  1. Don't think I made it, but just in case... FountainB Thanks!
  2. I wondered if anyone could point me to geocaches that are located in airports. From time to time I do a little traveling, and we once experienced a 9 hour delay in Chicago. We later found out there was a cache there, and that would have given us a little something to do! I imagine there may not be many because of security reasons, but if there are any, please let me know. Our next trip will have us at airports in Charlotte, NC; Chicaco; San Francisco and Washington-Dulles. Thanks!

  4. We were in a national forest yesterday and found a cache near a historical cemetary in the woods. The cache was tastefully placed away from the graves. While hubby searched (he's the one who found it.) I looked at the graves. I ended up doing some internet research and found that the young mother and child who were memorialized there had died in a landslide in 1916. I also found that there was major flooding in that area at that time. It connected me to some Carolinian history. I never would have gone there if not for geocaching. I think that caches placed respectfully can help us learn a little something about the depth of our history, and remind us that life is not just about US.
  5. Update from FountainB: after further caching, our "best" prize is probably still the "cash." We find a lot of useless items unfortunately. We have started leaving a signature item. I paint small wooden things like hearts or mini signs, so I've taken to leaving them, often with something like "Geocachers are 'Coordinated' written onto them and FountainB SC on them. My husband's best two are a highlighter and a USA eraser. Not because they are special in themselves, but because they are from two caches that he found the "purist" way--using only the GPS--no clues, logs or printouts. Also, these were in a national forest, and he loves the outdoors. So, I see what you mean about sentimental value. Thanks for all the responses. They've been interesting. Keep them coming--and let's all try to trade even or up, starting a trend for nicer SWAG.
  6. I'm curious to hear about some of the best trade items you've ever picked up from a cache. So far, we've logged 13 finds. The best trade item so far has been a $1.00 bill. Many of our finds have been micros so obviously we couldn't trade anything.
  7. Thanks all. We are getting the hang of it now. We've found over 10 and most of those were micros!
  8. I have little wooden signs (you can buy unfinished ones at craft stores), paint them and put some saying like "Geocaching is Fun" or Geocachers are Coordinated!" (made that up.) And I usually list our web site. If people look at it, they see our pic.
  9. Thank you for the quick reply! We tried a difficulty 3 today and DNF. But, we'll figure it out.
  10. We have just started Geocaching. What do the numbers above the sizes mean? (i.e. 1/1, 2.5/2) etc? We looked in four spots today. Found 2. The other 2 were micros and stumped us, but we will try again.
