  1. Not always, there are people that will set out to muggle a cache. I suspect most of us have a different name for those people.
  2. Seems to me that just ignoring him would be easiest.
  3. I've never been offended by anything I found in a cache. Well, not quite true. This Cache kind of irritated me, but the irritation came not from the contents, but rather the very high quality of the contents. The hider loaded it with really good loot, including some brand new tools better than anything I have in my garage. The irritation was along the lines of "This makes the loot in my cache (which I had thought pretty good) look absolutely pathetic! How am I supposed to compete with this!?!?!" I was the FTF on it, so I saw it in its best condition. By now it's probably full of broken McToys and bead necklaces, just like all the other caches in the world.
  4. As of this past weekend, a scooter. A big honking scooter. Suzuki Burgman 650. That's my favored vehicle. As backup, in bad weather, taking several people, etc, I can always take my minivan.
  5. I just bought a Suzuki Burgman 650 maxi-scooter, which gets something around 50 mpg. Now all I need is to take the motorcycle license test, and I'll be caching on my nice new wheels.
  6. One of the greatest web design crimes is to resize the visitor's web browser window! Bad web site. BAD!
  7. I'd hazard to guess that the indigenous population of Central America that was wiped out by Spaniards hell-bent on spreading Christianity would fully agree with that assessment.
  8. It is exceedingly rare that lawsuits are brought regarding displays on private property. It is when these displays appear on public property that trouble follows. I suspect you're aware of the distinction, and simply chose to ignore it in the hopes that no one would catch on. I find it offensive indeed when the Constitution is violated. I know a lot of people would like to do away with the establishment clause. I trust you're not among them?
  9. Only insofar as my point was aimed at a larger situation than just tracts placed in caches. I wonder if, in the entire history of religious tracts, anyone was ever legitimately converted by reading one? I mean, since we're bandying about the word "ridiculous", placing tracts with the hope that it will make a convert or win a place in heaven or whatever the justification is, that surely goes well beyond ridiculous, and into absurd.
  10. And vice versa. The difference being that the mainstream ones (think they) have the political clout and the moral right to dictate behavior to the other group.
  11. Not in the list, but mentioned in the thread. I'm approximately a Wiccan cacher. At least conceptually, if not in regular practice. Perhaps neo-solitaire-eclectic-Wiccan is closer. Or maybe neo maxi zoom dweebie. That's probably right on the money. Pagan, anyway, by any reasonable definition. And I'm nothing if not reasonable.
  12. Again?!?!?! I just came from a pit of fire and brimstone!
  13. I would think that if he was interested in taking the high ground, he wouldn't have started by attacking you. He sort of tossed any claim to the high ground by doing so
  14. I do a lot of caching at night. Strictly a coincidence, I assure you. It doesn't mean anything. These aren't the droids you're looking for.
  15. And here I thought that trash was the reason people didn't trade. Hmmm.
  16. IMO, that's one of the great embarrassments of Wicca: the adherents who insist it's an ancient religion, when in fact it is a very recent invention that simply draws on ancient sources (and modern sources, as well). It's as if there's an insecurity about the religion, that a religion has to be old to be valid. Obvious nonsense, as all religions were new at one point. Of course, there are those who will dismiss Wicca precisely because it is new, but they are making the exact same mistake. The other great embarrassment of Wicca is the names. Lady Moonwalker Darktoast, etc. I mean, come on. What's wrong with "Sally" or "Robert"? Why do so many Wiccans insist on picking names that sound like they come from the Fuzzy Bunny Crystal Pagan Random Name Generator? /rant. I could really use a decent weekend. Sigh.
  17. Well, yeah, I would too - the Chick Tracts are classics of comedic entertainment!
  18. If it's good for the goose, it should be good for the gander :-)
  19. It would be ridiculous if it were accurate. Generally speaking, an atheist isn't offended by the concept of God. He's offended by having that concept, and the related religious claptrap, continuously foisted upon him by believers. An atheist may believe you are a fool for your beliefs, but by and large he won't care unless and until you try to bring your beliefs to bear on his life. I have some experience in this, as I was an atheist for many years. I no longer am, but as a member of a decidedly minority faith, I find that I still share a concern with the atheists - namely, I don't want anyone to force their religion or religious values on me.
  20. So, if the cache owner went instead, how is that any different in practical terms? Is he not just as likely to be caught as rbennitt, who was simply trying to help a stranger?
  21. Not terribly stale, though. The most out-of-date from 18 PQs would be no more than 4 days old. While lots of changes can occur in 4 days, the chances of any specific cache having been archived is fairly low. I suspect most of us often go caching with data less recent than that. Still, a "get-em-all-for-a-small-fee" feature would be nice for those who could/would use it.
  22. I did, but I expect you're right about the 5% ceiling.
  23. Sorry, no, it'll take a lot more than that to impress an old Usenet junkie like me You could maybe try comparing me to Hitler. That's always a hoot!
