Rock on! I wish I could come across one of those in a cache around here.

I'm a pilot, and I can tell you for certain, that cell phones and CD players have absolutely NO effect on any aircraft avionics. IT IS A BIG LIE! The airlines get big bucks from the folks who installed phones in their planes, and they don't want to lose the profit that they generate, so they scare the public about "All electronic devices." It just isn't true. Now they are telling us we can't use a GPSr! A GPSr is a recieve only radio that is completely innocuous! What are they afraid of? I think they have too much control over what I do when I'm PAYING to be on one of their planes. C'mon folks we should stand up for the rights we have left, join together as a group, and make our voices known. We are not criminals, and we should stop letting the airlines tell us what we can and can't do. They already do too much of that as it is. Blue skies! SkydiverDman If at first you don't succeed, SKYDIVING NOT FOR YOU! $1/minute? Last flight I was on (Delta, about a month ago) it was a $3.99 connnection fee and $3.99/minute....which is just crazy, I can't imagine anything I need to talk about that is that important. Also as far as GPSr use, they allowed me to use it, but I got to thinking about the flights where they tell you that it's not allowed, or having to turn it off during takeoff/landing. Don't the pilots use GPSr's in the cockpit? Granted they're nothing like the comparatively cheap $200 handheld unit I have, but it's the same technology.
  4. I don't remember this being the post that I read about putting trash bags in film canisters, but this was the only thread I could find about it now. It works great because they take up little room, you don't have to worry about them getting snagged on anything in your backpack, and there's no problem fitting them in your pocket. There's no doubt that I'm going to continue to take trash bags like this with me, because it's convenient for me, and makes for something to drop in a cache where one notices a lot of trash.
  5. I went out today to do a little maintence on a cache I placed, and to add a few items. One thing I was going to add were some film canisters with trash bags inside (it's been discussed on here before, and I liked the idea) so people could trash out if they wanted. Well I forgot to put them in there, so I trashed out myself. This area is on a decent sized resevoir, that sees a lot of boat and land fisherpeople during the summer. So I ended up trashing out 5 bags of beer bottles, pop/beer cans, old bait containers, balls of fishing line...etc. Which was reward enough in itself. There's still probably 2-3 more bags worth of trash, but I ran out of time, and trash bags. While I was picking up trash, I ended up finding about 7 bobbers, and 3 lures, all of which were in great shape! This is perfect for me, because I'm a fisherperson myself...so that's probably about $10-$15 I don't have to spend on gear next year. Just wanted to post this here and show everyone that you can get something more than just the warm fuzzy feeling of doing something good when you cache in-trash out. As they say one man's junk....is another man's treasure.

This stuff is very clear and introduces very little glare. Apply it with a light misting of water and you'll get great protection with no bubbles. I like it so much, I threw out my Belkin covers. Jeepster - We did not inherit the land from our parents; we are borrowing it from our children. I just bought some of the screen protectors for my Palm IIIc from there. I only got them a couple days ago, so I don't have much experience with them. However, my inital impression is that they are great. I did a poor job putting it on, but it's still very clear, and at the same time seems to be very thick as well. I'm probably going to be ordering some soon for my GPS II+ also.

  8. quote:Originally posted by Markwell:I'll take special credit on this one, though. I thought that the bug in question was the FUNNIEST thing I had seen in many days. I was immediately trying to come up with a way of doing the same exact thing to a high school buddy of mine. So I put the bug on my watch list, and have been laughing all the while. I still am working on a way to get my friend... http://www.markwell.us http://www.chicagogeocaching.com That's funny because after I saw it, I started thinking the same thing....FedEx, beware.

Just start several new "markwells" a day and then there wouldn't be anyone starting threads that have already been done....except for you of course.

