  1. Announcing an OT forum to those that don't read the forums in the first place seems sort of silly doesn't it? The OT forums was created last night and from what I've seen it's pretty clear that most of the 'forum folks' around here know about it and it has been less than 24 hours so far. Word gets around quick on these things.
  2. Nice post and I agree with what you've typed. I think the second suggestion would be the best way to execute a system that can work for the growing needs of the community at large.
  3. Thanks for the link Septic Tank, I was going to suggest like that article does to start a Yahoo group and take it from there.
  4. Here is the Sig Item Database for Michigan, lots of great ideas in here.
  5. This is a great sport/hobby that virtually anyone can participate in for relatively free. I have spent a ton of money on geocaching in terms of clothes (boots, gc.c gear, MiGO gear), software, hardware (GPSr's) backpacks, PDA's etc. That's the great thing, you can spend as much or as little as you like. So I would like to know how much money people estimate they have spent since they started geocaching. I also like the time spent being involved in some sort of geocaching activity each week whether its caching, or time spent online or preparing caches. How about, if there are local geocaching groups in peoples areas and if they belong to them.
  6. I found somebodies dog at a cache once. Good thing I had some rope in my pack so that I could leash him up and take him to the DNR, They've seen that dog before as I guess he gets out often and roams the park.
  7. Oh and you can even read what Markwell himself had to say about the whole thing.
  8. Since we are talking about Markwelling and how it's being used I will markwell you all to this thread started by a genius way back when. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...topic=49936&hl=
  9. umc The Man, the Myth, the legend.................................
  10. I really like that CITO sticker. Looks like I'll need to make an order soon. thanks for the update.
  11. Haha, trippy is my boy, I'll have to let him know he's being talked about. His thing is "saving geocaching, one golf ball at a time" Cracks me up.
  12. I hope he accepts your apology then. The thing is, if you don't log in properly you will get "dropped" even after being logged in so it's a matter of logging correctly by selecting "remember me" so you shouldn't have to re-login. Hope that helps.
  13. Heh, I thought we covered sitting back and reading before posting in the other thread. You may want to re-read mtn_man's post as it's a valid suggestion as to why folks may be getting "dropped" Now say you're sorry to him.
  14. An expert already aye? May I suggest more reading and less posting.... It helps to read up first and get the lay of the land before jumping in head first. Just some unsolicited advice for ya.
  15. Same here, no problems. I used to have a similar problem a while back and it wasn't a cookie issue as far as I know because I made sure that they were set to "allow" for this site and all that fun stuff but I would still be logged out periodically. I don't remember what fixed that, it could have been a format/reinstall but don't remember.
  16. The title doesn't bother me but it will someone and if your approver approves the cache they may get an ear full complaining about the name so it puts them in a tough spot whether they think it's fine or not. JMHO
  17. These and varying forms of them are very popular around here. They're great trade items.
  18. Very interesting, it would be cool to drop one in a cooler or anywhere and then be able to track it yourself or to keep track of someone else.
  19. I would start him out with a yellow etrex or a Geko as they're cheaper and great for learning the basics. Try Ebay as you'll be able to find them at a good price.
  20. I run the show there and keep everyone in line. As far as the bannings, yep, we like to practice banning each other from the forums. Heh, you want to talk about warn meters.
  21. Stu who? Depends on the area as some require a permit which usually takes more time but other than that it can be rather quick. Seconds.
  22. But that's in your capacity as forum moderator, not in your capacity as cache approver. Am I correct in making a separation between those two duties? Are all approvers also moderators, and vice versa? They are separate as some approvers didn't want mod duties and for good reason. All moderators are approvers, well it started out that way but I think it has changed a bit but could be wrong. Its hard to keep track. The reason for that is because Groundspeak wanted people they could trust and they already trusted us as approvers so it made it an easy decision.
