  1. Anyone out there called garmin and asked if or what they are going to do to fix the problems with the colorado?, if so what did they say? which of the problems are they trying to fix, or do they deny the problems exsist altogether.
  2. I own a vista cs and I like it alot I mostly use a 60 for caching because my vista is not an H model (high senitivity), I work at REI and have raced the 60 csx and the HCX vista and was suprised that in some conditions the vista HCX wins over the 60 CSX, the new H antenna is actually less affected buy signal bounce and is more stable in areas where there are a lot of things to bounce sat signals around, like power lines tree branches tall walls, but only when your right up on those objects, the other units under yours like the legend lacks the compass altimiter and barometer, so you should be happy with your choice in the end you would want these things and would be willing to pay the 40$ to add those feachers to the legend, the summit and the venture only get 14 hrs on batteries vista legend 25 hrs. nor do they take external memory, so I say you did good and be happy.
  3. Ok folks I've looked through the posts and I was sure the subject has come up but couldn't find it, so I'm backpacking/hiking and geocaching, which unit would you get if you were buying it now the colorado or 60csx, I'm looking for different oppinions, I work at REI so I have above avarage knowledge but all of you may know more since your in this forum, I've used the 60cs alot for geocaching (the stores not mine) I own a vista cs but I'm not sure if the colorado is worth getting yet?, it has so many problems when caching but they may address them like the ones on early 60 series, I'm not in a big hurry to get a new unit so waiting will be ok with me, all opinions welcome thank you.
  4. Ok I know about the short battery life, what is about the colorado that like and what is it you dislike, please tell me both.
  5. I know I'll catch flak for this but, GC allows you to log your own caches as a find, is this allowed, after all it is more work to hide a cache than it is to find one, so many people care about having the highest number of finds, that maby giving them credit toward that number for hiding a cache would encourage more people to hide them and we would have more caches to find, I know some people would abuse this and hide crapy caches but some may get into hidding them more, well I love hidding mine I think I may actually prefer it. I just want your opinion not an argument. (by the way as I said above you can already do this).

  7. I did not read all the replies here but I would have to say that it world be nice if everyone tried to place a number of caches bad or good, they don't all have to be great hides, its just nice to have enough caches out there so you don't have to drive 20 miles to find new caches with these gas prices, if every tries to hide some we will have some good ones and some alright ones alike so what as long as there are enough to keep us going, the cachers around here kill theirs off in a year or so and put new out to keep it fresh, you don't have to have a lot of new caches to find in your area but it makes us happy here.
  8. I think people lose the spirit of caching by being obsessed with FTF's, geocaching is not a compatition, a little competing is ok but some people get too carried away, I know a guy how uses his sick days for them, and others who won't bother with a cache if someone logs it before they can get there. I won't place a path tag in my new caches until after the FTF so others get a reward for finding my cache and the FTF just get an acronym typed on a web page.
  9. Ok sounds like you picked up an osprey backpack, perhaps an aura 50 or 65, nice pack although it does not have enough support in the belt, the belt is not supported by a stiff materal like plastic or something (I work for the store mentioned above and fit packs every day, I think you need the gregory deva 60 its the queen of comfort and was picked along with its brother the baltoro in backpacker magazines gear guide as the best all around pack, I sell it 10 to 1 over the other packs the padding on that pack should do the trick I haven't been wrong in the whole 2 and a half years I've been doing this. I hope this helps if I can help at all just shoot me an email through the G C site, my name is Todd or team sixgun on G C.
  10. thanks folks, for the info and anyone wants to go caching give me a shout at toddprosky@yahoo.com
  11. I work for REI and sell them daily, and have many of my own, both bulb and LED (I get some freebees) and my favorite is the tikka xp, it's smaller and lighter than the ones that use a seperate battery compartment makeing it easier to carry and more comfortable, you can also get the tactikka xp with 4 differant colored lenses allowing you to be stealthy if you need to, I hope that helps.
  12. Are there any cachers in my area I-75 and 696 approx. looking to hunt caches if so give me a shout.
  13. I'm in Michigan and would love to if any here wants give me shout.
  14. I agree go with the garmin etrex h 99$ I work for REI and sell GPS every day I am trained to know the differance between units, another good unit is the foretrex 101 both have computer connections but the etrex uses a standard usb cable making it easier to download caches, if you need help my name is Todd and I work at rei troy, I do not make commision and will help if you need it. good luck Todd
  15. I also use a messenger bag they are nice because they hang across your back at a angle and you can swing it aroung when you need something some of them are even water proof around 70 $ by timbuk 2 or the one I use is from a surpluss store for 20 $ its cheap but I just like the way it looks.
  16. I am unable to print the geocache map of my area, all that I get when I click print is 7 usless pages 1 of which contains a small strip of the map, I'm sure its posible I just don't know how to use the print preview or other functions to make it work, please help thank you.