Went in a nearby surplus store to pick up one of these today and it was marked “$14.88” I left! Another store that’s a little further away sells them for under $7, and I know there are places on the net that sell them for around $5. Just wondering what the norm is for finding them locally in stores, and the highest you have seen them marked. Last time I bought on from the Army/Navy Surplus store nearby it cost me $9.51 out the door including taxes.
  11. quote:Originally posted by Mr. 0:I just picked up a Palm IIIc from http://buy.returnbuy.com for $59.99. For that model (yeah it's a little older) that was the best price I could find. It had 8megs memory, color screen, USB cradle, etc. It is a factory refurb, and I haven't received it yet (just bought it Saturday...so should be here Tues or Wed, I hope), but when I do I'll let you know what I think about it. Well I got the IIIc on Wednesday and I signed up for my charter membership, and d/led the pocket queries. My inital impressions after using is this weekend is....First off the IIIc is a little hard to read in bright light, but it didn't pose enough of a problem that I would stop using it for caching and so far that's my only complaint. The pocket queries are great, it beats lugging around my 3 ring binder with all the printed pages. I can just open up the palm and view all the info there, plus I can just open up the "memo" feature to jot down anything that I want to remember for my logs. Also, before I would only print out the caches I planned to visit that day....so if I had a good day and was left with some daylight and no caches in my list, I was pretty much done for the day because I would have to go home and print off some more. With the having them on the palm, I can have a much larger list. Now if I hit all the caches I planned, I can stay out and grab more, if I want. Reading some of the other posts in here, the PPC is pretty cool, but if you're not going to use any of the other features of it, then I wouldn't think it would be worth it. Right now I've got caches loaded on here several different ways, plus several games and other applications to keep my busy when I'm bored otherwise. I don't have much experience with the IIIc or any PDA for that matter, but my initial impressions are pretty good with this. And I think that the price, $59.99, was pretty decent for what I got. (Color screen, 8megs, etc...just no software except for the OS...but everything that came with it originally, like the applications on the palm and the desktop software, I d/led for free from the Palm website)
  12. quote:Originally posted by Planet: Did you try this site, too?: http://doody36.home.attbi.com/liberty.htm oops, I was too busy cursing you and forgot to try it. But I just did, and there's another distraction for me. I'm going to be too busy with my computer addictions to go caching.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Planet:Well, Here's another fun waste of time: http://doody36.home.attbi.com/liberty.htm Cache you later, Planet http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/contrib/edoom/spacecraft.gif Dang you for bringing this thread back from the dead. I had finally let go of my "launch your own satellite" addiction....but now I'm hooked again.

  15. I must have missed that section....Guess I was too excited to take a look at the Members only caches and get those pocket queries. I'll send a message over there when I want to change it. Thanks, Mr. Snazz...I don't even feel insulted, you feeling ok today?
  16. I signed up for the $3/month thing...to try it out....I will probably want to go with the $30/yr option later to make sure and keep my support there year after year. Anyhow, how do I stop it from billing me $3/mo when I want to do that?
  17. quote:Originally posted by welch: quote:Originally posted by Mr. 0:You're right though...I didn't really think about that when I posted. I guess I underestimate the power of stupid people sometimes.
  18. Yeah, you're right 3 ring binders are "outdated". But it works for me, mainly because I don't spend a lot of time on the computer at home, and since I only have about 30 finds, right now it's not worth setting up any kind of database right now.
  19. Here's an interesting one in Columbus OH. Based On A True Story As for finding it w/o a signal. In this cache the coordinates lead to the parking lot, from there one must use the hints to locate it.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Stunod:If you put the decal on the outdide of the rear window, wouldn't it read backwards?? 21. quote:Originally posted by Rubbertoe:Umm, and how long do you think that would last on the _outside_ of his window? You're right though...I didn't really think about that when I posted. Although how many people would want a geocaching.com decal if they didn't know what it was?
  22. Depending on how deep the tint is, I would imagine that it would keep the "banner" from being easily read. I don't have one of the banners yet, but you should be able to stick it on the outside of the window to eliminate any problems.
  23. I just picked up a Palm IIIc from Returnbuy.com for $59.99. For that model (yeah it's a little older) that was the best price I could find. 24. I keep track of everything in a 3 ring binder, that I have sectioned off in 3 sections. I always print out the cache pages before I go find them, and stick 'em in a plastic sheet protector. When I get to the cache I'll do my trading, sign the log, and write and pertant notes on the page I printed, such as date, time, and anything I don't want to forget to include in my online log. I keep all my finds in there in "chronological" order. The pages that I print of that I'm planning to do that day go in the section just behind my finds, and anything that I didn't find or didn't get to that day, I note on there as such and move them to the last section.
