  1.

It's not that hard to make announcements. Of course - the announcements forum would ONLY tell people who read the forums - like I said, the methods are really lacking.

:o Announcing an OT forum to those that don't read the forums in the first place seems sort of silly doesn't it? B)

The OT forums was created last night and from what I've seen it's pretty clear that most of the 'forum folks' around here know about it and it has been less than 24 hours so far.

Word gets around quick on these things.

  2. This is a great sport/hobby that virtually anyone can participate in for relatively free. I have spent a ton of money on geocaching in terms of clothes (boots, gc.c gear, MiGO gear), software, hardware (GPSr's) backpacks, PDA's etc. That's the great thing, you can spend as much or as little as you like.

So I would like to know how much money people estimate they have spent since they started geocaching.

I also like the time spent being involved in some sort of geocaching activity each week whether its caching, or time spent online or preparing caches.

How about, if there are local geocaching groups in peoples areas and if they belong to them.

  3. He was talking about logging in, we were already logged in. If im wrong then im officially saying im sorry B) .

I hope he accepts your apology then.

The thing is, if you don't log in properly you will get "dropped" even after being logged in so it's a matter of logging correctly by selecting "remember me" so you shouldn't have to re-login.

    Hope that helps.

  4. Not to be rude or anything mtn_man this topic is about how we get dropped or booted of the thing and have to login again.

Heh, I thought we covered sitting back and reading before posting in the other thread.

You may want to re-read mtn_man's post as it's a valid suggestion as to why folks may be getting "dropped"

Now say you're sorry to him. B)

  5. Thats fine you can put a cache on your grave but you shoudl'nt insult the departed by putting a cache near people have been dead for along time.

    An expert already aye?

May I suggest more reading and less posting....

It helps to read up first and get the lay of the land before jumping in head first.

Just some unsolicited advice for ya.

  6. I can log off the internet, turn off my computer, not be in the forums for days ( B) ), and whenever I come back, I am already logged in. I am never logged out.

I eat, sleep and drink in here.

    Same here, no problems.

I used to have a similar problem a while back and it wasn't a cookie issue as far as I know because I made sure that they were set to "allow" for this site and all that fun stuff but I would still be logged out periodically. I don't remember what fixed that, it could have been a format/reinstall but don't remember.

  7. Who's the forum moderator for the supper secret Approver Forum? Do approvers get banned for crumby postings?

I run the show there and keep everyone in line. As far as the bannings, yep, we like to practice banning each other from the forums.

Heh, you want to talk about warn meters.

  8. Yes, the ability to delete and edit stupid chicken postings is definitely a perk.  And one which I intend to continue abusing.

But that's in your capacity as forum moderator, not in your capacity as cache approver.

Am I correct in making a separation between those two duties? Are all approvers also moderators, and vice versa?

They are separate as some approvers didn't want mod duties and for good reason.

All moderators are approvers, well it started out that way but I think it has changed a bit but could be wrong. Its hard to keep track.

The reason for that is because Groundspeak wanted people they could trust and they already trusted us as approvers so it made it an easy decision.
