  1. If I see someone in my area log a find on their own cache I send them a friendly email letting them know that it's not a common practice and is frowned upon by some. If they are aware of that then fine, I don't really care how others play the game. On another note. I've placed a cache with someone in the past and both of our names were/are on the cache but it's under my friends account. The only reason I logged it as a find was because I didn't want it showing up on my cache pages forever. Granted the caches I hide show up on my cache pages but they show up with the word "Mine" next to it so it's a little different than one that even though it has my name on it, it doesn't show up as "Mine" since it's not under my account. Did that make any sense?
  2. Make it waterproof and PPC, then we're talking.
  3. That technology is here but in its infancy. I tried a service on my Nextel and it was horrible but I had to at least try it and see what it was about. I agree that one day when it is perfected a bit it will be more common place.
  4. I think it's safe to say that the guidelines are just that, guidelines. It's up to every geocacher that places a cache to check what the local rules/guidelines are in his or her area and follow those. gc.c has a good set of general guidelines but if you dig deeper in your area you may find out that there are additional guidelines that need to be followed.
  5. How about making it a stage in a multi cache instead of a micro?
  6. I also collect the dirty golf balls. I clean the ones that look playable and stamp them with my borg logo, put them in a plastic bubble, and give them a designation. They then get sent back out in the world as my sig item. I hate dirty golf balls in caches. I used to trade them out just to get them out. Then I had a pile of them stored up so I made them my sig item. I figure it makes them more tradeable and welcome in a cache. (check out my sig.) I usually go behind trippy and pull his sig items out of caches and toss them in the garbage where they belong. You can put hair and makeup on a pig but it's still a pig.
  7. The last thing I want to do is agree with Mopar but that is some good advise. Back when I started geocaching I found a few caches and wanted to place one right away. I was strongly encouraged to find more first which I did and it helped. My plan for placing my first cache didn't change much but I think it was enhanced because I found more caches first. That cache has been in place since October 2002 without incident so I think finding several others first has something to do with that.
  8. you could have used your other thread instead of starting a new one. Anyway, again, check the guidelines for the do's and don'ts of what to put in the cache. I usually like putting in things that I like finding so no junk. Eventually, even though you put nice things in your caches it seems that they degrade to junk but making sure to properly maintain the cache you can pull out the garbage and replace it with nice new fresh items. So, no food, soap, candles, perfumes, oils, anything that has a scent because animals are attracted to that and will tear the cache apart. No guns, knives, ammo, etc. Nothing that can be dangerous in any way shape or form to cachers/kids.
  9. Hey, like Mopar said, make sure you read and follow the guidelines before placing that cache. It will help make sure that it gets approved.
  10. My personal favorite is the ammo can because they are waterproof and very durable. Check with the guidelines in your area or park to make sure of what you can and can't use as some places require clear (see through) containers for caches.

    Pip's Party

11:25pm EST. Finishing up the current beer I'm working on and heading to bed. Trippy is staying the night at my place and SixTen is meeting us here at 6am in the morning. From there we have to make two stops, diesel, and Micky D's, then on to pick up victorymike and we'll be on our way. We should be there around 8:30 9am your time so wait for us long haul travelers. Looking foward to it. copy and pasting on the event page too.
  12. Hahaha, I just got my 76cs today and that is one thing I checked before buying it between the 60 and 76 series is the feeling. I like the feel of the 76 in my hand a lot better than the 60.
  13. So, have you gotten the hang of it yet? Actually, your postings seem to have slowed a bit lately, and I thought you might enjoy reading some of this "old" stuff. Gotten the hang of it, heck no. I was surprised to come in here and see that thread at the top. Thanks for the reminder that this thread exists. I'll go through it and see how silly things were waaaaaaaaaaay back then. The postings slowed, the cachings slowed and the work has been busy. I've still been around and very much involved but not as much as I'd like on the other things. Just recently I've hit a bunch of caches and plan on continuing that. Actually I have a cache hide in the works, so be looking for that soon.

Sure, just make it clear on the page that it will be updated. The date if for sure and that's the important thing, you can figure the rest as you go.

    Pip's Party

Cached with SixTen today and talked to trippy on the phone tonight and I should be able to be in too. Besides someone is going to have to keep an eye on this crowd. Now about that event page. It would make things a lot easier to make an event out of this and it doesn't cost a thing. That way it would be easier to keep track on who is coming and who isn't along with what the days activities will consist of.
  16. I know how it is. I have been very much involved in geocaching but haven't actually done any serious caching in a long time until last week when I started hitting them again on a somewhat regular basis. It's pretty cool because I have that "just found out about geocaching" feeling again and am loving getting out there. I even have a new cache in the works that I hope to be placing in the next week or so.

    Help Me Please

Got it thanks. There are some pretty good suggestions here so far, make sure to let us know if you have any specific questions. You aren't from Michigan are you? Just asking because of the Wings avatar. If so come on over to our local group MiGO @ http://www.mi-geocaching.org

You've been a member since July of 2002 and you don't know how to geocache yet? I don't get it.
  19. No. most people are aware of the proximity of other caches. You'd be surprised.
  20. Brilliant. even better idea.
  21. The photos are to be brought by the finder so the cache is really without a logbook before the hider gets there (hopefully with one). If the pictures were left in there by the hider and said to be used as a logbook then fine but that's not how I understood the post. The best thing would be to do both, have a regular logbook and suggest your photo idea for logs also.
  22. Make sure to have a regular log book and make it a theme cache for the pictures instead of a requirement. The second part is a suggestion, but you will need a logbook.
  23. I don't think virtuals are considered unwanted trash. Really it's a first come first serve thing even though not too many virtuals are approved anymore and yet it is a common problem.
  24. Lull? For sure. I found just over 300 caches my first year and haven't done much since. I mean I've been busy doing caching related stuff but just not getting out to hit caches like I used to. I've done very few this past year but have gotten that urge again recently and hit a couple yesterday and 4 today with plans to do a couple tomorrow. Just like I used to do, a few a day. I think if it wasn't for the community of geocahers I probably would have stopped caching long ago.
  25. I can see how I've been overlooked or viewed as not being around. The truth is that I've been very busy with work but I'm still very active in the MiGO forums and with MiGO as SixTen mentioned. I'm still around here but tend to lurk more than I used to. Anyway, I agree with most of the names mentioned above but I don't think I've seen 'brdad' mentioned. I know he's always in cj's chat but not on the forums anymore, that goes for danny also.
