  1. Back on the topic of the new search... This is minor annoyance... when I use the search filter "Hidden by", the map stays centered on my location. I have to zoom out to see the caches. It would be nice if the map would recenter on the caches. This is particularly annoying when I'm making a bookmark list for another state and I have too zoom way out and then back in on the right area. EDIT: MY bad.... wrong post. Sorry.
  2. Noticed something else... I don't have access to my Pocket Queries. Is this intentional?
  3. Small discrepancy bug... If I go to Play -> Search -> click Magnifying Glass, I get the new map. If I got to Play -> View Map, I get the old map
  4. A couple of quick thoughts It would be nice if I could hide the side panel like the old map. While I can click on the More Info arrow and open it in a new tab, it would be nice if it auto opened in a new tab. Did all the Leaflet maps disappear? I'm only seeing an option for three maps currently (Geocaching, Google Road Map and Google Satellite) . I use the Topo map all the time.
  5. Are the two TB's owned by the same person? If not, I would separate them and move them on independently.
  6. My algorithm 1) Has opted in to a reward system (Note: this only lasts 1 calendar year and you have to opt in again) 2) Premium member 3) Has never been suspended 4) Has logged at least 50 caches 5) Has logged at least 5 caches of the reward type 6) Has placed at least 1 cache Why these 6? It shows a desire on the part of the cacher. This is also 100% within their control.
  7. I do get a chuckle out of this on the website: "Best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, FireFox 1.0, or Netscape 7.2"
  8. Thread hijacking when a new thread might be a better option.
  9. The one requirement of a Webcam cache is to have your picture taken with the webcam. This and this alone is what made them special. You want to take a selfie with a webcam? That sounds like a virtual to me.
  10. 2.7. Webcam Caches Webcam Caches are a grandfathered type of cache. You cannot submit new Webcam Cache pages for review, but you can find those that remain active and log them. To log a Webcam Cache, follow these steps: At the posted coordinates, stand within view of the associated webcam. Go to the website that shows the webcam feed. If the webcam is not in service you cannot claim your “find” online. Follow the instructions on the cache page. Sometimes the cache owner will require you to pose in a specific location or in a specific way. Use your phone to capture a screenshot of the webcam image or arrange for a friend to take a screenshot on a computer. To post your log, select the “Webcam Photo Taken” log type and attach your captured webcam image. Only logs with a screenshot from the webcam feed are acceptable. Logs with photos taken at the location can be deleted by the cache owner.
  11. Webcams are the most abused type around. So many people claim a "find" when the webcam isn't working.
  12. In two years, I've gotten over 100 caches in a 4 week span, twice. Both of those times were when I went to GeoWoodstock.
  13. Wait... you need to be logged in to the app / web to use offline information?!?! I don't use the official app, but that seem like a poor design. The third party app I use doesn't need to be connected to the internet to access information stored within it.
  14. Geocaches icons that are stacked on top of each other on the map. I can hover over a cache icon and tell there are more than one cache listed, but since they use the exact same coordinates, I can only select the top one.
  15. I'm thinking the conversation went like... "hey, something is severely wrong with the server. You know that maintenance we wanted to schedule?, Lets schedule it now."
  16. Learn a little patience. Something is broken and the engineers are working on it. It happens.
  17. Um... to get all the souvenirs, an individual needs to get anywhere from 34 to 100 caches? In 14 days? Edit to add: Apparently I can't count how many days are in a week
  18. But yet in the main Search function, you can filter on United States and get all 1 million caches.
  19. Looks like when trying to send multiple cache links in one message, it formats both links to point to the same cache.
  20. So on an even MORE technical note, you don't receive a signal from a GPS, rather you would receive it from a GPSs(atellite). For the wordy folks out there, you shouldn't say "I used my GPS..." since the [my] implies you have a private system. However, you can say "I used the GPS..." because that implies you used the public system. I tend not to care and can extrapolate what people mean in their logs.
  21. With modern technology, "attending" a meeting has taken on new meaning since geocaching started. I have participated in several company meetings via VoIP or Skype or GoTo Meeting or various other means. I didn't have to physically at the meeting / event site in order to participate in the various agenda points. While I wouldn't advocate for a virtual event, its not that far fetched of an idea. And with virtual reality becoming more mainstream, its just a small jump to having a projected image of yourself at an event.
  22. Mother Nature... when she either burns up caches or buries them under feet of snow.
  23. But you need a PC, which the OP stated they didn't have.
  24. I'm a Co-CO of a night cache that uses UV paint as part of the hunt. This isn't the standard yellow paint, but rather colored florescent paint. This is not the same as glow in the dark paint. 1) Maintenance...how often do you need to re-apply the UV paint? I have read that direct sunlight will wear out the UV paint quicker. So far in two years we've never had to touch up the paint. I did a maintenance run a couple of months ago and the paint still pops, especially the orange pigment, when hit with a UV light. 2) To read the UV paint (using UV flashlight) do you need full darkness (night) or can it be read during daylight in shaded areas (i.e. UV paint on a rock under a shaded tree – during the day). They way this is set up, you need it to be pretty dark. Dusk is ok, but you won't be able to pick up the right arrows at high noon, even on a cloudy day. 3) How much will the UV element reduce cache traffic? Not all cachers have UV flashlights so this will deter some from even attempting the cache. Hard to say. They fact this is a night cache already reduces the traffic. 4) If you are a CO to a UV cache...would you do it again? Yes, I'd do it again. We've gotten some very positive feedback for having something different.
