  1. Maybe we need a new kind of moderator!

Someone that scans topics for repetitive inquiries, and cuts and pastes replies. Then closes the topic. Short direct, preventing the unnesessary hijacking.

    No Hijacking!

    You're hired!!!!! :D

This is certainly a full time job. We need to discuss salary and benefits. :D

Wonderful, since you're interested and since it would be such an undertaking I say we pay you 20% more than everyone else!!

Just for starters though, it can go up from there.

  2. Markwelling is rude, especially to newbees.

Markwelling is not rude, nor is Markwell for that matter. Markwelling can be done in a rude way, sure but when done in the proper fashion like Markwell does it's a very helpful thing.

Saying "go read this thread stupid, it's been discussed before" would be an example of rude Markwelling.

Saying "hey, you'll probably get some different views on that in the thread you created but if you want to see what others have said in the past about this topic you can check out these links. The other benefit is that you won't have to wait to get a lot of replies because those threads already have them. Oh and by the way, on the same topic, I see you're new here and maybe you didn't notice the search button on the top right of the page, that can save you some time too but I agree it's always nice to get fresh perspectives."

You can see the difference and one is easier than the other which is why you probably see more of the rude form than the other. A true "Markwell" would follow my second example.

  3. The bottom line is that the same questions will always be asked over and over and over again, there is no getting around that nor does there need to be. Repetitive questions don't hurt anyone and if you can't answer it in a polite honest way then don't, just stay out of it. Don't be rude and point out how it's been discussed already, don't be rude and tell someone to use the search feature, there is no reason for that behavior. If it irritates you that someone is asking a question that someone just asked the day prior then step away from the computer, get outside because there are more important things you should be worrying about.

These forums move very fast and unless you're sitting here reading every thread 24/7 you'll miss something, it's bound to happen and that's ok. Ask away and if someone is rude tell them to stick it. :D

  4. I would prefer that it be through email. In the alternative, maybe a single thread for the purpose of reporting problems in the Garage Sale forum with personal attacks pretty heavily moderated. I don't particularly care to see them here. At the same time I am always capable of ignoring the threads. So I guess it doesn't matter that much to me. My main concern is if there became many such threads it would make our forum look more like a personal complaint forum than a geocaching forum.

I agree with this and it's the personal attacks that got the other two threads locked and will get any thread locked for that matter. I think it's important for people to know of problems out there but at the same time the essence of letting one know of a problem they had with another cacher pretty much damages that persons character and because of that I think a flame fest would be inevitable as nobody likes to have their character damaged, especially in public.

The idea of a thread in the garage sale forum would be the best approach but I think it would degrade to personal attacks pretty quickly regardless. My best advice is to deal with people you know or trust from others experience and even at that you'll be taking a chance. Outside of that, take it to ebay and make your deal there, these forums are not setup for such a thing.

  5. I just checked the off topic forum for the first time in months and can say that it doesn't look like anything has changed so you're not missing much. I do encourage you to become a premium member though because there are a lot of other added benefits.

  6. I do not see this thread going any where positive.

Personal disagreements between cachers should stay out of the forums. Take it private, please.

    Right'O.

I've seen that y'all tried handling this in private but that didn't work out so well so you wanted to let everyone know. Now we all know and as mentioned in the quote, the forums are no place for this so take it back to the pm's or email please.

  7. Personally I think it would be best if we all just let it go. I don't care what someone wants to talk about, geocaching or not, keep it clean and be polite to one another and all will be well.

And for heck's sake, if you don't like a thread then don't read it, stay out of it and quit posting about how much you don't like it. Go read threads that are on topic for you and that are of interest. There is nothing worse than someone crying about how they don't like a thread for whatever reason and constantly posting in that thread about it.

  8. Haha, this is awesome, I haven't been here in a while but am alerted to this great thread from a "report this post button" thing to see what the reported post was so I went to the first post to see what that was and read a couple here and there. After all of that I conclude that this great thread serves no purpose and should be closed so that's what I'm going to do. Man what a great day, get outside and enjoy the nice weather, I'm getting ready to go grill. Woooo Hoooo.
