  1. So now we are curious about pocket queries, anyone have some info regarding these. I know you have to be a premium member to get them, but beyond that - - - - - - what is the benefit of having them? Why would you only be allowed to get 5 a day? Do you just download them to your Palm Pilot for use when you are out in the boonies searching for the cache ? Thanks for your help!
  2. WELL that is a combination - - my hubby and me! Guess you are just a whimsical guy!
  3. I wonder who will find and fix this problem? If you go to Map It and check out the area to the west of Mount Rushmore and Keystone on the map. It says there is a whole area labeled Hot Springs Nat'l Cemetary. THERE is no cemetary there. The map is wrong and it is misleading especially to people who are not familiar with this area in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Thanks!
  4. Hi! We have placed a cache in this area and we are also the "keepers" (or watchdogs) for our son's cache in this same area. SO, now, to complicate things, we sold our house and are moving from this area. I did contact one of our local cachers, who is very active, to see if he/she would adopt our two caches. I rec'd an email from them saying they would adopt our caches - - NOW what? Does something have to be changed on www.geocaching.com to show that they are now being watched and cared for by someone else?? Thanks to everyone who replies. Happy caching!
  5. Well, phooey, I just tried to do that - - remove the missing stuff from the inventory list and it is still there. It is all listed there just like it is really in the cache - - - I am about to give up! Thanks for your help - - but it didn't work! When you mark it missing and click "Go", the page refreshes, and the top of the page (right under the TB name) will now say "Are you sure you want to mark this trackable item missing?" You have to to click "Yes" to complete the process. It's not a pop-up or anything very obvious, so it's very easy to miss. I didn't notice it the first time I tried to mark something missing, and got quite frustrated until I finally saw it. Thanks so much for your reply!! And as usual, I just didn't give myself enough time for the inventory list to be updated! (always in too big a hurry!) Anyway, the inventory list did get updated and I appreciate hearing from you. Thanks again! Happy Caching in 2008!
  6. Well, phooey, I just tried to do that - - remove the missing stuff from the inventory list and it is still there. It is all listed there just like it is really in the cache - - - I am about to give up! Thanks for your help - - but it didn't work!
  7. Cool, lurking! Never thought of it as that, but it is a good way to check out what people are saying and thinking without getting into the middle of it all. Just like going incognito somewhere with big fat dark sunglasses on! Ha! Merry, Merry! (wish someone would help us with our travel bug/geo-coin dilema, tho!)
  8. Here goes - - and I don't wanna be a Grinch or a Scrooge BUT - - - - Why do people almost always SCREW up the bugs and coins??? First off, we have a cache and cachers (maybe newbies) take bugs in and out, in and out, and never log them. AND they do take them and never put it into the system so that shows they have them, then it looks like the bugs and coins are still in our cache when they are NOT! I don't know of any way to get them off of the list of what is in the cache since I don't have access to them. It is a bummer to go to a cache looking for a bug (when it was listed that it was in the cache) and it isn't there and was probably taken out a long time ago! Isn't there a better system to get this problem solved?? I think it is the pits - - Oh well, anyone with any ideas - - (Also one of our bugs disappeared and - - sob, sob, probably will never be seen again!) Merry, Merry and Happy New Year!
  9. We geocache because it is fun to do and we can do it together! We especially like finding Travel Bugs or Geo coins and then finding another cache to put them in! We like to Cache In and Trash Out if it isn't tooooo yucckky - - one of the last ones we were in had human excrement near the cache!! Oh brother!
  10. WELL, I hate to cause a commotion, but our cache is in the Beautiful Black Hills -- in the hills, where it doesn't get hot, so nothing is gonna melt and our cache is a cleaned out doggy treat plastic jar with a screw on lid, so YES, optimistic as I am - - - - - I don't think any animal could get into it! Thanks for your concern! Peanuts?? I think you could be amazed at the ingenuity of some creatures. I have no idea what you used for a container but I cannot help but wonder if your optimism is, um, misplaced.
  11. I agree with this comment! One man's junk may be another's treasure! And the main fun of cache-ing is just the beauty of the hike and the fun in finding the cache. If everything in the cache has to be very valuable and not just for fun --- well - that takes away from some of the fun. I say if you don't like what is in the cache ---- well, then just don't take any of the stuff. Or better yet, leave something you think is valuable. I say let's not get too picky about what is in the cache. Let's just do cache-ing for the fun of it, and enjoy nature in the process!
  12. OOps, I can see how peanuts might be a problem, but like everything some things are ok and some are not, in our instance there is no way any animal might get into our cache! So ours isn't a problem, but I can see if it wasn't an airtight container and/or had some cracks in it -- well, then peanuts might be a problem! We are probably going to get some geocoins or travel bugs, that makes the find even more fun! THANKS once again for everyone's comments! Keep on cache-ing! Peanuts??
  13. Thanks everyone for the fun -- We will be watching to see who else finds "our" cache! Until then -- remember it is easy to "CACHE" the geocaching fever!
  14. Ok - we get up to the Black Hills regularly and was just wondering where the new cache might be? Thanks for your note, yes, we are in the Beautiful Black Hills -- and our cache is titled Daisy's Treats! Have fun finding it! AND guess what - - someone found it today!! Yea! This is so cool and fun! We have found about 4 caches in the Black Hills too, lots of BEAUTIFUL hiking. Once we were even chased by wasps or bees! Also saw a mountain goat!
  15. Ohhh sorry, our new cache is under another name. Our son, who is a great adventurer, turned us into geocachers and we are just getting started. Yes, it was ok'd and ready for someone to find, b ut it is listed under his name. Thanks for your helpful info, tho!
  16. Oh yea, I will be sure to go get some of our gold (Black Hills Gold to be exact) to add to the cache. Thanks for your humor and I will try (TRY) to be patient! Patience is a virtue!!
  17. We just hid our own cache, and I am so anxious for someone to find it and comment on it! Wish it would happen soon. Any ideas from anyone on how to make it more appealing to the crowd??
