  1. I had my GPS about 3 years before I discovered Geocaching. I used it for driving mostly. It was really just another toy to have. I never grew tired of it (Garmin GPS II+) but it just stopped acquiring satellites. This first happened about a year before I discovered Geocaching. I dug it out, as soon as I discovered this site, and ordered an amplified antenna for it. From then it worked ok for a few more months, but it would still have times where it would refuse to acquire satellites. I had ordered a Magellan Meridian Green for my brother for Christmas a couple years ago, and ended up canceling the order and getting the GPS for him elsewhere. The first place eventually fulfilled my order anyhow....so I decided to keep it, and sold the II+ on E-bay.
  2. 26 here....hmmm not able to think of any witty commentary, so I'll just leave it as is.

  4. All you have to do is click your mouse. That'll put one up there. To get any kind of effective orbit you have to drag the mouse a little.
  5. Three for me Somethin' In The Water Angels In The Outfield Everybody Loves Raymond
  6. It's actually National Trail Raceway outside Kirkersville (about 20 mi E of Columbus). Although I've been to Norwalk quite a few times. My best time is 17.166, nothing special at all, it's mostly my goal just to not be the slowest car there on any given day. But that's about all you can expect from a stock 4,000lb car with a V6. I just do it for fun. But I'm hoping to get myself into a 'Stang in the near future to race a little more competitively. To keep this on Geocaching topic, I wonder how many caches there are near various motorsport venues.
  7. This is mine. '96 Ford T-bird. 109,xxx miles as of my drive home today. Bought it in April 2000 w/ 21k miles on it....traded in a '92 T-bird for it that had 168,921 miles on it. This pic was taken one day when I was enjoying another one of my hobbies, drag racing. As you can guess the 88K miles I've put on it in not quite 4 years have not been easy.
  8. Actually as Geocachers we all have the following separation from Kevin Bacon. You = geocacher = Wil Wheaton = movie "She's Having A Baby" = Kevin Bacon It's a stretch, I know, but it works.
  9. I'm almost embarassed to admit this. I came up with 67%. I moved a few months ago, about 50 miles north of where I was primarily caching. I haven't had much time to find caches (not to mention it's cache bare around here) since I moved to the new digs. So my numbers would be slightly higher if I were using my old home coordinates, I think. Edit: My 100th cache is 29.7mi away.
  10. Maybe that's it..I wasn't thinking about dried meats....just the stuff one usually finds in the lunchmeat section at the local grocery. I don't know. After reading this I got to thinking about how it would be nice to have some variety over my normal granola bars and H20
  11. If you look at the top of the page here in the forums, right beside the Groundspeak name is a little dude. That's who is being named in this thread. Anyone else notice how old this thread is? It's funny when things like this get resurrected...ok well maybe I'm the only one who thinks it's funny. Back on topic. Of the names mentioned thus far, I like C. Ache. It serves a dual purpose. There's obviously the "cache" thing, and also I just found it amusing the "last name" would be "Ache". I mean we all know what it's like after being out on a day of caching...all the cuts, bruises, etc.
  12. So all this talk about cheese and meats on the trail, I have to ask. Maybe I was told wrong as a kid, or just assumed because it's all always refrigerated. But is there any problem with spoilage if you have it in your pack for say 9-10 hours during the summer?
  13. I just hit the 5 listed for Columbus, Ohio, and it looks like the hints were listed by the wrong coords for a few of them, and the coords may have been wrong for one of them as it put me in the front yard of someone's house. I sent an e-mail off to see if the info is incorrect. Just wanted to say that so y'all might keep that in mind as you're out there hunting the locations. There may be some mistakes, like Imajika said.
  14. This is me at He Said on 8/29/02. My first FTF and first night cache. I wasn't really expecting the pic to be taken right at that second.
  15. In one cache I placed, I did leave FTF prizes. I made it clear on the cache page that no trading for the FTF prize was required. For me personally if something was indicated as an FTF prize, then it wouldn't be required to trade...unless otherwise stated. Also along the same line, just because there is some good swag to start off with, doesn't mean it's a FTF prize. I've seen logs where the FTF took something like say a DVD or something and left nothing. I have to think they assumed it was an FTF prize, even though the owner did not state that it was on the page.

What I really ment was the name central ohio but really for all of ohio Gotcha. Like I said, the forums are hosted by the COG, but lots o' people post there. We moderators don't tend to moderate anything w/in reason, so there are events, cache discussion, and all sorts of talk about stuff from all over the state.

