  1. Bring your telescope anyway, just in case. You can always leave it in the car if it's cloudy. My tent isn't waterproof either (anymore). You take one end, and we'll take the other.
  2. I am registered for the 2008 MWGB and will be reserving my campsite in the pole barn, right where OKIC camped last year. I saw that T-bird posted a note to the cache page that he had his campsite already picked out and reserved too, but I don't think it is in the pole barn. Where is everyone camping this year?
  3. I bagged 1000 on 04/05/2008 finding GC1AAHK - Eyesore by ARF.
  4. I was hoping you would bring your telescope this time, with ALL of the lenses, but if it's gonna be cloudy and rainy, there will be no sense in that. Moonshimmer and I will be there.
  5. I suggested this a while back here FeatureRequest: Add to Google Calendar, Keeping track of upcoming events. The thread received some conversation, but eventually died. I don't think members care that much about the idea, or TPTB are too busy working on the next version of the site. It is something that I would desperately like to see...
  6. I just spent close to two hours reviewing event caches for Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennesee and placing them in my Google calendar so I can make sure there are no conflicts between the events I would like to attend, and other activities in my life. Today's review is just for the next two months, but as new events are published all the time, I will have to re-compare in about two weeks to make sure I don't miss anything new. I'm sure many people use Google Calendar and would benefit from this feature request. With the requested "Add to Google Calendar" feature this wouldn't be so time consuming. The current "Remember this Date" vCalendar link on each page doesn't work with Google Calendar, but only Outlook and/or Thunderbird. Google Calendar can be viewed from any Web Enable device with Internet connectivity, including the iPhone (which I don't have). Does anyone besides Prime Suspect have anything to say about the requested feature?
  7. I'm curious... How would I know that GS has seen my feature request, and wether or not they think it would be a do-able feature?
  8. IMHO it would be a good idea to remove everything except plain text and pictures in jpg format. I don't necessarily agree with being that aggresive. I use HTML to create a nice and interesting layout for my cache pages. I don't include any third-party code or scripting, just plain HTML. I can agree with stripping out/filtering third-party scripts, java, flash, etc for the protection of the site visitors computers, but their is nothing really harmful with plain old HTML.
  9. Call me curious... Have you come across any listings which contained "java-tools or javascript-tools or flash-tools" or java-applets? Or were you planning on publishing a listing which would contain any of these? I can see where a nice cache hider could use these tools to create an really nice, enhanced experience. I can also see where a malicous coder could use java-applets to do harm to a site visitors computer. Although the enhanced experience would be nice, in the interest of security, I think we should just stick with HTML. Just my $0.02. Keep the change.
  10. That's great! I wish all cops were that friendly.
  11. I have been told, by those who attend the same events that I attend, that only at the events will they share additionaly hints or clues about difficult caches they have hidden. If you don't attend the event, then you can't really ask for additional hints. I think this somewhat promotes the social aspects of Geocaching. I recently attended the same event that Neos 2 attended, and let me tell you, inside information or not, I wouldn't have missed the event for anything. Good food, good conversation, good friends, good times! Always remember that this is just a sport/hobby/obsession, and have a good time! Just my $0.02. Keep the change.
  12. I limit myself to 10 miles from my home location. Simply because I don't want to drive more than that to maintain a cache. But, that's simply my choice, not mandated, as I have a chaching range of about 90 miles.
  13. WOW! They threw in the local carwash for the FTF?
  14. I'm approaching my 1000th find, and I can quite cleary remember every cache that I have found. Not necessarily what I wrote on the log sheet, or what I may have traded or who the hider was, but I can remember where and how it was hidden.
  15. A buddy and I were once searching bushes and trees around an empty parking lot looking for an urban micro, when a black SUV with dark tinted windows pulled up beside us. The driver rolled the window down about half way, held up a badge, and ask us if we were searching for something his dog could help us find. He was DEA! Explaining to him what we were doing, we did ask if we could borrow his dog, but he declined. The next thing we know, he is out of his vehicle, down on his hands and knees, helping us search for the cache. We really wanted to find this cache so we could verify our story, but we DNF'd. We thanked him for his help, and told him we would be watching for his log on GC, but alas, we've seen nothing yet.
  16. It may also be the final location for a puzzle cache. I have found several stop sign micros where the purpose of the puzzle was less about finding the cache, and more about learning about caching or local cachers.
  17. The initial post contained the highlighted section above. Basically, a line that vague scares me. Not that I am out to repost, share, sell, distribute or anything else with the data that comes in a PQ other than use it in GSAK for my caching pleasure. But statements that broad leave a lot of wiggle room for interpretation, and could get someone in trouble for such things as, as you said, allowing someone to hold your GPSr while it contains a derivitave of the data from the PQ. Not that anyone is going to follow you around to make sure that you don't, but it is easier to prove that you did do something, than to prove you didn't. I agree with points three and four of your reply, and I would be fine with that being included in the email containing the PQ results. However, the statement you proposed would need to be refined so as not to be so vague. OK, now I'm just babbeling. Sorry. Edited for HTML issues.
  18. Sombody had the same complaint last week about Yahoo! (read here) I figured it was just the crappy service at Yahoo. Make sure you have not accidentally added the contact@geocaching.com to your blocked senders list.
  19. I'm not sure that is the same thing. I think the not sharing clause of the TOU agreement is meant to (1) discourage people from (re)posting the results of the PQ (.gpx) file to another publicly accessible website for the purpose of dissemination, thus preventing Groundspeak from obtaining a subscription fee, and (2) discourage cacher from sharing that same information with non-premium members, again preventing Groundspeak from obtaining a subscription fee. I don't know if that applies to family members, or guest, of the premium member, but I like to think that it doesn't. It would be kind of sucky for me to take a friend out to introduce him to geocaching, but not let him use the information in my GPSr or PDA device to locate the cache because he hadn't yet signed up for a premium account. Same for taking my family out with me. Why would they want to go, if they couldn't help find the cache? Edited to fix BB Code issue.
  20. Maybe. That is, the link may take you an "accept or decline", or it may take to the the GC.com front page. If you go to your account, click on the Friends link (upper right) , come to another page with a "pending friends" link. As I have found from experience using the Friends feature, sometimes the link doesn't work in the email message received by your "friend". They may receive a 404 Page Does Not Exist error when they click on the link.
  21. Actually, TPTB said that while the feature is there, it is in no way guaranteed to work, as it isn't really finished yet. What we currently see is just a taste of what they are planning for in the future. But currently there is no "release date" for the rest of the feature. Could be a while. KRnlKilR
  22. You are only allowed to choose ten (10) attributes when hiding a cache. This forces the hider to choose only the most relevant attributes pertaining to his/her cache. If I were hiding a cache, and had to choose between more than the ten allowed, Needs pen would not be one of my selections, seeing as I would expect most cachers to be carrying their own. Perhaps a "You will most likely lose the pen you have on your way to find this cache" attribute would be appropriate for all of the caches I seek. KRnlKilR
