  1. I do have a cache which is part set already on Hearsall Common. It's in place and registered, but I have been holding off submitting it while the roadworks, and the compound part way down the common have been being worked on. It may mean we clash for waypoints - mines a 2-part multi, avoiding the circus area. Feel free to contact me via the geocaching website to discuss.
  2. Read the cache description carefully. Read and act on what's there, not what you expect to be there.
  3. 2 x FTDNFs - where I've got to the final location, before the cache itself got there.
  4. ...And I thought it was Duck a la Blorenges. Drat - I should have emailed in my guess! Anyway - thanks for volunteering for this task. An excellent choice.
  5. In view of the recent discussion on the UK forum regarding reviewer policy http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=198133 you would be required to submit proof of permission to place a cache in a UK churchyard. As, in order to get such proof, you'll need to speak to the keeper of the churchyard, it would be easy to check the legality with them.

  7. I've just checked my LQ cache GC1669A. The link (behind an image) to the NWcaching website (ie an outside website) works perfectly. I've also just checked another cache of mine GCA9BC I adopted a while back. The internal link to the original setter (TheCat) works perfectly. So - 2/2 OK from here.
  8. I'd have thought so - most people who put out coins and bugs want to see them moving, and although the coin/bug is no longer acting as a draw to the cache, a) it confirms the cache is still there and it clearly wasn't working as a draw anyway if no one visits. I'd log it as a note - that way find figures aren't artifically inflated.
  9. A very quick look at the email domain suggests Australia A very quick look at the website at that domain suggests Melbourne in Australia.
  10. http://www.ukgeocachers.co.uk/ukmap.php does a nice looking map. You have to maintain the counts yourself. http://www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com/ does a variety of analysis which includes a map.
  11. Yeah, I see a bright side to this idea. I would never have another nano downloaded, and never spend my time hunting them. I most often find a nano used in a manner that indicates "spew" and blocking the placement of a real cache. Another resounding 'Yes' here - whether you like them or not, it makes sense to know what you might be looking for.
  12. I've been planning to do a couple of similar "Back to Basics" caches. If we can agree on a name, this could be a much preferable series to "Motorway Mayhem", "A road Anarchy", "Off the Rails", "Supermarket Sweep", etc, etc. No need to debate it - "Back To Basics" is fine, get it started and we'll all join in, I'll wager! Practice what you preach, people! OK. I'll be placing the first one at the weekend. "Back to Basics: A proper cache in Northampton". Suggested guidelines (not rules!): Size/type: Ammo can would be ideal; or a decent sized lunchbox; big is good - I've managed to pick up some catering sized Mayo tubs from the works canteen... Location: Somewhere nice! Not you're local litter-ridden back alley. Somewhere you'd be happy to stumble across. Ask yourself "Why would I want to bring somebody here?". If the answer is not obvious, find somewhere else. And a bit of a walk might be a good idea. I don't want to get run over while signing the log... I'll start a Bookmark list too. Baz. Here's one for the list - set in Warwickshire this afternoon GC1CA1K
  13. It's where an Australian washes his (or her) hands. ;-)
  14. I'm going to agree pretty much down the line here. I know people have been upset by the change in how Groundspeak have decided to operate, and I feel sorry for those people - I have been in a similar positions as a volunteer in another field. Those people most directly affected have acted with dignity, and have kept their involvement with the hobby. I would suggest that those of us who take part in the hobby, but put far less back into it, should do the same.
  15. Simple suggestion - give up the forums, rather than give up geocaching - which is what archiving caches, or registering them where no one reads them amount to.
  16. And coincidentally, one somewhere in the West Midlands that was muggled is now back today. It's now a conventional little box instead of a heap of manure.
  17. I see nothing that says that the reviews can't archive abandoned caches. At the moment, once a cache has had problems for a long time they issue a warning and then archive them - surelyt his will still apply, and provide a route for (eventual) replacement.
  18. Hello, and welcome, from another cacher based in Warwickshire (although technically, living in Coventry). As other people have said, there's not much in the way of group caching, but some of us do occasionally meet up in fields in the middle of the evening, especially when there's a nice juicy FTF to find. There are plenty of good caches scattered around the Leamington / Warwick area. If you're new to the area they're a good way to get to know some of the attractive places - if not you probably know some of the locations already, but won't know there are caches there. There are occasional pub get-togethers in the area. Keep an eye on the website and you should spot them.
  19. Not at all - each to their own. I'd prefer to see people enjoying caching rather than feeling that they are expected to set caches and do it carelessly or badly.
  20. FTF has nothing to do with when you log the cache. Being the first to sign the log does.
  21. ...and I see another circular, set by the same people has appeared very close by too. I reckon that my mum must have bribed them to set local caches so that I'll go and visit her. [Edited to remove typo]
  22. Ooh - what a shame that set wasn't around at Christmas, when I was visiting family in Stalham. There's an afternoon planned for when I'm next over that way. For those a bit more centrally located, can I suggest the Leighton-Linslade trail near Leighton Buzzard. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/gmnearest.a...mp;lng=-0.67562 I only managed to complete the dry half of the circle last Friday afternoon - but then I didn't start until quite late. From what I saw, they're a good mixture of cache types and styles, and I certainly intend to return for the other half of the set next time I'm in the area.
  23. Good to hear you're OK out there. If you get to the -istan part of the world, I've got a TB stuck in Helmand that could do with moving on ;-)
  24. When you Google TOMTOM repair, you get two companies who have paid to have advertisements placed at the top of the search. They're not 'main hits' they're 'paid for hits'. The pages of results that come back afterwards are the 'main hits'. Maybe this is somewhere where asking on the forums for peoples' experience at having equipment repaired would make more sense than Googling it? Google shows who have websites that conform to their definition of popular, the ads at the top show who is willing to pay to have their advertisement associated with the words you Googled.
  25. GC18HK7 Email received notifying it as published - 13 Jan - 11:14 Muggled before searching by three of us that day / evening. New cache placed better hidden 15 Jan Muggled before searching by three more of us that day / evening.
