  1. This is just a reminder that nominations for the position of Chairman of GAGB end at midnight tomorrow (Sunday). --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  2. Yes. The Returning Officer and I will be checking user names and email addresses of voters to ensure all voters are members of GAGB itself, and if there are any uncertain ones I'll pursue them. In your case of course, I know you're genuine anyway! Members who haven't logged in for six months or a year, I forget which offhand, become lapsed, but only have to log in again to renew. It keeps a lot of dead wood out of the way - the people who do a cache or two, sign up, and then lose interest.
  3. So why all the "bumping"? Because in the past we've had complaints that we haven't publicized our elections sufficiently.
  4. Voting will be by email to our Returning Officer. I'll announce full details in GAGB's forums nearer the date. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  5. Steve Cole, who was co-opted onto our committee as joint webmaster and treasurer, has resigned due to pressure of work. I'm going to act as treasurer as an interim measure until the elections. I'm pleased to be able to announce that we've co-opted Ian (studlyone) onto the committee as a new joint webmaster. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  6. GAGB's annual elections are due to take place in November. Details can be found here. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  7. GAGB's annual elections are due to take place in November. Details can be found here. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  8. Greenwich Park is a place I used to know well long before caching ever came into existence. I think it's a great shame that caches are banned there now, as it's a beautiful place and well worth visiting, but I don't think we're going to change anybody's mind over this. I see no harm in polite emails to those who manage it, but I'd be very surprised if they brought about any change. No blame should be attached to the reviewers here - if it's brought to their attention that a land owner or manager has specifically stated that they don't want caches on their land then they have no choice but to archive any that are there. Gc.com's guidelines specifically state that a cache should have permission, and in a situation like this those caches clearly didn't have.
  9. I agree with Hazel and with Alex, too. I started in September 02, and I soon felt I knew, if not in person then at least online, every cacher in my area and everyone who used the forums. Now, as Chairman of GAGB, I'm validating new members every day, and quite a few of them turn out to have been registered on gc.com for some years but I've never even heard of them. And as to my view of the numbers game, well, the fact that I'm on a mere 253 should speak for itself...! But I've enjoyed doing (almost) all of them, and I think I can remember every single one of them!
  10. Done!! Now when someone that doesn't know I asked first, complains that the pushy Groundspeak lackey edited their thread you guys can defend me. Michael, thanks for doing that! And yep, we'll come to your defence, lol...! --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  11. Michael, thanks for the offer, and yes, please do change the link in the OP. In fact there are two links to our forums in that post, so perhaps you wouldn't mind a doubled workload, lol...! --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  12. Big congratulations, Jo and Geoff, on both those things!
  13. We're pleased to announce that our website now has a whole new look to it, and our new forums have a skin to match that, thus giving the website and the forums an integrated look that they've never had before. If you find you're not seeing the new look in our forums then take a look at my post in our General forum. And do likewise if you don't like the new look and would prefer to go back to the old one. GAGB would like to thank Ian (studlyone), who offered to do this redesign for us, and who has put in a lot of work getting it up and running despite some substantial database problems that have caused him more than a few headaches! --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  14. The Wessex Geocachers forums are open to all, but are principally aimed at cachers in Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset and Bristol. I'm not involved with WG other than being a member of their forums, but I thought they deserved a mention here.
  15. The Geocaching Association of Great Britain is a national organization covering, despite our name, the whole United Kingdom. The GAGB aims to establish good caching practice, and support the growth and enjoyment of Geocaching in harmony with the law and the environment. We have a database of blanket caching agreements with landowners in the UK, and we try to include all major agreements whether or not they were drawn up by GAGB. We also have forums which are open to cachers everywhere, though naturally most, but not all, of our forum members are in the British Isles. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  16. I daresay some oldtimer will come along n explain it all to us newbies soon, Moss...
  17. Oops, you were right, T.R.a.M.P., the permissions were wrongly set, probably as a result of the forum migration - I've now reset them. If anyone still can't follow that link post here or PM me and I'll take another look. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  18. Big congratulations...! I got halfway round that one some time ago, but ran out of time, and I haven't had the opportunity to go back yet.
  19. It's been giving me caches in Italy for some time now if I use the main search page, but if I choose "by country/United Kingdom" and then choose "by postcode" on the next page, that works normally.
  20. Dave, I tried your link, but it wouldn't work for me and before you ask, yes I'm logged in to GAGB forums...... I think that might have been a temporary hiccup - the link's working for me.
  21. When I post in the pinned topic I only duplicate it (with the long-standing knowledge and approval of the mods, though of course I realize that things have changed a bit there) when I feel the post is something of general interest, rather than GAGB specific, that might be missed by those who don't read the pinned GAGB thread. It seems to me that a new forum devoted to events is perhaps of general interest.
  22. This is for the benefit of those who don't read pinned posts. By request, GAGB have added a new forum to our forums specifically for the discussion of caching events, with a sub-forum for Mega Events. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  23. By request, we've added a new forum to GAGB'S forums specifically for the discussion of caching events, with a sub-forum for Mega Events. --- Bill, Chairman GAGB
  24. Clyde and Bill D (wwh) seperated at birth? see the pictures above! Ah, but which one is the real 'us'
  25. For the last few hours I hadn't been able to get in at all, but it's now working intermittently and extremely slowly. I don't think they feed the hamsters on Sundays. Or perhaps kewfriend's right about the usb, lol...!