Well, yes and no. I mean the COG runs the forums, but a bunch of folks from all over Ohio signed up. Since we tend to get way off topic on about everything, there was no reason to try to restrict it to just Central Ohio. If you're talking about how there is more there once you sign up...that was just to stop people from coming on and posting stuff as "guest". We saw that it could potentially lead to problems. If someone wanted to spam the board or something.
  18. It took me roughly 5 min to get it. But I've got puzzles on the brain due to a local cacher here in Columbus, Oh having placed a couple of puzzle caches recently. Here are the links to those puzzles. The Hex Regz Fan III

COG is Central Ohio, yes, but mostly only in name. If you went over there, and signed up you'd see there is discussion about everything. I'm not sure if you've been there, but if you haven't signed up, you can only see about 1/3 of the forums/topics there. We have several very active members from Cincy, Toledoish, Cleveland, Akron, Dayton....everywhere in Ohio, really. See the COG is "Central Ohio Geocachers", that's our group. However the forums we use/host don't deal only with Central Ohio.

Trippy, I agree with you about that. I mean I think that we could benefit from a statewide organization. However I don't think we're ready to make that step yet. Like I've said before some of us from the COG have talked about it, and we see it as something to think about for a little bit down the road. Right now we're still working hard to get Central Ohio more involved. For example the last CITO we did, there were 3 of us there. There are a lot of folks out there, but we just can't get them to be concerned or involved locally. In my opinion it'll be easier to get folks, especially newer folks involved, if we can get them involved locally first. That way they can get to know other cachers from the immediate area, and not be overwhelmed trying to jump into all of the varying issues, events, discussion, etc from all over the state. Then maybe next year or something, we can begin a transition into a state wide group. On top of that, I think that we would actually need to do a little planning first. I think it would be a little foolish just jumping into this head long before testing the waters. I mean this is something that has really just come up, to my knowledge, with in the last couple of months. I think that we would want to get all of the groups together and discuss it at length before just going off and deciding to create a state wide group. So even if we were ready to start a state wide organization, it would be a little while working out the details. Keep in mind, this is just my opinion and it really doesn't mean anything anyhow.
  21. Well the nearest city that shows up on the list for me would be Columbus Ohio. It ranked in at #6 on the most dangerous list for cities of 500,000 or more population. I'm not sure when the list was compiled but I wouldn't be surprised if it got bumped up a spot or two what with our random highway sniper. Far as I know there is very little they know about this person, and they're not making much progress on figuring it out. All the while, the person is still shooting cars on the highway.
  22. AL, I seem to be getting the same thing. It saying you're online when you're not. I'm messing with it though. It may not update your status instantly.

I think you're right. However I personally am not totally closed to the idea. I know it probably seems that way, but I guess I just wanted to clarify. I can't speak for anyone but myself when I say this, but I think that an All Ohio group will happen one day, but I don't think it's something we're ready for in the near future. Kinda like Xenophon10k said in another thread, there really isn't an issue right now that requires something like this. On the other hand, as Trippy said in that same thread, having a state wide group has really helped bring Geocachers together in MI. So it's not all about parks and whatnot. It would be nice to have something going BEFORE there becomes an issue with a group such as the ODNR also. I guess what I'm looking at is, with the COG, we've only really been around since Feb '03. Most of that time it was just an informal group anyhow, more of a name than anything. We then got a Yahoo user group that was started by WVAbackpacker, and finally Bjorn74 was kind enough to do all the work, and start the forums we have now. So we are still in our infancy and just starting to get organized. I think that things are going very smoothly now, however it would be nice to get past some of the growing pains that are sure to come before we have to suddenly deal with those issues on a statewide level. I also wanted to let you know that I haven't been out to get you or anything, as it may seem like that, since I have been responding negatively to all of your posts about a state wide group. I also see you've been catching some flak around the forums here lately. That's not what I was trying to do, I just have a different opinion than you do, and wanted to state it. So please don't think that I'm only here to jump down your throat. That's not at all what I'm intending to do. Finally, ALgeocacher, and anyone else for that matter, I just wanted to invite ya on over to the COG forums, if you're interested. Right now we do have folks from around the state there all participating in the discussion. So we're not going to turn you away just because you don't happen to live in or around Columbus. http://www.cogeocaching.org
  24. The NEOgeo folks did something similar to that too....Hmmmm I'll keep digging to see if I can find the link. A couple of folks from down here in Central Ohio took a trip up there. I guess it was a mix of virtuals and regular caches with all of the clues being in crossword puzzle form. Right now we over at the COG are planning something similar in March. Link to the posting on here. And a link to one of the posts over at COGeocaching.com
