  1. 3.9 miles for 200 caches. 8.0 miles for 200 unfound caches.
  2. I'm not sure if I completely understand your problem, but here is what I do. From GSAK, do an Export CacheMate PDB. The next time you do a sync, the CacheMate file will be upload to your Palm. If your problem is that you can no longer sync your Palm, that's another problem. After doing the above routine, you might try dragging the newly created file from your PC to the SD card using a card reader.
  3. .06 miles GC1APDW Peter's Cache It's a nano, with a mirco walk from my house.
  4. 2740.0 miles from Acadia National Park to Simi Valley, CA. I got a few caches near Denali National Park in Alaska and figured they would be farther away than Maine, but those cache were only 2404 miles away.
  5. Los Angeles County Quad Challenge GCZMBD Requirement: Find a cache in each of the 81 USGS quads that make up the county.
  6. I'm the owner of the Los Angeles County Quad Challenge (GCZMBD). It requires finding a cache in each of the 81 USGS quads that make up Los Angeles County. This is quite a challenge---it requires driving hundreds of miles and hours of time. I originally didn't think that I would log it as a find, but then decided to take my own challenge. Because of the work required, I don't think it is a problem logging my own cache as a find. It really isn't about my cache--it's about the work needed to be eligible to log the final cache. Since it's approval on 1 December 2006, only 11 cachers have completed the challenge. I will probably be #12 in a couple of weeks.
  7. Can anyone help me with uploading .gpx files into Google Earth or Google Maps? Thanks in advance.
  8. I haven't received a Notification e-mail in over a week. Here is the response I got from gc.com. Has anyone else had this problem? ============= Sometimes emails from geocaching.com are filtered to a seperate folder from your main inbox. Some ISP's will blacklist geocaching.com and label us as a 'bulk sender'. This is true and false. While we do send emails in bulk, these filters do not distinguish between solicited and unsolicited bulk email. If this is the case you will need to contact your ISP and ask them to allow email from these IP addresses: 66.150.167.133 66.150.167.157 These are the originating IPs for all mail from Geocaching.com.
  9. I was trying to finish off a series of caches that were located in a usually dry river bottom. The few caches left were on the other side of a narrow stream--but not narrow enough to easily jump. I finally found a place that I could jump---a log was the landing spot on the other side. The jump went fine. However, the landing was a bit of a problem. The log was rotten, so as soon as my foot touched it, it collapsed and I was out of balance. No problem, I thought. I'll just take a step or two back into the creek. I figured it was about a foot or two deep. First step, OK. Second step, I was in water up to my armpits. There was a narrow channel in the middle of the creek that was very deep. Quite a surprise.
  10. I have a 500--it's pretty much the same as your 600. To get around the 200 limit, I quit using the Geocache folder and put all my cache waypoint in as POIs. I do it in sets of 500, because that is the limit of a Pocket Query. The only thing you lose in this process is the hints. Not a problem for me because I use Cachemate for that. And you can delete a cache after it has been found. Give it a try.
  11. I use a Brunton with UTM grids. Using a map with UTM gridlines and my GPS, I can pinpoint my location exactly on the topo map. However, in day-to-day geocaching, I rarely have need for my compass.
  12. Sure. Assuming you are a premium member. Go to the My Account page, click on Set Up Notifications and choose the types of caches that you want to be notified about.
  13. Done call. E-mail tech support. That's what I did after giving up on the telephone. I get quick, helpful service. They stick with it until the problem is solved. I've been impressed. Here's the address: magellansupport@thalesnavigation.com
  14. I found a cache inside the Los Angeles Central Library within a few minutes after the library opened its doors. After I logged it, it disappeared within 5 to 10 minutes. We have the timing down because the next several geocachers were right behind me and the cache was gone. So the cache had a life of about 10 minutes.
  15. http://geocraig.blogspot.com/ is my occasionally updated geocaching blog.
  16. I still think this would make a great category and wanted to bump it up from August when I first proposed it.
  17. How do you open the .pdb file with GSAK. I can create them, but I don't know how to go the other direction.
  18. I've lost the URL for the lite version of www.geocaching.com. It's the bare bones version without any graphics suitable for a cell phone Internet connection. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
  19. I'm using the latest version of GSAK. I'll keep trying and let you know how I'm doing. Thanks for the ideas.
  20. I've been using GSAK to load waypoints for cache as geocaches for a long time without a problem. I trying again, without success, to upload the caches in a GSAK database as POIs to the SD card. I've been able to get the .upt file onto the card, but the GPS doesn't read it. Any ideas on how to solve is problem. PS I'm loading it as a POI (.upt) instead of a Geocache (.gs) to get around the 200 waypoint limit. Thanks.
  21. I had a Magellan 310, upgraded to a SportrakPro, then to an eXplorist 500. I've enjoyed them all. The Explorist does have a few quirky things, but hopefully they will be taken care of in the spring software update. I say go ahead and get it.
  22. The recent wildfire in Simi Valley, CA (Topanga Fire) baked my ammo box pretty well. The box was air tight, so when the fire got to it, the air in the box initially expanded enough to bulge out the bottom of the box. Then when it cooled, the box was vacuumed packed. The side of the box were pulled inward. I could open the box until I stuck my knife into the rubber seal to release the vacuum. The contents were pretty much cooked. Plastic items were melted. And this was a pretty fast moving fire and the cache was at least 10 feet away from anything flamable.
  23. I've noticed new waymarks that aren't converted locationless caches. At the same time, I notice the "Not Accepting Proposals." Where are the new waymarks coming from? When are new categories going to be accepted? Has there been a decision regarding the fate of locationless caches (I favor grandfathering them in gc.com)?
  24. I'm not having a problem with the LOAD part of my macro. My problem is with the GETMAIL function. Example: 5 PQs on gmail.com. GSAK goes out, appears to be downloading the PQ files, but they don't show up in the specified folder. Thanks to everyone trying to help. Craig
