  1. Martin Don't apologise, you were very restrained. I think many of us have enjoyed and benefitted from all your hard work over the years so a big thank you goes out to you, and completely understand and support the new regime. Best
  2. As with others could I also pass on my thanks for all your work on these, and for sharing. Simple fantastic. Thank you so much! In part these maps where one of reasons why I have just "upgraded" from a 60csx to an etrex 20. Anyway in case anyone else has been trying to do this (and actually on hindsight it was obvious why it didn't work) but I don't think on a "separate profiles" device (e.g etrex 20) that you can load all of these at the same time. 1. UK contours file 2. British isles (without contours) 3. New look and feel version Obvious really as I now understand that the contours file (1. above) is essentially included in the new look version, and so conflicts on the gps boot up. Talkytoasters FAQ deals nicely with the situation where you might just want 2. and 3. above, but not also 1. [Talkytoaster, I also confirm that the FAQ is spot on for an etrex 20, which you might already expect if a 30 works] What I was trying to achieve was having profiles: a - basemap with just contours (for pure "uncluttered" walking purposes) b - British Isles without contours c - British Isles with contours d - New look - as it is simply awesome in detail Not a great issue, but had me scratching my head for a bit. I've just removed the new look beta for the moment. Edit: and before someone asks I tried "both" versions of the new look files - but both seemed to include contours. I'm not at my normal PC but I think there were the 20120720 versions.
  3. There has been some activity in the background which if it comes to fruition will see G:UK come back more secure and able to handle the No's of caches. Interesting..... any update on what "might" be happening ? Cheers
  4. Works for us.. Are you doing the following: 1. do your search (as normal) 2. on the results page make a note of your id (or copy (ctrl+c) the "&u=ABCD" bit) 3. Select the "remove found" button 4. in the address box now paste/type your &u=ABCD at the end of the new address (no gaps) 5. hit enter, and all should be good (well this is what we do) PS thanks to molrams for originally finding this work round. I had also posed a question earlier in the thread about searching for, in particular, "hidden after dates" etc. As a sort of work round this is sort of still possible if once you do primary search (as above) you then list in "placed" order by clicking on that column title. Rather obvious really but completely missed me until yesterday... derrrr! HF's
  5. Soooo good to have this back!!!! Thanks for all your efforts. Just to feedback some seen "issues" 1. Under the search criteria if you select and enter an "after date" and run this, you get an error. 2. Seem to be getting some odd results on a search result page in that you select the "remove found" button while does seem to alter the number of total items at the top right of the page (although not the number I would expect), but if does not remove found items in the listings below. Cheers Happy Ferreters
  6. Thanks to one and all for the suggestions (and useful links)... in the end went with a Berghaus e-case (large) see attached as example link (i.e. never used this supplier) http://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/eshop.asp?wci...amp;affid=48181 GPS60csx fits perfectly highwise (especially given the antenna), has a little wiggle room left and right but is held tightly front to back Nice thing about it is that it is a hard case and so gives some additional protection. In the field works well so far. Now to find something for a PPC(in a aquapac) for the other shoulder. I have a feeling this will be more problematic...
  7. Ebay, or the States. Even if you do get caught by duties in my experience it is sooo mcuh cheaper than any UK price.
  8. Thanks for this. Yes it is a shame that it is now a clip closure and not still velcro!!
  9. Would anyone be able to recommend a case which can 1. hold snuggly a 60csx 2. can be fixed (securely!!) to a rucksack's shoulder webbing (2.5cm) in an upright position 3. provide easy access to the GPSr (the case remains on the shoulder) , but provides some security so that the unit doesn't fall out accidently 4. has (preferably) UK availability? I've found the "Berghaus GPS case" while surfing e.g http://www.tiso.com/navigation/accessories/gps_carry_case which comes in two sizes (yet to work out which would be best) - any experiences with this or others? Thanks in advance Happy Ferreters
  10. Have you tried zooming in to about 800 ft resolution or less? HF's
  11. Thanks Bambi - some useful items there (as usual I hadn't used the right search terms in the first place otherwise might have spotted these) I didn't think that Metroguide Europe would autoroute but will look further into IMG2GPS. Much appreciated. Cheers Happy Ferreters
  12. My first post. Rather pleased that this thread was "reopened" as it gives the opportunity to sort of re-ask the first question. Is there a UK source from which you can purchase City Navigator Europe V8, or is it simply you have to buy for the US (and take you chance that it comes with unused unlock codes)? If the latter any recommendations? Also would appreciate thoughts on whether City Navigator the right way to go anyway? As I understand it City Navigator gives you essentially the whole of Europe with road autorouting. Topo GB gives the same road autorouting but for the UK only, and provides OS info/contours on top (although paths and similar are not that complete cf os maps!). Full Euro autorouting would be a very nice to have but not essential. If I am therefore starting from stratch (as I am) should I just go for the TOPO GB mapping? Simply confused... Happy Ferreters
