  1. The Topo maps do not have autorouting info. For that you;ll need City Navigator.
  2. If you go to the link in ThePropers post listed above, it'll step you through using different icons for multi's using GSAK.
  3. There's alot to be said about brand loyality. As car navigation becomes more popular and friends and family are looking to get car navigation units, they will seek out the advice of people who use GPS. If you've talked about caching to them, then you'll most likely be asked for advice. If there's a company who's done well by you as a cacher, then you'll be likely to recomand that company.
  4. I just mark them as missing (unknown loctation). I doubt TPTB would change anything since they are designed to travel and not be part of a personal collection.
  5. I have a Li-Ion setting in my 60csx. Perhaps this was added in a firmware update? I have not used Li-Ion batteries in mine, so I can't tell you if you still need to drain the batteries a little.
  6. If I need to look up the time/date now, I'll go to the menu where it's on the bottom of the screen. I'm just saying it'd be nice if it would display it on the screen. I also use a palm, so the hint section isn't high on my priority list. I have that thread bookmakerd and it's come in very handy. Thank you for the work you put into it. Works great on both the 60CSx and Quest2. I'll add your suggestion to the list.
  7. I've seen a couple other threads on the 60csx and other units where people said they'd like to see an improved geocaching mode. I was curious as to what features people wanted to see. Here's a list of some things I'd like to see: 1) Multiple cache icons. I use different icons for multis and micros, so I'd like to be able to include them in the geocaching mode. How about having a user selectable number of cache types? (up to five seems reasonable to me). 2) Hint data field. Something seperate from the note field. Having the ability to recode ROT13 would be a plus 3) When you select found, have it display the time and date. I can never remember the date when I'm filling out a cache log. 4) Add the geocache mode to the Quest line. 5) After you found it, have an option to display the nearest caches, rather than just go to next closest. I don't always want to go to the nearest one. (From ThePropers) 6) GPX Vewing Utility (From TeamHarrison) 7) Additional data fields (From Geobc) Feel free to add to my list. Maybe if Garmin has people that monitor these boards or if we pester them enough, they can get some of these added. Bug
  8. I have a car charger for my mp3 player that uses a USB connection, and I power my 60csx off it.
  9. I would think if the G-man wanted to get into the pocket of geocachers, the way he would do it would not be by trying to control the game, but by controling the sattelites. The DoD owns the sattelites, so there's nothing saying they couldn't require a fee to use them. It would devistate the industry (espically with all the car nav units that are being pusshed this Christmas) but it could be done...

    FTFC

Make something personal to you or your cache. For my caches, I leave a FTF poker chip. I use silver foil labels on black chips. The front side is my avaitar (which is also the front side for my regular signature chips). The back side I make something related to the cache.
  11. There was another thread about this a little bit ago. I don't thing anyone ever came up with a consensious. Here's how I labeled mine: Bug's Crazy Fish Coin Bug
  12. Out of curiosity, have you let Garmin know of your suggestions? I've e-mailed them before with a coupe of my suggestions for both the 60csx and the Quest2. The say they are forwarded off to the appropriate places. Perhaps if Garmin gets enough of the same suggestions, They'll work it into a firmware update or into the next model.
  13. I love mine. I was previously using a Quest 2, and there's no comparison when it comes to performance for caching. I'd like to be able to set the orientation (i.e. uisng it sideways instead of upright when in the car). If I could do that, I'd get a mount for it for my work truck and use it for autorouting and just leave the Q2 in my personal truck.
  14. I got mine today and the coin looks great.
  15. I have one of your early chips. I'll have to keep an eye out for one of your hand painted ones. That sounds cool. Bug
  16. None that I know of. For general camping stuff, there's a Gander Mountain in Tonawanda (near GCXK8E). Bug
  17. Sorry to see you go. I recently moved one of your bugs and I enjoyed the messages I got when I picked it up and dropped it off.
  18. 1. Hold down OK until you get the Where Am I. 2. Hit OK again to save. This will take you to the "Saved as My Location" Screen 3. Arrow down unitl the coordinates are highlighted. 4. Hit Ok. This brings up a number keypad. 5. Edit your coordinates, select done when finished. 6. If you want, change the symbol and name. 7. Select OK on bottom of screen. 8. You can now get this waypoint from the My Locations when you hit Find. Hoped this helped. Bug
  19. I was able to log a cache after lunch (around 1pm EST), but can't get on now (4:15 EST)
  20. I try to stick to trails and parks that do not allow hunting. That being said, I'll still wear an ornge vest just in case.
  21. I don't have a 1 GB card to try it out on, but I selected all the US, Canada, and Puetro Rico and Mapquest shows it as taking up 946.6 MB.
  22. To be perfectly honest, the second message would make me not want to return it. i would think a name, address and phone number would be the best. Then if an honest person finds it, he/she will try to return it. If a dishonest person finds it, it doesn't matter what you have on it, you won't get it back.
  23. As to the issue of no celphones vs celphone for saftey: I highly doubt anyone would have a problem if you have a cel phone, turned off, in your bag or emergencies. Should you break a leg or need assistance, then turn on the phone and call for help.
  24. You could take the large sum of money that you were going to pay toward a lifetime membership and put it into an account and have paypal pull your annual or monthly subscription out of that. If you do $500, that will give you over 13 years at current prices. By then, I'm sure the sport of geocaching will have come and gone and be replaced by something bigger and better (and run by a different site)
