  1. I have been playing with Topo 2008 and notice a bunch of new waypoint symbols that are not available on my handheld?? How do I transfer the new symbols over? When I uploaded my waypoints to mapsource (transfer from GPSr) I could modify the symbols in Mapsource, but they remain unchanged on the GPSr? Does the GPSr and Mapsourc "sync" like a PDA or do you have to "transfer to" and "transfer from" to keep the GPSr and Marsource the same? Thanks, Jack
  2. Hogrod, great tip! Works like a charm - so easy a caveman could do it!
  3. Ok, I purchased Topo 2008 this weekend and it is far better than the base map. Let me ask this - I loaded about 900 maps to my GPS60CSX and on the map set-up page, under map name, it seems to list the names of all the tiles I loaded? How in the world would I ever turn these maps off if I later install City Nav?
  4. 2G for $23 from Amazon. Now what in the world do I put on it
  5. Well, first off I want to thank the many posters on this board that provided me with a wealth of information. I lurked for several months and finally purchased a Garmin 60 CSX. All I can say is wow! This thing is incredible. I have read the manual (most of it) and played with it a week or so. I only have the GPSr, no addition maps yet - but the accuracy and capability is unbelievable! I have software version 3.00 and GPS SW version 2.8. Web updater says I am current and I must say most of the minor 'bugs' mentioned here do not seem to affect my unit. (I noticed the battery contacts have black foam factory installed). Ok, enough gushing about my new toy!! Question, if I am going to use the base map for driving, under the Routing Menu, guidance method, should I select "follow road". Conversly, when I leave the car (hiking), should I select "off road". Same question for the "Map" page, should I use Lock on Road = on for driving, off for hiking? The manual does a great job explaing what settings are available, just not what to use when
  6. I see the Maps are 1:100K scale - is it worth the money to invest in the software? I will primarily be using my 60CSX for hiking, hunting, fishing - maybe some road trips. Logically it seems to make sense, but I do not see Topo US discussed much on here? Also, the basemap, will my GPSr switch between TOPO and the basemap depending on which areas I load, which areas have more detail, etc. Thanks, J.
  7. Sputnik, Exactly the information I was looking for!! Placing my order today for the GPSr, TOPO and 512 MB SD card!
  8. Thanks guys! I really only plan on using the GPSr for off-road for now (US TOPO) - I may buy one of the city nav programs next year!
  9. Ok all, I have been lurking on this forum for weeks to gather information on the purchase of my first GPSr. I will primarily be using it for hunting, hiking and caching. Based on on the "which is better" threads (and the $50 rebate announced today) I have elected to go with the Garmin gpsmap 60csx. Of course, I have a couple of questions. Even though the topo cd is 1:100K scale, I think it will be useful for hunting and hiking - so I plan on purchasing that when I order my GPSr. 1) if I wanted to load the entire state of GA, the eastern part of TN, and the western part of Colorado maps on this unit, what size memory card would I need 1a) I am still really confused on this POI/Lack of POI thing - if I mark a waypoint on the GPSr while hiking, does that mean it will not show up in the PC version of TOPO - or does it mean I can not enter waypoints on the TOPO software and have them show up on the GPSr? 2) Which brand memory card - Scandisc? 3) Amazon seems to have great prices on the units now - I assume they are an authorized dealer and I can use the rebate if purchased through them? If there are any links to place where I can self-serve (to limit my questions) - please advise!! Thanks so much, Jack
