  1. I deleted the old app and reinstalled 8.15. It is working fine. As always, thanks for the support.
  2. You are correct. I might consider purchasing coins if they were manufactured outside China. They are hard to find though.
  3. Where are the coins sourced that you are selling? Do you have any non-Chinese made coins?
  4. I found a station mark toppled over today. The monument is on private property and next to a rural driveway. It was originally set flush to the ground but is now fully exposed and on its side (see pic). Does anyone really use these anymore? Will the owner really get fined or go to jail if their lawn mower bumps into or ‘disturbs’ the mark? What if their cousin from Canada comes to visit, cuts the driveway short with their travel trailer, and runs over the monument; Federal prison? If I were the home owner I would really consider removing the BM. Is there a legal remedy or governing management organization who oversees these that can be called to fix it?
  5. When I am out hiking on poorly maintained public trails I will bring hand clippers to clip my way through. The clippers are part of my ‘bat belt’ and are stowed in a leather holster for quick access. If I see an invasive species (eg bamboo, Himalayan blackberry, scotch broom, ivy, etc.) I will not hesitate to lop, uproot, or generally try to kill it if I can. Killing invasive plants is improvement of the ‘natural environment’ and should be normal practice just like CITO.
  6. Once we actually get to GZ, my ‘crew’ generally has a ‘5 minute rule’. If the cache is not found after 5 we start checking the hints and previous logs in earnest. Then depending on how much we want the cache we may continue searching longer. We have spent up to 90 minutes at one setting. Some caches I have gone back to multiple times and spent cumulative hours searching. The important thing is having fun.
  7. Understood. If the list is not being updated regularly, and nobody seems to be asking for or using the classification info, GSA might consider simplifying what they are asking the volunteers to do and just drop the classifications. Incomplete, and possibly inaccurate, data is usually worse than no-data. Volunteers are limited resources and should focus on what people actually need and what is important. BTW – thank you for being a volunteer.
  8. I am working on a cache challenge http://coord.info/GC2J533 that requires logging one EC in each of the listed classifications. To count for the challenge the caches must be listed on the ‘earthcache listings’ page: http://rock.geosociety.org/earthcache/earthcache.aspx How are the EC listing classifications assigned to a cache? As an example, I have found GCZ8ZQ - Ape Cave http://coord.info/GCZ8ZQ which is a cave EC. You would think it would be listed in the ‘Cave/Karst Feature’ list but it is not. Is this because nobody has asked for it to be added to the list or is there some review process involved and this EC is failing some point? Who owns the list? How do I contact them? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
