  1. A bunch of .30 cal ammo cans that I'll hide in the spring and a snuggy....
  2. I understand where you're coming from with that term. We were so hesitant to use "muggle" in our logs because it just sounded...so...silly...For years I would specifically type "non-cacher" in our logs to replace "muggle", but eventually, we just said to heck with it and started saying "muggle"...if you can't beat 'em, join 'em I guess...
  3. We were caching with my sister-in-law this past winter and their new geo-pup dug up 3 legs of a 4 leg mutli-cache! It was crazy! I don't know if we would have found the cache because of all the snow, but the dog went right to each location and dug them up.
  4. We've never had that happen to us before...I have to ask, could your DNF log have been considered rude by the cache owner?
  5. We did 56 in a day in Nevada thanks to the Road of Wells and followed it up with 51 two days later thanks to the huge smile in the desert...they certainly helped boost our totals...looking back, when we first started caching, it was a feat to get 7 or 8 in a day. Today, that's nothing. Oh how our sport has changed over the years...
  6. We've got plenty of cachers in our area that log their own caches as finds, so antics like you've experienced don't shock us at all...
  7. Squirrel Stepped over this thing in Nevada Desert turtle in Nevada Biggest slug ever! Found inside the cache Cache guardian Snails on the trails Some crazy looking thing out West Death Valley Maybe someday we'll be lucky enough to see one of these
  8. We've found virtual caches in Zion, Death Valley, Petrified Forest, Smoky Mountains, etc., etc.,..many of these virtual caches have been some of the best caching experiences that we've had to date I hope that the grandfathered virtuals never go away.
  9. The problem with 5 gallon buckets is that when properly closed they are difficult to open. This is true. We found one in the desert last fall and my other half tore off one of her fingernails opening the darn thing. They do offer fantastic protection from the elements though and are quite durable.
  10. What really bothers me about all of this is the fact that you can shoot animals, fish and trap in WMA's, but geocaching isn't allowed.....or is it? I am confused....
  11. To quote the great Henry Rollins...."Tattoos are a road map of your life"
  12. This is a fantastic topic. We submitted a cache in a local WMA for review in September of 2004. Here was the response: September 1, 2004 by New York Admin (0 found) I'm sorry, this cache appears to be located in a New York State Department of Conservation Game Management Area. The NY State DEC has recently stated that geocaches are forbidden in NY State on DEC managed properties without a Temperary Revokable Parmit. Unless you have verifiable permission and a permit from the head park ranger or the DEC regional office, this cache must be removed as soon as possible and I'm archiving the cache. Please don't hesitate to respond with an explanation if you feel this cache has been misjudged or after you've received permission. Thanks, New York Admin Geocaching.com We never really followed up on this one, as we figured we'd have a heck of a time getting it approved from the local DEC. Does anyone know if NYGO has lobbied the state in regard to caches in WMA's? It would be a fine day in WNY if our WMA's were opened to caching.
  13. Caching around Vegas last fall....this is pretty cool....
  14. There are plenty of them in our area; one is definitely a 5/5 climbing cache. Since we don't have the gear, we won't risk doing it. Then there are plenty of caches that are rated in the 4/4 range that require climbs of 30 to 40 feet up a pine tree. We've found a few of these.
  15. I love the idea. There are a number of caches that I've seen around the US that could be considered borderline Urbex; we've actually hidden one http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...39-47bd2ff3336f
  16. The length of our online logs depend on the quality of the cache that we've found. If we've just found a lamp-skirt or bee box micro, it's obvious that the hider didn't put much of an effort into hiding the actual cache, so we tend to keep our logs as brief as possible. I mean, what are we really going to say? "Thanks for bringing us to the Best Buy parking lot. It was an awesome adventure". If we've found a cache in a park, on a trail, in the wilderness or even a cleverly placed urban micro, than we tend to write a more appreciative log. The better the cache, the better the log.
  17. We've had 3 out of the 4 TBs that we've released go missing... One of them was hidden in a hydro-style cache and the cache got washed away by floor waters or something, so that TB bit the dust. Another ended up traveling many thousands of miles before somebody decided to hold onto it... The 3rd only got a few miles on it before some n00b kept it forever.. The 4th is still out there...hopefully this one will have better luck...
  18. I am all for anything having to do with zombies! Go for it! Perhaps we'll take a trip out to CA and find your zombie caches someday
  19. Ha...ha... I don't understand how people in our area log their own caches as finds and sign others names as FTF, but it still happens on a regular basis! This hobby never ceases to amaze us...just when you think you've seen it all....
  20. This may sound silly, but I've honestly been thinking about getting a tattoo related to caching...perhaps the gc logo or Signal the Frog or something. I've got a bunch of tattoos already and geocaching has become an important part of our lives over the past 6.5 years, so it only seems natural to pay homage to this hobby with a tattoo...at least for me
  21. I only ask because it seems like ages since we've found some of the older ones. I imagine that there still are a few in circulation, but they're pretty much extinct at this point.
  22. has anyone come across Yellow or White Jeep TBs lately? We still find green and red on a semi-regular basis, but we haven't seen yellow or white in years.
  23. You can get a really good LED flashlight for about $15 at Dicks or Gander Mountain. You wouldn't be going into Nature View Park, would you? We were just there today!
  24. I would hide the cache if I were you....just rate it properly and don't expect a lot of finds. Here is one in our neck of the woods. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...97-a60d30705450
  25. Our first cache placement was Bond Lake Adventure Cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...ed-aaaee077ed39 It was hidden on 8/5/2004 and has 74 finds to date. The cache is a 3-part multi with the total trip being just over 2 miles. We did some maintenance on the cache a few weeks ago and it just reminded us of how much we love this placement; we've always tried to hide caches that we felt we would enjoy finding and continue to follow that motto to this date.
