digit in which I remember reading about somewhere, perhaps the forums here that suggested adding an additional box to accommodate the longer s/n. I am glad I got mine with no trouble but disappointed for the others here that did not have the same experience.

  4. With the forecast for a good amount of snowfall on the way I thought it might be good to bounce this to the top of the list. Will anyone brave the elements and additional challenge that snow brings to find some caches? I'm gonna get my snowshoes out in case I can't resist.:blink:

  5. None of the above for us. We have actually stepped up the pace since Christmas getting out as many weekends as possible. If there is not much snow on the ground to inhibit finds we will be out there. Perhaps it has something to do with the new GPSMAP60CSx my wife got me and us hovering closer to the #300 mark.

  6. Yea, all this cold weather finally and very little snow....my snoshoes are still hanging on the wall. I bet Waterboy's water bottles are all frozen. :D

  7. After reviewing the info and thread on this event and all the caching possibilities, we have decided to join in this event. Looks like a fun time and looking forward to meeting some new geocaching faces. We successfully secured site #64. There are still sites remaining if your interested!

  8. I like that breakfast idea. Meet for some socializing and then a day of caching.

Yea, I agree I would go along with that :(

This way even if you don't get a smiley for the event, there are group cache hunts that follow the meal.

Perhaps a twist would be that the small groups could compete against each other in a mini cache ralley to see what group finds most in a given time duration. I think Brainsnat suggested something like a cache ralley in another thread if I remember correctly. <_<

  9. I got my Gerbil Geocoin in the mail on Saturday. Very cool indeed! I take this coin is not a trackable item since it only has the serial numbers of 1 through 100 only on the coin? Thanks for the Coin it will make a nice collectible item from a fun day out caching on a balmy 70 degree day in Jan. Thanks to all that put this coin project together. :)

  10. I got my Gerbil Geocoin in the mail Saturday....very cool indeed! I guess this is not a trackable item? It appears to be a commemorative collectible type coin. The only number on it is the 1-100 based on the coupon selected from the stash in the cache. Either way it's a nice looking coin.

  11. :):):D Congrats on find no 500 B):):D I haven't been hiking in S. Mountain in years. I grew up down that way but haven't really returned. Guess I'll have to do some caching there sometime. But there are plenty in Sussex/Morris county keeping me busy. Keep on caching Old Navy !
  12. I was also planning on making this my 1,000th cache.

I would like to join you, but I'm not sure the timing will be right .

    I'm currently at 984.

I wonder if Trail Hound will be joining us Saturday?...I see he found a bunch today and is up to 996 :D

  13. http://www.pc-mobile.net/bta.htm This should work with any GPS, if you get the right cable. I regularly use it with both my Digitraveler and Legend. You will have to set your Garmin to use NMEA, not Garmin, protocol.

If you know how, you can make your own cable. The adapter takes a 2.5mm plug (standard cell phone). Pfranc sells all sorts of Garmin connectors, and Radio Shack sells 2.5mm plugs, so all you need is one of each, and any cable that has 3 conductors. Standard stereo cable is fine, in whatever thickness you can find and will fit. This is the way I went.

I have used the bluetooth adapter described above with my Garmin etrex. It works great and pretty easy to hook up. I have it interfaced via bluetooth to my dell pocket pc pda for mapping on that device. I just got the GPS MAP60CSx and plan on getting the serial cable (it's a differnet plug etrex vrs map60CSx) so I may continue to use the bluetooth adapter. Just remember to set the interface to NMEA and it works fine. Good Luck.

  14. My suggestion is to clear the odometer and data fields at the start ,then after your walk/outing you may save your breadcrumb tracks as a route. This route may then be saved to your computer by loading the tracks via Garmin Mapsource software. This is uploading from your Garmin via a serial or usb cable. The route will now be visible on the mapping software where you may look at the route on the screen & also the vertical profile (nice if your climbing any hills). All the track points may be viewed that contain the time, date, distance, etc.

  15. Nicely done Tiki. I liked the video, this will come in handy to explain what us Geocahers do in the woods on our spare time with our high tech gps units. I think you should work on a series of geocaching vids as others have suggested. Looks like you had fun making it as well. Happy Holidays!:cry:

  16. We are saddened to hear the news of the loss of your father and husband. Although we never met Helmut, we have seen his name in so many cache logs, and wish we had the chance to meet him. What a nice way for a father to spend time with his girls. We hope you find strength in knowing that so many people have you in their thoughts and prayers. Our deepest sympathies go out the family. Take care of each other.
