  1. If you have less than 500 finds, just make a PQ that will find all of your finds. This works for everything minus the archived caches. I do this if I want an update before the MyFinds can be run again. Just select caches that I found, choose a point (like My Home Coordinates) and set the mileage to something crazy like 5000 miles for the radius. You can then merge with GSAK...
  2. So the answer from Groundspeak is "There is currently no way to get an agreement to use them this way" so I guess I can give the tool to folks and tell them how to run their own PQs to datafill......just what we need a bunch more PQs on the system
  3. I had sent an email as well....just figure it might have been asked and answered in the forum already.....Thanks
  4. This is really a question for Jeremy or the powers that be, but I figure I would ask here.... I am building a utility to help manage the challenge caches around Georgia. I am mainly doing it as an excuse to learn windows & asp.net programming. The way it works is I load my set of pockets queries for the state of GA and then load the MyFinds PQ. I can then generate reports for the Back To School challenge, DeLorme Challenge, WellRound Cacher, etc. The report will show what I have done and then what I need to do. For my need to do list it will also show a list of caches that I can use to satisfy those requirements. I have mentioned this to a couple of friends and they said it would be nice to have access to this via the web. I was thinking for my next round to convert it to web based. The catch is I would like to load my PQs from all of GA onto the server side. The user would then load their MyFinds PQ and generate reports. The data that I would give the user in a report is the waypoint and name of cache, nothing else. Would using pocket queries in this way violate the term of use agreement? Please do not answer use GSAK or some other tool....as I stated I am doing this to learn the development environment and I am building the tool anyways. The question is can I share it or must I keep it to myself. Thanks, Jeff
  5. As a youth: I was in cub scouts starting at wolf through Boy Scouts (got to Life ). As an adult: Tiger-Webelos II Den leader, Asst. Cubmaster, Cubmaster, and now Asst. Scoutmaster in my son's troop. I have also been a Unit Commissioner and District Membership Chairman for our district. My son is soon to be a Life scout and if all goes well an Eagle scout in a couple of years
  6. I know the last found date is in GSAK. The problem is it will only show the last found date if one of the logs you have is a found. If the logs in the PQ are notes or DNFs the last found date is blank in GSAK. When I go on vacation or travel for work I will pull some PQs of the area I am going to and I do not have a history of logs to get me that information.
  7. I tired to do a search to see if this was requested, but the searches keep timing out so I figure I would post anyways.... What I would like to see is the last date found added to the GPX file from PQs. I am not looking for tons of extra logs, just the date of the last found. Why? When you look at a cache in GSAK you only know about the last 5 logs. If those were notes or DNFs you are not really sure how long ago it was found last. Sometimes when you see a cache with a few DNFs you might still give it a try if it was found recently (or whatever you are comfortable with) If I look at one with a bunch of DNFs recently but it was found a month back, I might still give it a try. On the other hand if the last real find was a year ago I would probably pass on it. Well thanks for listening.....I hope.......
  8. I use a Gamin 60Csx (which just replaced my 8 year old Garmin GPS12) and a Palm T5. My main concern is that the Palm was not really built to go "off-road". It is a much more delicate device than the 60Csx. It is not waterproof or resistant, and the screen on Palms can crack relativly easily compared to a GPS screen. (I am guessing it is due to touch screen on the palm). Typically, I will take my Palm along if the terrain is not very rugged. When I head to the Mountains to do some trail/off-trail caching, the palm stays in the car. You do not need much in terms of PDA horsepower to run Cachemate. You can also store a lot of cahces in a small amount of memory. I have even toyed with the idea of buying a cheap Palm III from ebay or trying to get my two dead ones working to use for caching..... Good luck on your decision............
  9. I just installed my City Navigator a week or so ago. I have done a few routes with it, but I do have a question.... Let's say I set up a route from Atlanta to New York. Along the way I want to stop and eat at a Cracker Barrel. I am guessing I would do a find to find Cracker Barrel by name. My question is will the software find all Cracker Barrels in the general area or can I say stay within x miles of the route? Also, will it shows the ones in front of me or behind me or both (I am guessing both). Thanks, Jeff
  10. Have any of you done much with making a lake chart? I have made a couple of maps using the procedures outlined here and tey work great. A friend just picked up a 76Csx and we want to make a detailed lake chart. No need to spend $150 or so to pick up Garmin's bluechart when his boats only resides in one lake. I have read some of the help files and such, my biggest question is where can I get lake data (depths, bouys, etc.) Thanks for any help!! Jeff
  11. One more big plus for the Garmin 76 Cx/Csx is that the chipset they use will keep a lock on the satellites even under heavy growth.....makes caching in the summer a lot easier since you are not losing your signal.
  12. I used a Gamin GPS12 for the last 7 or 8 years and I was quite happy. Just recently it has started to fail and I replaced it with a Garmin 60Csx. I chose that model since I will eventually use it for mapping while driving, but most importantly, the new Garmin 60 & 76 series offers the new SiRF III chipset on some of thier models. With the newer chipset, it is super sensitive and I NEVER lose a signal, not matter how dense the tree cover is!!! I can even pick up a strong signal in my basement and inside of my ofice building. I like the expandabiliy of the MicroSD cards and I figured it was only 30-40 more for the full bells & whistle model (compass & altimeter) which I will use once we start hiking with the scouts laer thisyear.... So in my case I spent the money for the chipset and routing capabilities....everyting was gravy
  13. I called Garmin sales a couple of days ago to order NA v7 and they siad it is not in stock and they could not even take a back order from me.....no date as to when it would be in stock...When I asked for NAv8, the said uuhhhh???? Jeff
  14. The only difference between the two unit is: > The 76 comes with a 128M card, they 60 comes witha 64M card > The 76 floats > The case & button layout Other than that they are exactly identical. Same screen size, same tide charts, same base map, same hunting/fishing claendar, etc. They have the same software. Basically someone at Gamin finally realized they could have a great cost reduction program by making the insides identical.....what a concept I did a lot of research on these (a lot of good info at ww.gpspassion.com) two models and decided on the 60Csx just because I liked the form factor better. The memory was not a big of an issue since I will be replacing the card anyway witha 1G card which will hold most of the US (City Navigator) for routing and POI stuff. Jeff
  15. Started with my Garmin GPS12 about 8 years ago...just upgraded to a Gamin GPSMAP 60Csx last week
  16. I just bought my 60Csx last week. Once you factor in shipping and such, I found Amazon to be one of the best prices around at $394. GPS4Sale has it for 372, but once you add shipping it gets it up close to the Amazon price (They may have had a cheaper shipping option, but it was too long for me , I needed mine quick for some trips we are taking.). If you buy from Amazon, keep poking around there and you might be able to get a 3 month free subscription to thier premium service which give your $3.99 overnight shipping
  17. any more info on possible rebates from Garmin....I am about to buy a 60csx so heres to hopeful thinking
  18. For those of you that make your own maps.....do you know of a freeward/shareware tool to convert DLGs to SHP files? I have done a few maps so far to learn the process, but my hang up is adding roads. I do not need detail roads or routable rods, mainly just something onthe maps for a point of reference. Thanks! Jeff
  19. if you can afford it....got with the T/X...built in wifi & bluetooth.....
  20. I need to replace my old Garmin 12. One of the options I am thinkin about is to use a Globstat BT-338 Bluetooth GPS module with my Palm T5 w/Cachemate. Does anyone out there use a setup like this? If so how well does it work for you. Any comments???/ Thanks, Jeff
