  1. Hi Keystone. I have an email in to you about the change to the new GeoTour in Centre County. I'm hopeful that you will continue to hold on to those and not publish them since we have rescheduled that event. We do want to secure the coordinates based on all the work the cachers have done to date, but not publish anything at this time. Hopefully you have seen that email and can get back to us when you have time. I know you guys are very busy and thank you for your hard work!! Pam/iplay
  2. Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for but had trouble finding on my own.
  3. What is the process for submitting a proposal to host a future GeoWoodstock event, and how far out are the events scheduled? We have some interest from our CVB to host an event like this and have access to a large fairgrounds with camping areas, stage, restrooms, open space, etc. We also have some great caching opportunities and plenty of infrastructure for nights/evenings/pre-con and post-con entertainment for folks. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! iplay
  4. I was working on cleaning up the TB inventory today; several years ago, two travel bugs went missing and I posted notes, contacted the last cacher who had the TB, etc. Four years later, the TBs are still missing. What is the process for removing the TB completely? I'd like to re-use the tracking number, but it would be a completely different TB and not a replacement for the one still "on the road." Does anyone know the process? If not, I guess the only option is to just reuse the number and edit the TB's page?
  5. Thank you for your support. It's a shame that you aren't more informed about the cancellation of the "It Reeks" event. I was a co-sponsor of this event and did most of the planning; the manager of Banshee Reeks did not do any of his part and therefore, nothing was ready the day before the event. That's why it was canceled. I didn't feel it necessary to announce this to the public and therefore posted the nicest cancellation I could think of. I'm sorry that you have such hard feelings about my operation here at Claude Moore Park. Several people have commented about the ease of finding Claude's Vestals Gap Cache and that it's perfect for newcomers. I also have worked with the owner of the other cache in the park and moved his cache to a better location, still close the trail, but better hidden. You're right. I'm still a newbie to this sport. I don't get out a quarter as much as I would like to because work and other personal interests keep me from doing so. However, if you attend any of the events at Claude Moore Park, they are well organized and enjoyed by several thousand; so, to criticize my planning skills is unfair and awful harsh. Somehow, I have personally offended you during the planning time for your event. At Claude Moore Park, we don't encourage much off-trail hiking, and you desired to have everyone go off trail. After reviewing your coordinates, I did not move forward with your event because you weren't willing to change them. Again, I'm sorry for your disappointment with our operation. I wish you would have contacted me directly instead of posting a public criticism of me and Claude Moore Park.
  6. Letterboxing is a sport I recently discovered because Claude Moore Park, Sterling, VA, has four letterboxes at the park, not to mention the two caches. Here's the website regarding the sport of Letterboxing: http://www.letterboxing.org/
  7. Geocachers and GPS owners--come one, come all. Here's your chance to hike Claude Moore Park, search for hidden treasure and compete for prizes. Not only will you have to find the permanent Claude's Vestals Gap Cache, but you'll have to find the event caches as well. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Rain or shine. Stay after and chat with fellow geocaching friends in the historic area or grill out and enjoy a picnic. You do not need to own a GPS to participate. Event runs 8:30-11 AM on Saturday, September 25. Call 703-444-1275 for more information or to pre-register. Register by 9/17/04. FREE
  8. Hi everyone. Just another update for the It Reeks! Geocaching Event to be held on May 15. Many of you have inquired about being able to log your cache finds since the event contains temporary caches. Geocaching.com has given us permission to tell participants that they can log the event more than once, basically log the event for each cache found. I hope this helps and will allow participants to add to their overall cache totals. Here's just a brief summary of the event...one more time! Claude Moore Park and Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, two parks operated by Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Service, are co-sponsoring their first-ever geocaching event. Banshee Reeks is a 700-acre nature preserve just outside Leesburg, VA; because it has limited operational hours, we thought this would be a great way to introduce people to the preserve. For driving directions to the park, check out www.bansheereeks.org; otherwise, find N 39 02.195/W 77 35.469. Follow the main road into the park, and park at N 39 01.704/W 77 35.978. The check-in area is located here and we'll do a brief meet-and-greet, provide the cachers with a packet of info., and start the event at 9 AM. Prizes will be awarded to the Fastest Cacher, Slowest Cacher, Youngest Cacher, and Oldest Cacher. This is a multi-cache event, and should prove to be a lot of fun. We hope that many of you will stay after the event and hike Banshee's trails, meadows, and forests as the park is open to the public on this day. For more event information, please contact me. See you on May 15th!
  9. This sounds very much like what we're doing for "It Reeks! Geocaching Event." We're utilizing a 700-acre park and placing several caches for the day; you'll park once and hike all over the area. Prizes will be awarded in different categories as well.
  10. This is an update to an earlier post; plans for this event are coming along nicely. I hope many of you will attend! As a reminder, Claude Moore Park and Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, two parks operated by Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Service, are co-sponsoring their first-ever geocaching event. Banshee Reeks is a 700-acre nature preserve just outside Leesburg, VA; because it has limited operational hours, we thought this would be a great way to introduce people to the preserve. Banshee Reeks is a 700-acre nature preserve just outside Leesburg, VA; because it has limited operational hours, we thought this would be a great way to introduce people to the preserve. More information will become available and will be posted to the cache listing. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome since this is our first organized event! THANKS!
  12. I hope to return to Central PA for this event; since I use to live there, I would highly recommend that you get permission from the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Department if you choose to use any of their parks/sites. Mr. Ron Woodhead is the director. I'll keep looking for updated info.!
